- Alright. I hear you. Master VoG is hard. Today, we're going to disregard all of the issues with loot, with leveling, all of that stuff. This guide is to get you through Master VoG by whatever means necessary. Time to stop whining on reddit and start showing off that ship. Also I'm sorry for all the 20+ minute videos recently, I just have a lot to say, even this video could've been 10 minutes longer.

Additional modding/loadout advice that I didn't put in the video because my throat hurts:
VoG mods in normal mode are a meme. In Master Mode, they are not and I would actively encourage you to cobble together a raid armor set and use it in the raid. You're probably going to be hanging out near one of the activators at some point and they're all super cheap with huge benefits. But do you NEED them? No.
Season 14 specific: Crownsplitter and Energy Accelerant are still busted, feel free to use it to blow up big boy targets if you want to.
Witherhoard and an Ikelos weapon can generate insane amounts of Warmind Cells, which will destroy everything in a section. Drop a bunch of Witherhoard on the ground, swap to Ikelos SMG and watch the Cells fly. I personally am not the biggest Witherhoard guy, but if you don't have Anarchy (and even if you do), it is a fantastic tool to get free damage on everything as it comes out of doorways. Use Cellular Suppression if you're looking for stuns.
Stasis: My build is nowhere close to optimized for Stasis and I was still destroying the place. With the right loadout and mods, you can be spamming nonstop Bleak Watcher turrets. Stack grenade energy, get a weapon with Demolitionist like, oh I dunno, Salvager's Salvo, and you will never have to actually fight another enemy ever again.
Most of all: stop complaining and start adjusting. Most people are smashing their heads against this without making ANY sort of adjustments to their playstyle, weaponry or loadouts. Stop treating this like just another activity and treat it with some respect. Fix your mods, fix your weapons, fix your subclass, make some callouts and play hard. This isn't impossible to do. But it will be if you don't change your attitude and some of those stupid mods you have on. This isn't for everyone. This isn't for MOST PEOPLE. There is no problem with saying it's not for you. There IS a problem in making no adjustments whatsoever, dying a bunch and whining on reddit. Quit your crying, suit up and play.

I’d say it’s more like “Why should I have to play this game or grind bounties like it’s literally my job to be able to be competitive in endgame content when I already play it a ton?” All things considered, it’s not a short journey to get even to, say, 1335. You need to be a dedicated D2 player. It’s a lot of time to put in to then feel useless in endgame content.

@@sicklymoonlight raids on normal mode really have never been difficult and probably never will be. once the mechanics are mastered, gg raid is now a joke. difficulty in raids is only seen through higher difficulties.
@@sicklymoonlight if there was a hard mode crypt where you can’t just bring double slug anarchy on taniks and kill him in 10 seconds, and can’t one floor atraks with EASE with cuirass titans, then the raid would be much more difficult.

Taken already have Overload Taken Hobgoblins and Unstoppable Phalanxes. The thing we should worry about is that the Scorn don't have champions yet, and we get a Scorn raid with Unstoppable Abominations

My build advice in Destiny is always: "When you're dead, your DPS is zero"
Double stack reserves before you hit the rally, then change before the encounter 👍. For Atheon we had one O-Rig Hunter to tether and kill all the ads. Plus it creates a ton of orbs for supers.
Strats

Boots of the assembler or Phoenix protocol
Yo reserve swap trick, good thinking, I’ll have to do this when I do another master after reset.
I was our team’s Hunter, which I only mention because in the current meta, as few of my kind as possible in difficult content is what tends to be most effective and preferred. Stasis Warlock (and Devourlock for low-man or solo content) as well as Ursa Titan are just so much better as far as surviving and plowing through difficult content.
For Atheon, O-Rig on Supplicants is okay but not usually needed. If a team has already made the bold choice of having a Hunter at all (I can only do GMs / Master VoG on my Hunter so that’s why I was ours) then O-Rig or bottom tree with Sixth Coyote is great for most encounters other than Atheon (but use Stasis for gatekeepers to delay adds from reaching conflux).
However, at Atheon optimal Hunter DPS is surprisingly Lucky Raspberry with Anarchy/Null Composure or Anarchy/Salvager’s. Then, after DPS, your Lucky Raspberry grenades can easily add clear the side the supplicants are on.
For Warlocks the best Atheon DPS is similar to Hunter’s: Well Lock, Starfire Protocol with Null Composure or Demolitionist Salvager’s and Anarchy. It surpasses Nova Bomb, Beam, and is easier to use imo, just alternate energy weapon shots and grenade throws, and never use both grenades too rapidly, and you’ll three phase no problem.

Key to winning: Talk. Communicate with your team.
Have a plan, execute it, make changes if needed and go back to the beginning.
For me it's; versatile kit, good loadouts (not just 1), like datto say dont threat ads like jokes and know your kit fully know its passive and gimmick not just their super.... looking at welllocks and omni hunters
Key to winning: grind bounties for hundreds of hours to get to 1350.

My underleveled team found success opening the door by moving as a full stack of 6 to the left plate. Secure it, stabilize, then move 4 players to the door plate leaving 2 on the left plate. Secure and stabilize middle, then send the last 2 players to the last plate. Splitting the doors team immediately made it really hard for us to stabilize all 3 plates all at once.

Because we’ve always known plates to be really easy I had never even thought of this, that’s actually pretty smart if a team is struggling in teams of two

In all honesty, ty for the video. My group does NOT understand how good those 1 cost defense mods are, and it's extremely tough to get that point across. Really good advice to get through this.

@@TripleMoonPanda it’s probably a bit late, but Artificial Difficulty is when the only change that a game makes to increase difficulty is just pumping up the health and damage numbers and making no other changes to gameplay, forcing the player to resort to cheap tactics to win
Great video! You bring it straight to the point. My Master VoG highlight was that Arc Hunter with Raidenflux worked insanely good for Gatekeeper in the portals. I love how you actually benefit from Waveclear ultimates and you cant just shoot them with any weapons and its fine.
Yeah it can be useful. Sadly 3 Anarchy shots does it as good or if not better… but don’t let that take away your thunder!
I try to use different subclasses and stuff any time I can as well.

Fun Fact: If your team is going to melt templar, you can put on double shotty reserves then rally for the 20 in each shotty then you can swap to resistance mods while still holding the reserve ammo.

Slowly Datto will start losing himself and turn more and more into Elitist Datto à la Heisenberg. In a couple of seasons, we'll be tuning in to hear him rant about people not being able to clear a GM with blue gear.
I didn't see you mention them anywhere in the video (outside of them qualifying as crowd control), but blinding nades are top tier for most encounters. I was having great success with a Blinding + Slideshot + Demo ignition code on my bleak watcher build.

That’s probably Sneaky Beaver. He actually has a video on his channel of how he got to 1365 power. Basically he just collected multiple repeatable bounties and ran the Disgraced strike over and over.
You can also afk farm while you sleep. Not as efficient but it’s free levels while you are offline

I have a chest piece with double reserves for when I hit the flag then I swap to the chest piece I'm actually using with 2x concussive or 1x concussive and 1x resist mod.

I know you've been championing this idea for a while, but I love the heavy handed direction you've been taking with endgame activities. Totally agree -- they should absolutely be difficult. Rewarding both ends of the playerbase for their levels of dedication is what I like seeing from Bungie.

It occured to me when we were doing Master Vog on day 1 and actually discussing loadout and team composition how easy the game really is. In most content you rarely ever get into a discussion with the team on whats best to use, because even subpar loadouts can get the Job done.

I tried master templar last week. The group was chill and explained the mods that I needed, and holy shit did it make a difference. With them, my hunter got 100 resilience and 100 strength

Respect your teammates too, don't use jank because it's "fun." I got into a fight with a girl from my clan back in GoS because she was DPSing Sanctified Mind with Crimson when we were having trouble downing him. That was disrespectful to the people that were busting their asses trying to get the fight down and it was disrespectful to the people that did their homework and got Izanagi's, Wendigo, Mtop, Recluse, etc.. I don't care if Crimson is "fun" we're struggling on the boss and you're not pulling your weight. Use what's best and play your part and do fun runs later, new content should be taken seriously. You don't see guys like Sweatcicle doing 6 man Rat King on Atheon in week 1 of Master VoG, he's using the best stuff in the game because the content is hard.
