We use to use Bonine for our first and second cruise and then after that, we didn't need them anymore. We do keep bonine in our toiletry bag just in case of rough seas but even then it wasn't really necessary. Like you said, ships are really stable for the most part but I've encountered people where the slightest movement can cause discomfort. As always, great videos informing the cruising public of good options when going on a cruise. Thx Sheri, Happy Sailing!

Very first cruise in 27 days. Terrified of being seasick because I have no prior experience to know if i will. I've packed it all...bonine, seabands, motioneaze oil, ginger capsules, ginger chews, ginger mint tea 🤣 Something is bound to work I hope

I always say I get motion sickness from the spinning of the earth! And I've had very little problems on cruise ships! With all of these methods, the biggest trick is to jump on it early. Don't wait until you are truly sick to try things. I also find that with all of this, fresh air and nice deep breathing helps! Have a fabulous cruise!

My cousin and her family were on a small boat excursion on vacation. Her young daughter got very nauseous. The guide had her sit down put a cool rag on the back of her neck and made her smell rubbing alcohol. Then gave her slices of green apple. She got better quickly. Try bringing rubbing alcohol pads to sniff when nausea first starts, along with green apple and ginger chews. I'm bringing them on my next cruise in June 2023.

Nausea is often a mismatch in the brain between the information received from the position sensors in the middle ear, the pressure sensors in the legs/feet/skin and the input from the eyes. One free way to make things better is to get where you can see the horizon to increase the orientation as seen by the eyes thereby reducing the confusion in the system.

    Hi Sheree,
Love your channel so helpful and a true buddy during those depressing COVID years! I used to suffer terribly from motion sickness but I was determined to still cruise. Tried the bands, drugs provided by doctor….. however, the most effective, and not drowsy, are the Travacalm tablets. White packet, blue writing (other colours don’t work for me). I religiously take two tablets each day of the cruise, even on a six week cruise! No problems. These are over the counter and in Australia there are ten tablets per box.If it is particularly rocky, I’ll always head for the deck and get some fresh air, whatever the weather. I hope we’ll meet you guys one day on a sea adventure. There is no better way to holiday . Thanks for your entertaining and informative vlogs.😎

Gin gins and sea bands work well for me. Also don't let your stomach get too empty.

  • @fortyfabulouscruising3855

I ordered a pound of ginger chews off of Amazon. I also use the Patch that goes behind the ear. I always bring Children Dramamine for my nephew when he travels with me.

  • @JenniferPerryMyScraproom

I always get a little woozzy on the first day but I also love the aft and upper decks of the ship so I really do myself no favors. 🙂 I pack my sea bands, a few patches and if all else fails and Rx of Zofran from the doc that stops vomiting. This time because we are also going to be on such a long cruise I will be packing my peach ginger tea in a baggie. Not only do I like the flavor and it works but it is also a nice portable - consumable touch from home.

KEEPING COOL! I am very susceptible to motion sickness, and this advice has changed my life. I know it's sort of covered in the video under 'getting fresh air' but I find that can lead to some misunderstanding. On a warm holiday - I make sure that I start the day cool, wear cooling clothing, wet hair/back of neck regularly, and avoiding rushing (especially when carrying bags).
I would certainly recommend the other treatments, but cutting down on drowsy remedies has made my experience so much better.

Great tips for minimizing the effects of the motion in the ocean. If I notice fresh ginger slices in the Asian breakfast area of the buffet, I will have some daily in the morning whether I am feeling seasick or not. I add some of the slices into a cup of tea and enjoy it that way. Also, on my last cruise with NCL, the staff put out ginger tea bags in the buffet area when the ship was being tossed. The ships may have ginger tea bags available in the restaurants as well. It's very easy to ask for! Smooth sailing y'all!

Ive never taken any of the OTC drugs. Never had the patch behind the ear either. Tried the bands but they hurt my wrists. On the last cruise it got a bit choppy - the pool was going nuts. I felt a little bit queasy. I found the best thing to do like you suggested in the video was go to the low deck like 3 and hang out for a bit. Never ever book a cabin in the forward if you are prone to motion sickness. You could possibly be miserable for any time spent in the stateroom.

  • @Odieboggs

I start less drowsy Dramamine the night before my cruise and take each night of the cruise. I just do it to make certain that I don’t have issues. So far that has worked for me. I have never had motion sickness. Being sick is absolutely not in my cruise planner. My tip is the Equate or Dollar General brand of Dramamine works just fine.

On a recent a trip to Hawaii though, granted much smaller boats, I got really upset.
I’m going on an Alaskan cruise soon and now I’m afraid I’ll get motion sickness 😂.
For me I think the mental part plays a role.

I always get motion sickness if im in a car, bus or train and even more so if im on my ph or reading something, so i was really worried about our first cruise. Id seen on these videos about the sea bands and was very skeptical, thinking they would never work. Departing through the heads and coming back home through them in Sydney Australia i started feeling unwell. I had bought because of the suggestions online a pk of seabands and some "natural" travel calm sea sickness tablets. (i think they're mainly ginger tablets). I've tried the "original" ones before and hated them. They made me hallucinated and feel like i was intoxicated. Anyway i put my seabands on both wrists, took two sea sickness tablets and within 10 minutes the nausea was gone and i was ready to enjoy my very first cruise :) i ended up taking the seabands off on day 3 as they were annoying my wrist but then coming back into the heads again that last night i felt ill again. So just popped them back on, had two more tablets and was ok again :) so this skeptic is highly convinced that the combination of the two saved me being very ill onboard :) i will Def be taking both again on our cruise in 3 weeks :)

We've been using Sea Bands for several years. However, my husband wears them during the cruise and I have to wear them after the cruise due to disembarkation syndrome. I have a difficult time adjusting to being OFF the ship. The land rocks back and forth. The neuro-otolaryngologist I went to told me this could hit at any time for the rest of my life. Not fun, but they bands have been a life saver.
