    A Bentley would allow comparison with the original Aston Dad Car and compare the original James Bond car with the current one. Plus you could do Top Gear tests to test how smooth the ride is by seeing if water spills, test the sound inside and out etc.

    The 159 3.2 is a 4WD rather than FWD, so that might make it appeal to Ben a bit more, but yeah, modern Alfa's promise the world and deliver a Fiat chassis... That 300C looks so unashamedly American, I kind of wanted it...
    Two I'm surprised didn't get a mention; the S5, which is a 2+2 with that 4.2l V8 and the BMW 645/650i. £10k will get you very nice, well kept examples of either, although they bottom out below £5k, so maybe candidates for that price point (perhaps not recommended as they'll likely be money-sinks).
    The BMW has an engine with a few flaws. It won't nuke itself, but they are expensive, labour intense fixes (Deferred/corner-cut maintenance are the main culprits), although my 650i is a well-kept example and has been an absolute joy.
    Congrats on the Sponsorship Ben, you know you're part of the Automotive CZcams World proper when CarVertical come calling 👍

    Lots of great cars in that price range for sure, for something a bit left field but rare and super under the radar, VW Passat R36 preferably in estate form for that cavernous boot! Yes its not the most sporty to drive for sure, heavy and only comes with the DSG 6 speed but with a 3.6 VR6 with just shy of 300bhp making a fantastic sound track, surely worth a look? I'm not biased or anything................

    I've got a good trade down for this, a BMW 650i or even a 630i. Had the 630i 6 years now (08 M6 facelift), got it when I was 21 for travelling from the southwest of England to north germany for work as an upgrade from my 116i. Cheap to insure (under £500 quid always even today still paying £430), fast with 272hp and 1700kg, not bad MPG (averaged 17-19mpg in Germany because autobahn) and nowadays I get a more modest 27mpg in the UK. Paid £8.5k for it and it's worth about £4k now, no intention on selling it. Never had a major issue, Bi yearly big service, 110k miles now. Biggest spends were new radiator, brakes and discs.

    The Alfa 159 3.2 V6 was mostly 4wd.
    And what you want in a 159 is a 3.2, 4wd, Manual, TI.
    TI is the sportier trim level, a bit more sporty bodykit, bigger wheels, sports seats, lower suspension.
    Audi S6 & S8 with the V10 should be available for under 10 000.
    But not sure about the condition.
    And Mercedes CL500 should be easy to find.

Having looked at my options, the 5.4l supercharged M113 coupled with the 5gTronic is the combo that seems to be less hassle than the 63 AMGs that replaced it. I replaced my TVR when my little girl arrived with a F31 330d M Sport with all the bits on it. It's a brilliant thing, pretty much perfect. Fast, handles, comfy, fairly cheap to run. Doesn't stop me constantly looking at exactly this type of what if scenario though. Really looking forward to seeing which way you go. Quattroporte is my bravepill car. May be an CLS Shooting Brake AMG 55...
    I wouldn't touch a V6 159/Brera though. Pretty things they are, but from plenty of experience in them they are heavy, dull, and out classed. Its a GM V6 not a Busso, sounds rubbish, drinks, and slow, so whats the point? £5k GT Coupe V6 though, they're on my AT saved search list. 😂

    @jrgenlund1300 Před 18 dny

    I know it's not a V8, but do consider the Audi S4/S5 B8 generation with the 3 liter supercharged engine - it sounds angrier than a V8, and you get a touch of supercharger whine. You might even find one in your beloved Dadcar blue. The pre-facelifts may be available with a manual gearbox - but if going for an automatic, the facelifted ones should be a lot more reliable.

Its was as regal as it was majestic to drive .you felt a cut of shorts when you drove it . I don't think I've ever driven something that felt as special as the Bentley. Just remember if at 15 k that's a cheap car ,only thing is when it needs work and it will its still a hand built fully bespoke car .and so will cost a small penny to fix .plus the road tax may now be eye watering. In the Alfa 159 they did not built the Busso V6 anymore (the one with the chromed intakes you see in GTV, 155, 156, 147, 166 etc.), rather a General Motors sourced V6 with similar displacement. It is more advanced and efficient, but less rev-hungry and more weighty, so Alfisti definitely prefer the italian built Busso .

Id still go R36 Passat for a semi sensible choice 👍
