- This vinyl railing is veranda from Home Dep. The less expensive stuff. It's really easy to work with and install. I would give this a 2 or 3 out of 10 as far as difficulty level. All u need is basic tools like a tape measure, back saw, level , screwdriver, and a half of a brain will get you by!

nothing like watching a video, and hearing woods cheap :P oh the good old days...
Thanks for taking the time to post this video. I needed a 6ft and an 8ft section for my small porch deck and picked them up today along with the brackets, sleeves and post caps with solar lights built in.
I wasn't sure about the tolerances but now thanks to you I can see that there's a little wiggle room when attaching the top and bottom brackets.
Thanks again.
I’m doing this right now. I know they are expensive but the veranda post install kit is awesome. Once you bolt down the post, they done move. You must put blocking under the deck boards so the 3/8” x 6” lag screws or bolts can grab them. The steel plate that goes under the blocking is about 1/4” steel.
Wow thanks my husband and I have the exact same project. We laughed at your video because you are so down to earth. We have basically the same deck, the same walkway( we did ourselves) & same color house
You made this so simple to follow thanks👍
Great Job. And definitely a work of love. Lots of time was spent making it. It had the detail I needed to understand how it worked. Thanks much.
Thanks ! Great information and it shows how very easy it is for a regular homeowner!! I'll do my own too!
Thanks for explaining it so plainly. I can go and tackle my railings. Thanks!
Great job and explanation! Thank you! Have a blessed day!
I'm a 58 yr. old Grandma, gonna try this one day soon! I used to watch my Dad work in the shop, hope this goes well. Thanks for the details!
You go grandma! I'm 62 and doing mine as a "honey-do" project. Happy wife...happy life!
Great tutorial video. I’ll be doing this today .
Great video. I’ve watched it many times so far so I know what I’m doing! Very thorough.
Also I was cracking up when you said you said you have to go watch game of thrones 😂 priorities! We love that show too.
you did a good job and I like your dog.
very detailed, thanks!!
Thank you J. Don't mind the haters. Were just regular homeowners and don't do this for a living. Looks great and glad your opinion was that it is a 3 out of 10 level. I'm taking the plunge and going for it! A little different in my case as I have 8 foot uprights holding up my porch roof but you taught me well enough. Good job!
Thanks for the video....Starting on mine right after breakfast....lol
Good info. Thanks!
thanks for the video. i'm getting ready to do the same thing. I'm drilling into concrete, so i have a little different set up. BUT, i'm also dealing with 2022 prices. they are definitely a tad higher than you had in 2017. is what it is.
Great info vid!!
John: First time viewing one of your videos; can say that it is the most thorough/relaxed and interest-keeping that I have witnessed; you give much confidence in doing the project {vinyl railing); just didn't get the store where available; want to take on the stair/step task and use /connect the pieces that I have to keep the same present style; hope I will get your answer somehow. Thanks.
Charles
Got everything from home depot in Massachusetts, that was a few years back. You know how things change.
I have the same railing. Getting it installed today with trex high performance decking.
Those are horrible....according to the reviews
@@greenearthblueskies8556 mine still looks great
great video! lol prices have gone up over the last 4 years. I need a couple 7' sections, glad they sell them in 8. I don't need posts, my front porch has columns I can screw into. easy peasy.
Thank you for putting this video together. You did a great job explaining as you went along. I am looking at the same stuff from HD, but the railings are not put together like yours are. I am not sure if that is a good thing or not. I am sure it is cheaper and less damage for them to ship that way.
I actually used one of those not put together ones. They come as a longer rail. Which I could of used in one of the spans because I was a little short with the pre put together ones. And they're also easier to trim when they're a part and a Then you just snap together and put the ends on , its really simple
The actual work starts at 11:20ish
Hello nice, where I can buy the post plate
Thanks for a good instructional show, was there any heaving from the snow. I have the 4 x 4 and will head to Home Depot for the over-laying vertical vinyl square pipe.
No heaving from snow. And those square tubes are what's recommended
Great video but how did you install the angle brackets on the railing? The package with the angle brackets do not come with instructions.
Home depot had a stair kit that includes angles plus you can buy the angles for the railings
Really great video. Very clear. Just one question: until it gets attached, the fencing rocks side to side. Is there any issue with it not being square, or did you just measure the top, and then apply the same measurement for the bottom?
Used a 90 degree level. But even so as decks are usually pitched for water there is plenty of slack for mistakes or un level things with those railings
How to replace those white collars at bottom after they crack and break? Mine all broke after five winters from hitting them with snow shovels.
Well my tops To the posts are not glued on so I would dis mantle one railing post at a time and slide 1 back down. Otherwise I might see if I could cut a new one in half and piece together and re glue
Where did u get the mounting plates from thanks want to do this on a small deck off side of my house
I got them from home depot but I think they were for big tall posts they just happen to be sitting around and a girl let me buy them separately
Hello, could you please post the link for the post plates?
I can't seem to find those adjustable angled connectors on Home Depot site. I have to have those or I won't be able to do the job. Do you remember what they called them so that I can search? Also, love the video and it was very helpful. I am going to try to do it myself. I got an estimate from a professional that was over $10,000!!!
Wow 10 large is ridiculous... so No I don't remember what they're actually called but they were pretty ready available at my home depot. Perhaps ask your home depot if a home depot that near you carries them. Otherwise maybe veranda sells them out right I don't know
i installed this last year, neglecting to put in the supports since my installation was different. Over the winter the bottom rails filled with water and since there is no drainage hole they warped. Replacing them now and will put a drainage hole or holes in them and will fashion some sort of support.
wow good to know maybe I will drill little drain holes in bottom rail, however mine are on 2nd winter so far so good...thanks
What kind of drainage? Aren't they capped on both ends?
No follow up update? Does it last?
Still standing no issues except it needs to be power washed every year to get rid of I guess some kind of Green algae.
How sturdy are the rails?
Sturdy enough for being plastic, but I wouldn't lean on them to be a life railing.
Dangit! I bought the baseplates as adjustable (ie. in pieces). Yours look like a single piece! Back to Home Depot...
Adjustable sounds better. Maybe that's what they sell now.
You need a piece of blocking wood underneath the decking board.
How many inches for blocking?
Wake me up when you're finished.
Edit to add: I actually did fall asleep watching this. So did my wife.
Lol..
I fall asleep with my wife on everything we watch as well
what a waste of rail and post without installing composite deck boards. I am doing my deck that is 40'x 12' with hidden fasteners. deck boards are almost all installed..can't wait until i install the first rail and top veranda posts are installed..
Until they shrink and warp and look horrible when they fade
Nah, there's advantages of having wood deck boards.
It looks great but why didn't you replace the top boards with Veranda Armor guard?
stephen geraci I don't know what armorguard is but I needed to replace the rotted railings and that cost enough
Oh I hear you on that end. Veranda Armorguard is a composite decking like Trex but half the price and it has a good reputation. I'm currently doing that on my deck in my backyard. It looks great but paying a contractor to do it is expensive.
Why replace the deck if it's in good condition? Nothing wrong with my deck so it stays. Railing is a little crappie so it's being replaced with home Depot veranda railing. Great job on your railing!
sniffle sniffle
You're handsome
hack job.
what you gots?
Is the camera man tooting some coke will recording
A lot of talking and not really that informative...
Those bones your dog has are awful, they wear there teeth down to nubs because they can’t chew them. Very bad for the dogs teeth.
