Not to be negative, but part of me wants the Jones vs Stipe fight to get delayed again, and then again. I enjoy watching Jones fans do mental gymnastics to come up with explanations on why its ok to continue to hold the belt without activity.
I had someone tell me yesterday that they would be ok with Jones holding it into 2026 without a fight because he “has done so much for the sport and is the GOAT.”

Jones is my favorite fighter of all time and has been since he first came around the ufc, but the fact he has the belt is stupid. He is not the champ. Tom is the champ, Jon should’ve been stripped when the interim fight started and it should’ve been for the real thing. Jones Stipe should still happen but not for the belt and both should retire after to justify the main event slot so they can do a cute lil Robbie lawler thing for them both

Jones is probably the Goat (regarding actual fighting skill). Just the most complete and creative fighter ever. I don’t like the PEDs or the personal life stuff but whatever.
That being said, I wish more dedicated Jones fans cared about structure like you. You can’t have the champ of ANY division be inactive and pursuing fights that don’t make sense for the division.

I don’t mind fighters being in the ufc and not chasing champion status like Kevin Holland for example, but you can’t have it both ways. Do your duty as champ, or have your champ status revoked. Calling for Stipe is questionable but postponing the Stipe fight over the injury and still denying Tom is all too far. It bothers me that Jon won’t just step down until he is ready to fight and let the sport live on. The company has always had his back, it’s his time to pay them back by doing the right thing. And even then it’s too late now. Very annoying behavior to see as a fan of him in the cage.
No mental gymnastics needed. He became the champion.. and was then injured. You don’t strip the belt from a champ because of an injury. Tom won some fake interim belt that never should’ve been given for that fight. That was the UFC’s fault for creating this entire “scared of Tom” saga. Tom wasn’t even in the top 3 contenders, and they gifted him some fake belt. He’s not the champion, because he has never faced the top 2 or 3 guys. He will do what he’s told, and wait. You don’t strip a belt for an injury. Injury is not inactivity.

They really need to pull away from dope tests and allow these fighters to use every benefit as possible. You don’t get physically better when you get older. Test levels drop and the repeated adrenal dumps play a huge factor. This has occurred with service members with combat experience.
