- Major Anders Lassen, a danish officer in the british SBS during WW2. He earned three Milictary Cross's and one Victoria Cross.

At the gable of Sct. Peders chapel - right next to Præstø inlet, in the shadows of the big beechwoods,
we have raised a memorial stone. Every spring, the wild swans return to here, and here has he gone fishing and hunted. Summer and winter, in all kinds of weather.
He performed he's manhood-deeds long away from here, in foreign countries. But I think that when he's thought's searched home, they returned, like the wild swans; back to this fresh danish beach, where he as a boy had been so happy.
The decorations, that has been part of him after he's death. Have we recieved with great gratitude. Although all awards in the World, will never relieve the sorrow over the loss of a beloved son. But when I stand at the memorial-stone and see the sun glint over the sea, and feel the winds whistling in the big beechwoods'. Then is it, like I could allmost hear Anders' say:
"I have done what I could mom, yet you are not happy." Then I feel that I owe him, not only my gratefullness, but also being happy, that in this short time he walked here on Earth, he was a brave warrior for he's country, and a good and loving son.
He died at the front, at age of 24. Only a month before the end of the war.
Sadly this week my wife’s grandfather passed away. He fought with anders lassen right through the war and was on the same raid when he was killed, he always said what an amazing soldier anders was and how hard they always brought the fight to the Germans. These men are really true heroes
May he rest in peace. What was his name ?
Truely the most remarkable individual of the whole conflict. I won't add RIP - Anders would not know how to do that. What a wonderful man . Be proud all you Danes.
A very grateful Englishman.
I read the book titled “The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare” by Damien Lewis about Churchill’s secret warriors setting Europe, the Channel Islands, West Africa and the Aegean Greek Islands aflame and giving birth to the modern Black Ops Special Forces. It is an excellent book outlining the Danish Anders Lassen’s four years as a soldier in WW2. He was an incredible and brave highly decorated major, a killing machine and an excellent leader. His death was, in my opinion, the result of an oversight by himself trusting the German machine gun position with the white flag. In my opinion he could have been more careful but he might have wanted to die, at least subconsciously. I highly recommend the book.
Major Lassen should be MUCH wider known. I heard about him in the Audible book Churchill's Secret Warriors
- The Explosive True Story of the Special Forces Desperadoes of WWII
By: Damien Lewis. An AMAZING group of men and Maj Lassen's exploits are incredible.
Thank you and your colleagues. I wish you were all around now. The world would be a better place.
His mother wrote a book about his life after the war, it was called "Anders Lassen Sømand og Soldat". I read it in 1950 and it was a hearthwarming story about his upbringing and his life in general. I am afraid that it never was translated into english. Hilsen Niels Winkel late of Thyborøn
There’s certainly a few operations missing as well. What a hero
My Great Uncle was Sergeant Sean O'Reilly from the Irish Patrol. They served together until he was wounded on the same day Lassen was killed.
A brave soldier who saw nothing in putting his life at risk for what he believed in. Lest we forget.
Update: A movie about Anders Lassen is under way, the instructor is behind to episodes of BOB.
So quality is expected.
And many other things, but today I came across the name Major Anders Lassen, and watched this video about him, a man who fought against evil, and deported so much courage, that I am quite touched by his victim, while proud to He was found in Denmark.
May your memory be eternal, and thanks for your struggle and death gave me freedom.
THIS IS THE REST OF BELOW
Saw his name on a memorial stone in a NATO channel interview re Special forces exercise in Denmark. Googled his name and found this bio.
A brave and proud Dane. We will remember him.
Im not a 100% sure, But I recall having read that Lassen actually killed a german using an arrow. However, Lassen never where in Dunkirk, but he and the SBS raided some of the channel islands during the first year of the war.
I think that was 'Mad' Jack Churchill and he did indeed kill a Nazi with a longbow. He also captured 42 Nazis single handed and usually went into battle leading from the front while either brandishing a sword or playing the bagpipes!
Maj. Anders Lassen R.I.P
I had as a teenager, reading about Flame and Citron, about the resistance, has heard the Danish soldiers talk about their experiences in battle against the Germans by the Danish border in Jutland in 1940, the British Mosquito bomber which bombed Shell House which sat Danish resistance fighters captured by Gestapo, Gestapo on executions of resistance fighters in Ryvangs. Countinues see belov
From a PROUD dane. Rest In Peace.
A great hero!
I believe the book was translated into English. Written by Suzanne Lassen in 1949, it was translated in 1965 by Inge Hack and published by Frederick Muller Ltd (London). The English version is called "Anders Lassen VC"
He was the only non-commenwelth soldier during WW-II to recive VC and there is allmost no-one else ever to have recived both VC and MC .... but he did ... and made him one of the 10 highest decorated soldiers in WW-II
@PhilipDK5800 Blev filmen droppet???
Gad godt at have mødt ham!
It is John ''Mad Jack'' Churchill you are thinking about, a British Commando who went to war with sword, bow and arrow.
Pis!
Due to youtube quality, it may be hard to read the smaller text down below.
It's the main theme for the movie "Letters from Iwo Jima" :-)
Yderst betagende.
I find it very sad that a great Danish warhero get killed in action by the Germans on 9th April - 9th April is the day Denmark got occupied by the Germans in 1940.
Truely - the 9th April is one of the worst days in Danish history
what's the name of the music used?
also, inspirational guy.
The consummate hero. Whenever I hear moaning youth of today I just think of this relatively young man who achieved so much, much more than anyone could envisage. He is Captain Hurricane of the Victor comic hero.
missed most of Andy's career out sadly
hvornår planlægger de at udgive den?
HVAD!!!!!!!!!!!!! LINK!
A webinar on Anders Lassen: czcams.com/video/DpkezknN59Q/video.html
well then im one of them X-D
Det er korrekt ja
Christian Peder Kryssing was another Danish officer who fought hard ( - but on "the wrong side") and as SS-Brigadeführer reached the highest Waffen-SS rank of any non-German. Far more Danes fought in a Nazi uniform than in an Allied uniform during the war.
And your point is?
gary11able Let me help you out here. My point is: there's no reason as a Dane to get all slobby about this "hero" - the Danes mainly fought on the Nazi side during the war. Denmark was not accepted as an Allied nation before 1943.
MrCapKorzeniowski .I think similar can be said of the Dutch too .....more French fought defending Berlin than taking it..
mmmbeachlover True, the government building - the Reichtag in Berlin was defended fiercely by French SS in 1945.
+MrCapKorzeniowski - just because there were treacherous and stupid Danes - as well as treacherous and stupid people from all countries incl yours, whatever is is? - gives you no right to mock Anders Lassen!
He was a true HERO!
And the stupid remarks of a very rude person like you can't tarnish his legacy.
I'm proud to be the same nationality as Anders Lassen.
