#SonyAlpha #Sony50mmf1.8 #LensComparison - Krátké a kreslené filmy
I've got both of them and tested them on my A6000. Since I'm only taking photos: The full frame lens is much sharper and focuses much better in low light conditions. I hope that will help a few a you in your buying decision.
Loved your note on using the 50mm OSS on full frame camera at the end! That was one of the reasons I was not sure about the OSS one, but it is not bad! Thank you!
居然在这里看到了大碗😂😂
你好大碗拿铁😎
Just picked one up! Thanks for the info, appreciate it and subbed!
Got the FE today going to the shop first thing in the morning to change to the OSS. Thanks Jason !
Great video! It's helpful for us as viewers if you refer to lens by it's name rather than saying "this one" so that we can remember which one you are reviewing. I got confused which one you were talking about several times. Great work tho!
I kinda like how slow the focus was, for more realistic cinematic focusing.
Does the difference in field of view makes any difference? I use a6000, would appreciate suggestion, I'm into potrait photography. Thanks in advance.
Thanks mate, that was very helpful.
Thanks for the great review!
Thank you for watching
Thanks for the info. I just picked up A6100 with kit lense. 55mm f1.8 is I'm looking for interview filming. Thanks 😊
OMG so much thanks for that test on A7, I was looking for that actual footage like everywhere..
Amazing comparison! Exactly what I needed right now. So I'll send the FE back and order the OSS :D thx dude!
glad it helped
Can you help in understanding the differences between Sony SEL50F18 E 50mm f/1.8 OSS E Mount Lens and Sony 50mm f/2.8 Macro. Which one suits best when I have to cover things like low light, potrait street photography, bokeh and close shots
Would the 50mm oss lens cause some Vignetting on the Sony A5100?
And is it realistically 75mm instead of 50mm since it's a crop sensor camera ?
there is no (or extremely limited) vignetting on crop sensors. And yes it gives a 75mm full frame equivalent field of view. :)
so should i get the Sony 50mm f1.8 OSS or the Sigma 56mm f1.4 for a6000?
The real comparison must be the picture quality between both lens.
You answered a question I was wondering about - how important the OSS is for pictures. And I really appreciate that you give the winner up front rather than keeping it a 'secret' until the end - as if people cant just scroll forward. Thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
this was super helpful thx bro
thanks for watching
thank you bro, this is very helpful
thank you for watching
Just put my order in and for a minute I was panicked thinking I bought the FE version. FEW good news! I got the OSS!
Yes. The OSS version definitely is a great lens
i have just done the opposite 🤦🏻♂️
Did you upgrade the firmware on the 50 mm F1.8?
V 0.2 Makes a huge difference
i have the 18-105 f/4 sony lens. so i have the 50mm length but at f4. do u think i should invest in this lens. can u do a comparison of using prime 50mm v. using zoom at 50mm at f4
thanks for the upload!
thank you for watching
Thanks alottt for giving me an idea
Just removed the SONY 50mm f1.8 FE from the purchase list!!! Thank you, mate! Great stuff as always...didn't realise you did this comparison a few yrs ago. Great channel and only tuned-in over last two years when I got a7iv.
which one you recommended for sony A7 full frame ???
I suck at math so if I put the 50 oss on my full frame camera, did not use APSC mode, and then cropped the resulting image in post to the percentage you mentioned to get rid of the vignette what would my field of view be equivalent to? 60mm? If so would that essentially mean I now have a 60mm equivalent lens that is image stabilized? How about the aperture? Is it still considered f/1.8? Thanks!
Oh man now you're testing my math haha. It would be 60mm I believe. Apparently you are meant to adjust for the crop factor on the aperture but it also depends on the T stop value. How much light actually enters at the back on the lens into the sensor. Optimally its perfect for the APS-C cameras. I was just seeing what it would be like on full frame. Definitely many better lenses for your full frame e-mount camera
Great explanation, thanks
thank you
Hi David,
I am planning to take clear and sharp food videos on food recipes on youtube. which SonyA6XXX version would you recommend and also which lens would be suitable for food videography. Thanks david
Nice compare!! Thanks! when I use this lens even on manual focus the noise is so weird. Do you tried move focus ring in manual focus to left and to right fast? do you feel something loose? maybe the motor...
Yeah, not going to lie, the 50mm FE lens is just not that great with noise. Produces decently sharp images just a bad focussing system.
Jason bro help me out ! I was going to for the 50mm OSS and they gave me the FE and I didn’t noticed , I mainly shoot cars with the a7ii . Should I return it and get the OSS ?
Sony oss 50mm 1.8 or sigma 56mm 1.4 which one will be better for Sony a6400 and pls tell the focal length of these lens for my camera little confused :)
Is the oss the one you have to crop in?
Dang dude, would the cheap ring not even budge with a DIY rubber friction gripper? I'll usually just use like one of those rubber ovals they make to help old people open pickle jars on it. Sometimes if it's really stuck you can use the rubber gripper and the bottom of a plastic cup for a better grip.
How's the auto focus of Sony 50mm f1.8 apsc lens ?
I am more into photos and mostly i like to capture candids with fast movements like those of childrens, pets and events. Which of these lenses can perform better in terms of tracking focus and sharper images? i am using a 6400
Is there a huge difference between the two stabilization-wise? Looking to get one of these for my A6400
The OSS makes a fsilry bit difference with video stability
So I can’t use the OSS version on a full frame Sony?
You definitely can. You can use in crop mode or just crop in post. Works perfectly fine
Awesome review!
Thank you! Cheers!
This is an APSC lens, correct? So would that be a 75mm on a full frame?
I was going to get a Nd Filter for the Sony 1.8 w/ oss. Look like I need a step up 49 -67 by polar pro. I live in California.
Yes, you will need multiple step up rings to fit a 67mm ND filter
pro tip, use the rubber back of your mousepad to take off stubborn filters and rings, also you can take a qtip with a tiny amount of grease and thread around filters to avoid this issue from ever happening.
vice grips wouldn't get filters off so I don't think a rubber mouse pad would. I also don't suggest using any grease solution on the front of the lens even if it's a small amount pre or post mounting
@@JasonMorrisphotocinema its all about even pressure, vice grips would actually apply pressure to only two points on the filter making it worse bending it slightly (think ovals), not all around. You don't have to take my word just look up think fstoppers has a guide, they even sell filter wrenches that apply 360 degree pressure to rotate evenly. As for the grease, to each their own. I don't baby gear I'd rather prevent the issue from happening while out shooting and as long as you apply it very lightly to the filter itself and not the front element of your lens you'll be fine lol. Keep up the great work!
Actual video starts at 2:05
Is shooting without image stabilisation really that bad? I own a a6000 at the moment and plan to buy a a7ii later on. Will I be able to use the FE lens on my a6000 until I get the a7ii?
If you shoot video stabilization is very important. The a7ii has IBIS but having that extra stabilization will be helpful especially at 50mm. You can also use full frame glass on your a6000 but you won't utilize the full light range of the lens.
1:38 there is such thing as Lens Filter Remover Wrench!
Will there b a crop factor if i use the oss with a6000 ? Confused cause its a lens for apsc
the 50mm OSS lens is designed for the APS-C cameras but all lens focal lengths will still need to multiply any crop. So the 50mm OSS will have a field of view like a 75mm on a full frame body. Hope that makes sense
@@JasonMorrisphotocinema yo thanks man 🤝
Thanks
Nice video. But using an aps-c lens on full frame camera and then crop in to avoid the vignette, whats the point of having the full frame camera? I would never recommend using aps-c lens on full frame. Never.
Very nice video, i got a6400 with kit lens sony 18-135, so kit lens will suitable for 4k video, OR i need one more lens for better 4k video, if yes then which lens you will prefer ? Thanks
Hi IRFAN, I also have the 18-135mm kit lens. Very versatile and you can pretty much do anything you need with this lens. One lens I do recommend is the 16mm f1.4 by Sigma
@@JasonMorrisphotocinema Well. Thank you for quick reply, in fact many people recommend me regarding sigma lens, but i am confused in between Sigm 16mm & 56 mm. Can you please mention me difference in both. ? Regards
@@IRFAN-po5sz the only thing difference is focal length. 16mm gives you a decent wide POV whereas the 56mm is quite telephoto. Good for portrait photography or any close up shots. So really depends on what you shoot
Hi Friend, thank you for this vid. Always with the best tips. 👍🏻☕🌴🌋☀️
thank you for watching again ma man
I've been reading a few articles comparing these 2 lenses. I'm a little confused. The FE 50mm is a full frame lens, so using that on a cropped sensor, am I right to say that it actually functions as a roughly 75mm lens on APS-C?
yess
@@FDFchannel1 Then I don't even understand the reason why this video exists. One does not simply compare two lenses of different focal lengths. Perhaps a comparison between FE35mm f1.8 to SEL50F1.8 is more meaningful.
@@kenneth6102 the reason people take the fe is because when u upgrade to a full frame camera you can use it on the full frame and then it will be a 50 mm
But from what i see the oss crop lense is better quality
@@FDFchannel1 If one buys the FE50mm, one doesn't have a 50mm lens to use on the APS-C, which is sort of not ideal. The Sigma 56mm F1.4 is also worth considering.
Talking about upgrading to full frame, I dunno. People who would do that and keep all their limbs would buy a used DSLR with an array of old lenses (eg. 5Diii with some primes for around 2k). APS-C users want the latest tech without massive price tag of mirrorless full frame. It's hard to imagine switching from a 6K downsampled 4K on APS-Cs to a cropped 4K on full frame: or 12-15 shots per second on the APS-C to 3-5 shots per second on full frame.
If you want to keep all the tech, you're looking at a price jump from 1.5k bucks for a good body with decent prime lens to 4k+ bucks on full frame. Most realistically, if you want to future-proof a nifty-fifty, l dunno what to say.
my rookie mistake a few years ago. i didnt know there's two type for this lens. ughh i got the FE version
you make not need to blame yourself entirely. I got the the FE version at a camera shop and even brought in my Sony ASP-C to test it. The salesman mentioned nothing about the E version even though they had that option available. Granted, i should have asked but still, he could have mentioned it. Ive had it almost 6 months and i'm just now finding out about the E OSS version having a better motor and other thing for APSC while watching this video. I now know why i hear random tedious noise will using this lens. I also purchased a warranty on the this lens so maybe i should accidentally .....nah. Maybe ha?
@@captureinsidethesound E OSS only for APSC right? And FE for full frame? Am i right?
@@MH-ql9dl Sony E Mount will allow you to use both lenses in both FF and APS-C bodies, however they perform better in the body they were intended for. "FE"=Full Frame and "E"= APS-C.
@@mrv1963 Oh i see. Thank you btw. May you success in your life hereafter.
It's time for fullframe hahaha
Хорошее видео, спасибо. Жаль по картинке этих стекол нет сравнения.
Hey which lens would be best for my a6300 .. sigma 56 mm f1.4, sony oss 50 , sony FE 50
Sigma 56 f1.4 is a better lens for image quality and with a faster aperture
which one better for my Sony a6500?
i haave sony a73 and 50mm 1.8 apsc lens i understand now thats why i cant take photo sharp and this was my problem.about sharp you said my.problem now veryt thanks for description i love you dude
Thanks!
Is the latest firmware update for the Fe 50mm f1.8 doesn't make a lot of noise?
yes. It is just a noisy focussing motor with the design
Jason Morris oh okay thankyouu very much!
What lens did you use for the video?
it would be the tamron 17-28mm f2.8 lens
Which one would recommend for the a6100
The 50mm f1.8 OSS would be best
I have a a7ii, which would you recommend to be better? I am only new to photography
for photography i would choose the FE lens to utilise full frame
@@JasonMorrisphotocinema thank you!
If you use the fe on the apc camera does it increase its focal length by (i think) 1.5x? Or is it the same as the sel
yes it does. a Full Frame 50mm lens on the APS-C will make it a 75mm field of view
What profile picture are u using in this youtube video?
HLG
Which is best sony a6400 for video
the 50mm OSS lens definitely
Do you recommend the FE or OSS for the Sony A7III?
FE mainly because you don't lose resolution in full frame mode
I bought the sony A7 this week and glad I saw this awesome review of you! I still have my A6000 with the 50mm F1.8 OSS so which lens is there on full frame to replace this? The most on FE have no OSS or are very expensive.
That is the downside to most full frame lenses is they're so expensive. And to get OSS you may need to invest in their zoom ranges which seem to have it
@@JasonMorrisphotocinema thank you for the answer!
@@JasonMorrisphotocinema ???
Is it worth my money to invest in the OSS for my old friend a5000?
Or should I jut invest in a better camera altogether?
I would honestly invest in a newer camera. The 5000 series are very limited in their capabilities.
Jason Morris thank you so much for answering. I guess I’ll just keep saving until I can afford something better. Let’s hope it doesn’t take too long 🤞.
All the best
@@verysmarrname no problems. hope it helps. if anything you can get the lens first then upgrade the body later. you will still be able to create master pieces with the a5000
Get a a7II ($800) + FE 50mm ($200). That’s my opinion for the best budget 50mm combo.
Whatsup man, would you still recommend getting the FE version for an A6000? I can get it for around 100 bucks. Or save up and get the OSS version?
Hey, I have both lenses, if money is a big deal you could probably do just fine with the fe. It's noisier but still gets the same image. However, if you're worried about shake creating blur and noise getting in your mix then you definitely want to save up. It's a significant expense, I can almost get two lenses for the price of the oss. Right now the fe is on sale for black friday weekend, so at $200 it's $150 less than the oss. But, I'm returning the fe, it's just too loud and cheap sounding, I do video... the OSS is another added perk.
Great content!! I own a6400 means I can pick that oss one and it can be usable in case I switch to full frame right? Is there any option present in full frame cam to use as apsc or any kind of option for crop to make it usable?
Yes there is crop mode on full frame Sony cameras. It even has clear image zoom
Which one is better for my sony a6500 sir?
the 50mm f1.8 OSS version is better
Then which step up rings are best??
I haven't actually bought any new ones yet. I just don't screw them on very tight anymore
I just heard the first seconds of the music and boom! Subscribed bro! 🤟🏼
legend! thank you for subbing and watching
6000 me konsa lu bhaiya
Hey im new to cameras, does the OSS fit on Sony a7 mark2?
Or am i not goin with that for a fullframe camera cus i have to crop all the time??
the OSS does fit on the full frame line as I tested this on my a7iii. it performs just fine but you will need to crop in post or use crop mode on your camera. Either way it can still be done. Maybe not optimal but still works fine. Just be sure to take note that if you do use crop mode it will apply the 1.5 x crop onto your image making it a 75mm lens. In photos you will actually lose resolution as you are using parts of the 24MP sensor and not the full frame
Alright got you! What other lens should i get then? Could go budget on around 250/300$ since im still new😊👍
I can get the Sony A7ii for 810$ should i go go??
@@kasper8007 Depends on what you need, if you want to get into FF shooting- mainly for photos, then I suppose so but if it's video I dont think so, there is the a6400 thats more capable when it comes to specs and FF isn't everything tbh- AF is better as well, I went with the a6400 over the a7II and am really glad I did.
Hello, I liked your video !
Thanks for liking
Step-up ring suggestion?
thank you for watching Michael. Freewell actually do step-up rings. amzn.to/35K7XAr
Beeep, too late :). I already bought FE for my A6000. Except AF noice, i am happy with image.
everything is perfectly fine except that auto focus noise. Image quality is great though
@@JasonMorrisphotocinema Your video is forced me to start to thinking about OSS for A6K and one week laeter after this vid, i am waiting to arrive OSS on my adress :) . Found A7 user with APSC 50mm lense who is happy to exchange his lense for my FE :) . Thank you again Jason for this vid :)
Which one would recommend for a7|||
Sony FE 50mm as it is full frame and a7iii has IBIS
God 😭 i jus bought yesterday the fe lens for my a6400
How is it performance wise for you?
but not in low light location . shooting using full frame camera with aps-c lens in low light location definitly creates too much noise since the footage will be cropped
Little tip from an old dog. Just apply a knats squirt of WD40 to a clean rag, then wipe rag / lubricant over the thread surface. Problem solved. 👍 fine metal threads are prone to locking up when dry.
damn! you tell me this now haha
I was the 1k LIKE !!!!!
The FE one sucks! I have it with me right now
Crazy, I watched this video probably not long after it came out and totally forgot about it. Last night I bought the dread fe 50mm 1.8 because the guy at best buy was like "I don't know why the other is more expensive, I pretend like it doesn't exist". So, I though, save $150 and get the fe so then when I go full frame one day I'll have a nice full frame lens, win win! well, no win, I'm taking this loud junk back!
wow cheaply made
which one better for my Sony a6400?
100% the 50mm f1.8 OSS
