I am the biggest Madrid fan and I am supporting Portugal simply because of Ronaldo, but I cannot stand people, that just because they are fans, totally lose their sense of reasoning. That was a shameful display. In my opinion, he should be stripped of the captaincy. It's like going to war with a major (or whatever), and just because you have a little setback, he starts crying in front of the troops.

    Portugal have a very similar problem to England, France, Croatia, and many other teams. Their own players consistently destroy attacks by being so risk adverse in the final third, constantly bypassing first time service and shots, and constantly passing the ball backwards and sideways again and again and again. This makes it so much easier for low and mid block teams to defend when they are allowed to constantly defend facing up as opposed to defending running back toward their own goals. I genuinely feel like a plague has overcome the modern game with players so obsessed with keeping possession at all costs. Even in the final third. When will this insanity end?

    • @zerus4435
      @zerus4435 Před 2 dny +7

      Croatias problem was simply relying on too old finished players. Also their coach should get fired he has zero clue about modern tactics. Brozovic, Perisic, Modric, Vida, Kramaric, Budimir, all should be thrown out. All of them are over 33.

    • @y2flyy
      @y2flyy Před 2 dny +27

      FINALLY someone has said it! Man this is 1000% true. Along with the constant lobbing the ball into the box area. Hoping for a lucky bounce or perfect situation.
      This is why scoring is so low in high level competition (like the EuroCup, Copa, WC, etc..)
      Its insane to watch. Photosolife again puts it perfect about risk adverse (I frustrating say they are scared). What happened to attack forms like tika taka, where players actually called attacking plays, made great through passes and tried scoring.
      Now they just kick the ball sideways as soon as they see a darn defender.
      Never thought I'd say this but after attending and now watching many MLS matches.
      It is the more exciting soccer (even over Premier League) to watch for me.

    Trolls blaming Ronaldo need to look bigger picture. Because the bigger picture issue at this tournament is number 9’s are hardly scoring from open play. The reason being possession obsessed tactics are taking number 9’s out of the game and making it so much easier for low and mid block teams to defend number 9’s. Strikers thrive on service, particularly first time service. And modern players, particularly inverted wingers, literally never provide first time service. Constantly allowing opposing back lines to face up defending instead of running back toward their own goal has become so common.

    If you’re person who’s making fun of Cristiano Ronaldo for crying on camera in front of the whole world after his penalty miss against Slovenia, then you’re either a Messi fan someone who doesn’t care about football isn’t a real fan or just wants to slander Ronaldo and his fanbase. We thought that he was gonna score an easy penalty when he was awarded one and even that he couldn’t score it to save his life. The day he decides to retire is when everyone will be in tears and they’ll regret praying on his downfall and mocking him for being a crybaby knowing full well that he won’t be around in football for much longer. Don’t get me wrong, a 39 year old crying after a penalty miss is absolutely embarrassing which is why he’s come under a lot of criticism as he was doing everything in his power to try and end his goal drought at the EUROs and he dropped an absolute stinker and at times he was very selfish when it came to the amount of free kicks he was taking and I can’t blame him for that, but we have to remember that he’s still Ronaldo and no matter what he has won in his career at his age, he still has that drive and hunger which is the right thing to do and it’s always a good thing to have that sort of attitude.
    He knew how close his country where to getting eliminated especially since after the game, he said that EURO 2024 is his last ever major tournament for Portugal and at least in extra time he was saved by his goalkeeper and he scored his penalty during the shootout and you expected him to do that anyways as he won’t miss 2 penalties both in the game and in the shootouts. Depending on how far they go, it doesn’t matter because you shouldn’t be hoping for him to get eliminated because you all need to save your tears of that happens (Ronaldo fans).

      Steve Nicol is an idiot plain and simple. One free kick was barely off target. It had Oblak scrambling to get to it. The other was a thunderbolt that only a top-class goalie like Oblak could save. Even the penalty wasn't bad. Overall, Cristiano performed well he was a threat as always, and the Portuguese aren't really playing badly. I would say, though, for the France game, they will need more tactical discipline and to play a bit deeper because they can't leave that much space in behind with Mbappe, Dembele and Thuram on the field. Even though France themselves haven't hit top gear yet.
