I would love to be able to give you guys an all natural or organic sea sick remedy such as ginger, wrist bands or some magic plant, but the truth is all that stuff hardly works for those that are prone to motion sickness while boating. The only thing that has worked for people on my boat has been the active ingredient in Dramamine "Dimenhydrinate". Please comment below if you have a remedy that works very well for you.

One thing to avoid getting sick is to never lean over and face down while baiting a line or taking off a fish. Do it standing upright or you become sick almost instantly. Leaning down looking into a tackle box for too long will get you every time.

As an x padi instructor, a product called “trip tone” was sold exclusively in dive shops. Worked 100 percent. Formula was “sold?” To Walmart and is now sold under their generic brand for motion sickness . Seems to work as well as trip tone taken 1 hr before leaving dock without the side effects of bonine, which is the base of dramimi e.

Good Video, I have been Diving professionally for over 25 years all over FLA. I hate it when I get on board with a crew that claims they have never been seasick and act like its a shame if someone does. I generally will not use them in the future. I typically take newer divers out for their first handful of dives after getting certified and a good boat will wholeheartedly admit that they get seasick some times and that it is ok if they do as well. There is no shame in it and we can not control if and when we get sick. They do everything they can to help out their paying clients to mitigate the effects of motion sickness. I myself almost always get seasick and I don't care. I'm still gonna be out there diving and enjoying what the ocean provides me!

I cured my motion sickness by spending a lot of time on a boat while it was docked. That way if I felt it coming on I could quickly get off. After several repetitions of this you will find yourself not fighting the motion and going along with it. Hope that makes sense, but it permanently ended my sea sick problem.

I tried Dramamine once and experienced the exact symptoms you described. Always wondered who would benefit from that. I'm pretty sure the "in the cabin" thing is caused by the difference between what your eye sees (everything is sitting still) and what your inner ear feels (everything is moving). That has made me sick before too.

I use Bonine and do exactly as mentioned, even start taking it a couple days prior to hitting the water It is crucial to get it in your system. Never realized it but I do agree now that you mention it keeping busy does help. Sitting around on the boat and doing nothing is brutal anyway. Another issue I ran into was using out of date meds. Found that out the hard way. Now I make sure meds are fresh fresh!!

If someone is severely seasick and you are a long ways offshore, a temp emerg technique to stabilize the person before heading back to shore, is get them off the boat into the water. Tread water for 10-15 minutes. Then get them back in and race home!! 😀 learnt that from some dive charters.

I've done this for years now, always works even in rough water. I would only add that you have to have something on your stomach, eat breakfast if you can, just not a heavy or exceptionally greasy breakfast NO MILK OR DAIRY THOUGH. Also, you have to stay hydrated, I sip a 12 oz. bottle of water (the best thing to drink off shore) on the way out and always have a light lunch and maybe a snack or two while I'm out there.

I also notice that I only get sick when the boat is still. If the boat is driving then I'm instantly...instantly okay.
I've had the same problems in a hammock since I was a child. And I can't read while I'm in a moving vehicle.
I really wish I can solve this because I love the ocean and every time I go out there in the deep to fish the other people look down on me because I'm not contributing to catching the fish because of my headaches. Sucks.

AND, you KNOW it is working, if in the morning, you have serious "dry mouth", when your mouth feels like cotton balls are in there--which doesn't feel great I admit, but then, I HAVE NEVER BEEN SICK. But here is the difference, Scopolamine is expensive and prescription while dramamine is cheap and over the counter. Anyone try hypnosis? A hypnotherapist told me it will prevent seasickness. I'm going to try it.

I always got seasick as a kid, and Dramamine would knock me out every time. The one thing I found that always worked and didn’t have any side effects is acupressure wrist bands. Put them on when you get on the boat and leave them on the whole time and you’ll have no issues, even in the cabin. I even wore them for a week straight sailing the keys. No issues!

Great vid and thanks. If you or any of your subscribers know this or other methods that don’t use pills could you share them with Margarida from Sailing into Freedom who gets nailed by sea sickness all the time. Thanks for what you do⛵️🐟

Has anyone been seasick to the point that they’ve seen the sky swirl into itself? I have.

Legit forgot about this video and comment from years ago lol. Still looking for a solution. Still wondering if anyone else has legit had this experience. Terrified to get this sick again but might risk it to give Bonine a try.

After many many trips on fishing boats in calm and super rough water the best thing you can do is be rested, hydrated, and use the 24hr less drowsy Dramamine. Half before you got to bed and a Whole pill when you get up. Light breakfast and you should be good to go every time. Packing some unsalted crackers and ginger ale is a plus. You do all that you'll be fine. I think 🤔😁

Question. If my fishing trip is at 1pm, what should I do?
Take one before bedtime, then what?

It is actually more dangerous at Wally world.. There is one around every corner. No corners out in open water.
