      It's possible. I remember an episode of the show before he left where he said he had cancer and was either recovering or about to get surgery (I haven't been through the early ones in a while). And I only listened to his explanation the one time; could have been both.

      scw55 it was both. He had chemotherapy for the cancer and also got HIV which dragged his health down and he got Addicted to drugs (not sure what kind but I don't really blame him, Chemo and HIV must have sucked hardcore) and while I miss him, I think he needed to just step back and focus on himself. You could tell towards the end of his involvement he wasn't quite as... There. As he was before

      I won't get into all the outside of game stuff, since that's a whole big other story. As Tiberius I realize that he did great when he was in his lane. Like this professor Tiberius. The smartest one of the group and a bit of a braggart. I realize that as the in game problems started happening it was when he started trying to be in ALL the lanes. He didn't want to just be the smart spellcaster. He decided he was going to make sexual jokes like Scanlan, he got a pet like Vex, He started crafting (Percy) melee weapons, and using them brutally (Grog). He wanted to shine not only in his moments but take over the moments he'd seen others shine.

      To be honest he was my favorite along with Scanlan from episode 1 until shopping and shipping. It wasn't his 2 hour grocery list that killed it but the tension between all the players was thick and it leaked into the game and made it impossible to enjoy. One of my favorite moments in Avatar was the filler episode with Uncle Iroh because it gives them opportunities to show inner depth to a character. This is due to outside influences and probably only would have grown worse but if Orion was healthy and confident in his ability to say monstrous transformation or no, i would have loved the story they would make with the character. Now i rely on travis and sam to carry what i lack without Orion but the episode i'm on right now (33/34) Travis has been seemingly not feeling it and Marsha is a bit oppressive. Orion kept the party in the "roll your eyes and carry on" mood keeping everyone else in check per se, while being amusing in his musings. Now i can feel his presence missing. NOTE: Not hating on any of them and don't want to hate on any of them lol.

      AOE Frosty It gets better. I think part of the issue was that Marisha was kinda taking the spot that Tiberius had left. She was being overly confrontational about all the the groups choices (even if its in her character nature) but then would just go off and do whatever she wanted at several points, forcing the group to react to her. I have a player like that in one of my groups and it can be very frustrating at times.
      Overall, Tensions where high at the time and some players trying to "Step Up" and fill Tiberius roll caused some issues imo.

      Marisha has sort of annoyed me since the very start. I'm still in the Underdark below Kraghammer and she's just very 'screw you all' and just pouts when she doesn't get her own way. I get that she succeeded and got Clarota but when the entire group said "no, we're trying to think of a plan" and she said "Nah, I steal the magic carpet and go do my own thing." The entire group just sighs and rolls their eyes. That's not a positive influence on a group. Not to mention on top of that, especially in the beginning she's constantly ignoring Matt to look at her phone. I get they all use their phones at some point but keep your ears open, please.

      See, this is the thing that really kinda irks me when people bring stuff like this up though, it's NOT the fact that he didn't fit well with the group at all. Remember, they were playing this for over two years prior. Do people REALLY have so little faith in Mathew they they think he would not only do nothing in a situation where one of his players was "disrupting" the game for everyone else, but then allow that person to do so while broadcasting their personal campaign to the world? It seemed pretty clear that the players themselves were perfectly fine with the dynamic they constructed over those first couple years, it simply came down to people misunderstanding character interactions for real-life interactions and such. (see: Vax vs. Grog early on in the show)
      I personally feel that everyone that played a role in Crit Role did a great job. I legitimately cannot recall a single player character I disliked, let alone hated as much as some people seemed to hate Orion. (or Marisha, for that matter) I just wish people would learn to be a little more critical of their own dislikes, and maybe try not to speak on other's behalf when it's clear they don't have the full picture.

    After watching the first 20ish episodes, Tibs was my favorite because of moments like this. Unfortunately, meth destroys people and I hope Orion is doing better.
    It's unfortunate how things played out afterwards too because it looks like (in my opinion) if Orion had given up rights to Tibs, maybe Tibs could have been back in Amazon's animated series, instead it looks like he's been erased.
    Meth really meths things up yo

    It physically hurts to still see people hate on Orion/Tiberius, and even more so when they don’t know anything about him or his character. Even Matt is sick of how people talk about him. “He was so annoying and tried to steal all the glory” Thats his character. “He was so rude and inconsiderate” He is a Red Dragonborn Prince with a Wisdom of 4. “He is so angry all the time” Drugs and Cancer would do that to a person. “He is such a metagamer” So what? Let him play how he wants to, besides, this was adapted from Pathfinder where Magic users were basically demigods, I wouldn’t blame him for trying to regain that splendor. You insult my favorite Dragonborn, you insult all of Critical Role.

    • @LDaemontus
      @LDaemontus Před 6 lety +42

      I agree right up until metagaming.
      No, just, no.
      Every player abides by a standard. It's not 'playing how one wants to play', it's deliberately giving your actual character an advantage by using out of character information... lemme explain it this way. Say the party splits and they each have a task to do and are FAR AWAY from each other in the game. In the game, there is no way for either group to know what the others are doing or if they're even alive. One player from party B is listening to the DM describe what is happening to party A as a player (not the character). That player cannot use the player knowledge as character knowledge.
      For example, later on, much further in the campaign of Vox Machina, Taryon gets kidnapped. Matthew Mercer does split narrative where he switches between Sam Riegel and the rest of Vox Machina. The players all know what is happening but their characters don't. Metagaming is the act of doing or saying things that your character DOES NOT KNOW. Your character doesn't know where the kidnapped member is unless they make a perception roll or scry etc. If everyone at the table just meta-gamed, there would be no point in having any skill check rolls whatsoever.
      Metagaming is the only thing I disagree with here.

    • @KanetheSpaceWolf
      @KanetheSpaceWolf Před 6 lety +30

      Oh, I misunderstood metagaming then. I thought it was purposefully min/maxing your character in order to perform as best as possible in combat and immediately using enemy weakness when your character shouldn't know them. My apologies.

    • @Logan_Baron
      @Logan_Baron Před 6 lety +24

      I will say that it is more Orion than the character of Tiberius that often tried to make everything a drum solo (I don't want to call it stealing all the glory). It doesn't deserve that kind of hate though. It's a flaw, but we all have them, as do the other members of Critical Role in different ways. Other players and especially the DM will draw that back a bit, well hopefully so in our games, but with CR they will try to handle that and control of fix it. You can come up with complaints about gaming flaws of most of the players. It's not worth that kind of hate.
      There are other examples and ways of Metagaming, and that is a good example above. Having played for ages (back to the basic/Expert Boxed sets Moldvay covers) most players metagame to some extent or try. Orion is nowhere near the worst I've seen. No I wouldn't allow it, but I'm just saying he wasn't the worst at what players will attempt to metagame, without trying, or sometimes realizing what they are doing. Matt was pretty good about keeping it under control.
      Orion was totally different in playstyle. He didn't mesh as well as the other players do together. He was a bit of an outsider in the group, even in the home games you can tell. And that's not a bad thing. It can bring an interesting dynamic. I mean we can tell the difference. I've even been that outsider myself in some groups.
      I really didn't like how some people acted about when he killed the crone with the krull thing. Yeah she was running away at that moment, but if her spell hadn't failed she would have been sticking around to finish of the group she was hired to kill. He ain't no Paladin. I applauded him. I mean it was pretty brutal but kind of funny. He may have been rude and inconsiderate to a certain extent in some situations, but that was the highborn dragonborn character and he roleplayed it well. As he did Tiberius's love and respect to the rest of his party.
      Also his "I walk away" scene was terrific.

    This is just my personal headcanon, but the first few minutes of Orion Acaba's Draconian Knights gives the impression Tiberius is a dimensional traveller. I personally like to think when Ocaba's Tiberius left the early campaign he plane-shifted back to his dimension and thus begins Ocaba's Draconian Knights radio play. Meanwhile, the Tiberius that resides in Exandria is one we never actually met. For the sake of closing a plothole with that, assume AC's Tiberius arranged for Lockheed to be placed into EX Tiberius' possession rather than take the pseudo-dragon back with him.
    Vox Machina make the assumption both are one and the same, and there you have it - best of both worlds.
    I'm not gonna lie, I wouldn't mind seeing fanfiction where Tiberius stuck around... or they meet the other Tiberius. Maybe I should write some? xD

      Tiberius was irrational, and sort of compulsive. Arguably due to his low wisdom. He was oblivious to how he talked down to people, unable to insight how his words and demeanor were degrading or bragging. He also tried to throw around his knowledge without the rights words for the conversation. I mean he even attacked someone's magical wards. We can easily see that he wasnt wise!
      I think it was played well. Now if we look at Keyleth, who has above stats in all mental stats, but is played like a ditz, you can argue keyleth doesnt seem like an above average extremely wise person.
      But either way, both (all) characters were great :)

      If you just google his name + Critical Role you'll see a reddit thread. Scroll that reddit thread and you'll see two kickstarter scams he conducted, plus evidence from his abused ex girlfriend. He was a shit stain. Tiberius was a dislikable character, but he had room for growth (as did Orion, but there were probably conversations off-stream they had about the subject)
      Kickstarter Scams:
      - One was where he offered to raise money for a mod of one of his twitch streams, but never gave her any of the money www.reddit.com/r/DeFranco/comments/7qvgwb/orion_acaba_a_voice_actor_formerly_of_critical/ There's this thread, and then in here, it outsources to evidence to the person affected.
      - The other was for his all Dragonborn party that he started to basically be like Critical Role, raised about 3k and no one got their rewards nor did they get refunds (bc of how kickstarter works) There's evidence in the comments of that kickstarter www.kickstarter.com/projects/orionacaba/draconian-knights
      I can tell you for a 100% fact that anyone who hates Orion Acaba absolutely loved the dynamic Tiberius gave to the party. It's the PLAYER who ruined it all. And you can clearly see when it's Orion getting mad that he cannot be OP instead of Tiberius being frustrated that something did not work out
