This Sansui receiver had several issues since the day it was designed and left the factory. It needs a few serious updates to correct some rather major flaws. Sansui made kits to take care of those flaws. So, it can be done. Just cleaning the controls will not be enough to fix it.

Just caught this one after watching your first video. Looks like you really got that wooden cover resolved! Very nice work! I would definitely upgrade those cables in the back, but as long as you're happy, that's what really matters. Sansui equipment are built like tanks, and last for decades before things need to be cleaned and replaced again. I have a G-7000 receiver that was made in 78, and the 9090 is one fine robust piece of audio equipment! I have a father-in-law from Wisconsin Rapids who has a great pair of Sansui Speakers. You guys know your audio equipment up there that's for sure!

I had the same sticker shock, when I took my Pioneer sx-1250 to be diagnosed, and repaired. Which turned into a $500 re-cap and other misc. repairs. OUCH!!! Nice vintage gear...... I like the older stuff.

Very neat receiver! I know Audio Ventures pretty well as I go by it all of the time. I'm currently in Waukesha and have several pieces of equipment that I collect. I'm hoping to be getting a Teac 4010 Reel to Reel deck in the next coming weeks. Been a subscriber for a while now. Always enjoy you'd videos!

Nice job on the restoration of a classic Sansui receiver.! Regarding the cabinet, I would have used Watco Black Walnut Oil instead of a gloss finish.! It would have been closer to the original finish and hidden imperfections in the surface instead of making them show up more.! Great find and good job of saving a classic very valuable receiver.! A very nice setup you have.! My brother had that same Technics SL-1200 turntable, that he got even over seas in the Navy at the tail end of Vietnam.! I have a SL1800 myself since new I wish I would have opted for the 1700 instead since it lifts the tone arm up at the end of the record.! If you find the right guy with the Rt test equipment the FM side is very doable to getting it work properly.! Probably needs some caps and realignment in the FM board.! My 2 cents worth😎

thanks for mentioning the Watco Black Walnut oil. I have a 9090db and plan to use this stuff to restore the finish.

You need to ship it to xraytonyb he can definentley fix it. They could not replace the caps or align the fm audio board and tone board cause there not trained electronic technitions.

About a month ago I post my Sansui DB 9090 on L.A. craiglist for $950.
It was sitting in my garage for 15 yrs. To my surprised... My phone was busy from callers saying they want it ? One persian guy ask me $800..?
I agreed.. later another guy ask me if I still have it ? I said yes... but someones coming to get it. He said I will come now and pays your asking price of $950. He did come less than an hour. I was soo surprised to google it... it was priced $1500-$2500 ?

In my opinion the at120e is the best cartridge for the under $200.00 range. Not shure what the ed is.

FM tuners aren't the easiest. A lot of techs don't want to touch them and tell people they aren't easily fixable. To be fair, setting up an FM receiver can take considerable time and quite a bit of test gear, by small shop standards.

I have been looking at ways to connect my 9090 to a hi resolution streaming device so I can listen to go resolution music. Any suggestions?

You can use A cable of right/left male RCA plugs one end with A stereo miniplug on the other.Connect it to any line input ;aux tape cd and connect to your cellphone earphone port to play the device.

@@bikebeerrun1960 yes I am actually doing that right now with a Plenue V but I was thinking about getting a DAC or something that I could stream from in high definition but I wasn't sure exactly what equipment I needed to stream high-definition to my home stereo

An DA converter or a Bluetooth adapter connected via rca to your aux input.

No no your supposed to hook up the am wire to the a.c.outlet!!!😄 nails in the cabinet with metal rails on the side? Is that a special mod from Sansui? Cabinet too shiney for me it needs some more sand paper. Oh what the heck just give it to ME. I COMMAND YOU😠
