    That's the reason I love this sport no matter how long you play no matter how good you are you can always learn more...and in this sport you aren't playing someone else you are playing yourself...the will to be better the desire to do good the commitment to the sport all come together and create a well rounded sport that is inexpensive and highly asccesable (in my state)...thank you so much David feldberg lots of repetition between this and one of your other videos but still a lot of good points

    So much good info here. It could take you years to figure out all this stuff on your own. Headwind advice is spot on. Someone told me a long time ago to throw stable and throw hard into a headwind. (Most people will still tell you to do it) Listen to Dave! Throw smooth keep the nose flat and maybe stable up slightly but don't expect to get big D by overpowering an over stable disc it's not gonna happen. (At least in my experience)

  • @Chris.Davies

    When he gets to 6:00, Dave really gives us the good stuff. I have a driving clinic of his on my PC, but never published it at his request - in this video he covers some of the things he taught us here in New Zealand, and so it is truly great to see this information finally available to the playing public.
    However, viewers need to skip to the 6:00-minute mark to avoid having to listen to... um... untrue things. I love Dave as a player, and respect his talent and ability immensely -- and Dave is the greatest teacher of disc golf of all time, but he does not understand aerodynamic lift, and everything leading up to the 6:00-minute mark should be ignored.
    The real reason domed discs have better glide is that the distance over the top surface is longer than for the same disc with a flat top, and thus the air must accelerate more in order to rejoin the air it separated from at the leading edge. More acceleration and faster air means lower pressure in the acceleration zone, and hence more lift. And because the Glide Ratio of a wing is the Lift divided by the Drag, increasing lift a lot, while only increasing frontal drag slightly results in a disc with greater glide. But there is a point at which the extra drag of a progressively taller dome will negate the advantage of a dome.
    A disc never deforms in flight as a disc never experiences a wing loading which could get close to warping the plastic, nor does lift generate enough force to warp a disc in any way, in flight. Wing Loading on a golf disc never gets much above 0.5 grams per square centimetre; the weight of a feather. Any force which has sufficient energy to warp a disc in flight will result in the disc staying the same shape, but performing extremely radical changes in the flight path.

    • @endermetal
      @endermetal Před 6 lety +1

      Yeah, the physics he used to describe the disc flight seemed a little off to me, but I'm by no means a physics guy. I absolutely agree though that his insights into the biomechanics of the throw and general knowledge of disc golf is unparalleled.

    • @nikojarvela100
      @nikojarvela100 Před 6 lety +3

      I'm sorry but your explanation is also incorrect. You suggest that air separated at the leading edge must rejoin at the trailing edge. This is the most common misconception people have. It is true that more domey disc is getting more glide because it is generating more lift. From this video you can learn how wing actually works: czcams.com/video/w78JT6azrZU/video.html

    • @Postermaestro
      @Postermaestro Před 3 lety

      why should the air "rejoin" at the end of the disc? (it doesn't)

    This was my first season playing dolf (my own term). I think I saw this clinic in the first month I started playing and, yes, I think it helped - but I didn't have the context to use your info well. Now, watching it again (the second L), a lot more of Dave's wisdom means so much more. I only hope that I haven't ingrained many bad habits in these last few months that need to be undone. I think if I could get a few lessons with Dave, it would really click well because I think we both have the same mental images and learning styles. Here's to starting something new after 50. The energy level and strength may not be there anymore, but the enthusiasm for learning and living sure is.

    Love Dave's clinics, gives a great perspective on the science behind shots. However, Dave does have a different pull thru than pros like lizotte, mcbeth, eagle etc on a basic straight/hyzer flip shot. He pulls through right below his belly button, whereas the big throwers pull through almost through their pec muscles. He also doesn't get his elbow bent to 90s degrees. Its almost like 60 or 55 degrees.

    • @eskelinensami
      @eskelinensami Před 5 lety

      You are correct. Dave has a so called swedish style technique. Not so common these days. Most pros today pull their disc near their chest creating a power pocket to maximize distance. Although you can throw far with both techniques, I think the bent arm has an advantage distance wise.

    Please dear lord come to Charlotte and teach! Went from throwing 7 days a week outside and now work and season only allow a couple days and it’s horrible. I would greatly love to have a quality learning experience on a couple of those days instead of struggling to maintain so many bad habits.

    "You will get much worse before you get better" That is a key piece to take away from all of this. I know my form isn't perfect and I am missing a few key parts but I have such a hard time stick to it since I feel like my release is horrible and I can feel the disc traveling further but felt clunky. Hoping when I play over the winter break to try out this when I am just throwing casually.

  • @caseysmith544
    @caseysmith544 Před 6 lety

    I find that high dome discs take more power to throw then low dome discs due to wind resistance so I use low dome disc for driving and fairway for a lower power thrower, notice I did not say a true flat topped disc as those have no glide at all, I use these as the more domed disc needs more power so it will be more over stable then a Low domed disc. I do use more of this throw that Dave talks about as I have looked at how the pros do these types of shots. Simon Lizotte is being one I have looked at most as he is a smaller male pro compared to the others and I am 100% sure I am even smaller then him.

    Ive seen a good amount of Feldberg instructional videos showing how to throw off of the tee with the pull thru, which is standard teaching for a disc golf drive. Just watched actual video of him in a tournament a few years ago, and when he throws off the tee he doesnt pull thru. He brings his arm forward in an arc shape, like throwing a frisbee at the beach. Whats up with that? Did he used to pull thru and cant now b/c of an injury or something?

    At 24:00 Dave advises to keep your eyes down, near your release point. This obviously works for him...
    But, watch many other top pros in slow motion. Paul McBeth, who has excellent flexibility, frequently keeps his eyes on the target, down the fairway.

Though this seems like splitting hairs, I don't believe that Dave has completed any defined graduate level program at an accredited university. It annoys me that he continuously says that he has an official Master's degree.
