  • Two men and a woman have been killed as the remnants of Hurricane Ophelia hit the British Isles.
    As hurricane-force gusts battered the Republic of Ireland, the woman and one man died in separate incidents when trees fell on their cars.
    The other man died in a chainsaw accident while attempting to remove a tree felled by the storm.

      The Irish government does not recognize this term because it is a term England labelled us when you still thought you owned us. You used the same excuse for nominating Saoirse Ronan as best "British" actress years ago. We are Ireland, an Irish isle. Your media does not possess us, neither do you. We never had any say in that and we don't recognize that.

    • @AoifeL93
      @AoifeL93 Před 6 lety +2

      'British' isles is a term chosen by the Brits and implies that the islands within it are 'British'. It took us 800 years and countless lives to earn the right not to be 'British'- therefore the term is inaccurate and should not be used. No self-respecting Irish person should ever accept or believe that we're part of the British isles- shame on you.

    • @cfarrell02
      @cfarrell02 Před 6 lety +1

      I don't think you need to bring politics into this, if you have a problem with the BBC using the term British Isles then that's your business. Call the islands what you want, Ireland and Great Britain or The British Isles, It's a geographical term. I also do not personally use the term "British Isles" but have no issue with it, I take no shame in accepting that this term is used by some. Please don't bring unwanted and unnecessary politics into a simple discussion on an ex-hurricane that has claimed 3 lives. Thank You

    • @AoifeL93
      @AoifeL93 Před 6 lety +1

      Oh wait this was a discussion on the hurricane? Sorry, fairly sure if you look at the comment thread you'll see that this discussion has absolutely nothing to do with the hurricane and is only to do with the use of the term 'British isles'. It's not political to say that the term literally means British islands, and that as a republic and no longer part of Britain, Ireland is not a British island. That's a fact. Trying to switch over to the hurricane and pull a guilt trip because you have no argument is just sad.
