I think Isaac would love "The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet", it's a really wholesome scifi book with a HUGE amount of diversity in gender, species, races, sexuality, and life experiences, and is a really cute read! I'm reading its standalone sequel at the moment and that is also amazing!

I truly appreciate all your knowledge, perspective, time and effort for this video. In the current stage (season 1 of Heartstopper), Isaac barely speaks and we know absolutely nothing about him (I seriously hope they will expand him in the series to come). The next day my mom and I went to goodwill and I found a book called Black and White and the premise sounded exactly like Naughts and Crosses so I picked it up only to realize itâs the same book! So Iâm interested in reading it
My recommendation for Issac is Virginia Woolfâs novel Orlando itâs spans around 300 year where a man wants to write a book but cannot do it however one day wakes up a woman and can write the book showing the woman and it is dedicated to Vita Sackville-West who was supposedly Woolfs lover ( a lesbian affair as Woolf was of course married to a man to have a solid place in society) may have also been transgender. It has that time traveler aspect (extended lifetime) and I would see him read it and recommend it to Elle

It's actually the original size of the popular novel which is why most antique books and classics are that size. During the later half of the 20th century, reading was on a downturn and the publishing industry was coming up with ways to reinvigorate reading. They did this by changing book size (to what we now know as the Trade Paperback) in order to separate modern novels from the ones of the past. We're now used to the Trade Paperback size because it did indeed become popular!

Hey, new to to your channel and rly loved this review of Isaac's reading - was particularly interested in the Gender Explorers review. I have a similar experience and at times feel uncomfortable identifying as a woman although I was assigned female at birth. However I feel that my experience in a female body makes me have this shared solidarity with all others with a female body and at times this is powerful for me, but other times I recoil at being labelled as a "woman" and prefer to think of myself as genderless/nonbinary. I still really prefer to use she/her pronouns nonetheless.
Love that they connected the books, like ttw and quantum mechanics.

she/her although similarly to you, I'm AFAB but don't really love being thought of or referred to as a ~woman~. And I'm not really that feminine either, like I was considered very much a tomboy as a child. But I'm still ok with she/her and while I'm not opposed to being called they/them, I still don't find it preferable for some reason. Also internally I think of myself as a demigirl sometimes but that's kind of just for me and I don't really tell people that in my day to day life. That's where I'm at now anyway, lol. Also since Isaac is aroace, I would like to recommend him "Ace: What Asexuality Reveals About Desire, Society, and the Meaning of Sex" by Angela Chen. I've started this book but haven't finished it yet but it talks all about asexuality and discusses what sexual attraction is or is not and has diverse perspectives from people under the ace umbrella. In addition to Loveless, I think this is a book that would help him learn and feel more comfortable and confident in who he is. And idk but, it may be really sweet to see another character in the series recommend this book (or Loveless) to him, especially if he reaches out and confides in others about how he is questioning or exploring his own sexuality.

There are some good books about quantum mechanics - I really enjoyed How To Teach Quantum Physics To Your Dog, for a less overwhelming introduction to it haha

My theory is that Isaac mostly just reads whatever he can get his hands on - his parent's bookshelf, school library, bookshops and secondhand, or just left behind on the bus. Some of his choices are obviously intentional, but I think the others were just there!
I love this video, it's so in-depth and your insights are fascinating! I'm so looking forward to season 2 of Heartstopper and hopefully seeing more exploration of aro-ace king Isaac's perspective. If you're looking for murder-mystery novels for your future guess-the-ending-before-the-detective video, I'd highly recommend the "Rivers of London" series by Ben Aaronovitch if you haven't read them already. The crime-solving is very in-depth and methodical, the worldbuilding is top-notch, and the protagonist is a great narrator.

This might not be related to the video content itself BUT i'm at my first year in college, studying Biology . I was so confused these past days with my own decision, cus i do love languages, and reading and understanding the constructions of a lot of things around this. You just made me feel at home with this video, like i could really enjoy my college experience much more than i'm doing right nowđąđąđą I'm really thinking about changing to language studies, as for portuguese language (my mother language) or english too. And just for info, i'm from a city in Amazonas, Brazil. I always wanted to be a teacher, but soon had find that i could relate this dream within Biology studies. Also, dealing with my mental health during the first semester was really a process. Right now i'm at my third period at college, doing a project about afforestation, happy with my own discoverys and journey. I do really hope that everyone that read my late opinion and the new one understand just one thing: there's always time and u own yours!! Even if i suddenly change the route, or decide to keep going, time is necessary to be respected. If i had jumped out of college to another course, can't say what could have happened. Well first of all, I absolutely love this video! you put so much work in and it was so fun to watch. I'll definetly pick up some of the books. Secondly, as a person with a B.Sc. in Physics: can confirm noone actually understands quantum physics ^^' I'm taking a class on applied quantum mechanics right now but missed a course I should probably have taken before that and it's a real struggle (but for nearly everyone there tbh). And lastly, what you said about gender really resonated with me. I've been thinking it over for a while now and am more and more drifting towards just trying out she/they or they/them for a while to see how they fit.
Ok, as a lifelong Pride and Prejudice lover, hear me out Joel, if you're gonna watch an adaptation, watch the 90s BBC one with Jennifer Ehle and Colin Firth. It's longer, but truer to the book and time period! TOTALLY worth the time investment.

Hey, new to to your channel and rly loved this review of Isaac's reading - was particularly interested in the Gender Explorers review. I have a similar experience and at times feel uncomfortable identifying as a woman although I was assigned female at birth. However I feel that my experience in a female body makes me have this shared solidarity with all others with a female body and at times this is powerful for me, but other times I recoil at being labelled as a "woman" and prefer to think of myself as genderless/nonbinary. I still really prefer to use she/her pronouns nonetheless.
Love that they connected the books, like ttw and quantum mechanics.

she/her although similarly to you, I'm AFAB but don't really love being thought of or referred to as a ~woman~. And I'm not really that feminine either, like I was considered very much a tomboy as a child. But I'm still ok with she/her and while I'm not opposed to being called they/them, I still don't find it preferable for some reason. Also internally I think of myself as a demigirl sometimes but that's kind of just for me and I don't really tell people that in my day to day life. That's where I'm at now anyway, lol.
Also since Isaac is aroace, I would like to recommend him "Ace: What Asexuality Reveals About Desire, Society, and the Meaning of Sex" by Angela Chen. I've started this book but haven't finished it yet but it talks all about asexuality and discusses what sexual attraction is or is not and has diverse perspectives from people under the ace umbrella. In addition to Loveless, I think this is a book that would help him learn and feel more comfortable and confident in who he is. And idk but, it may be really sweet to see another character in the series recommend this book (or Loveless) to him, especially if he reaches out and confides in others about how he is questioning or exploring his own sexuality.

There are some good books about quantum mechanics - I really enjoyed How To Teach Quantum Physics To Your Dog, for a less overwhelming introduction to it haha

My theory is that Isaac mostly just reads whatever he can get his hands on - his parent's bookshelf, school library, bookshops and secondhand, or just left behind on the bus. Some of his choices are obviously intentional, but I think the others were just there!

If you're looking for murder-mystery novels for your future guess-the-ending-before-the-detective video, I'd highly recommend the "Rivers of London" series by Ben Aaronovitch if you haven't read them already. The crime-solving is very in-depth and methodical, the worldbuilding is top-notch, and the protagonist is a great narrator.

I haven't gotten the chance to watch or read Heartstopper yet but I've been so excited to dive into it from all I've heard and the clips I've seen. This might not be related to the video content itself BUT i'm at my first year in college, studying Biology . I was so confused these past days with my own decision, cus i do love languages, and reading and understanding the constructions of a lot of things around this. You just made me feel at home with this video, like i could really enjoy my college experience much more than i'm doing right nowđąđąđą I'm really thinking about changing to language studies, as for portuguese language (my mother language) or english too. @@blueisanidiot4358 Hii! so, i decided i would stay at the Bio course!! Even though i do love languages and all, there's new things in biology that really catch my love and attention. And just for info, i'm from a city in Amazonas, Brazil. I always wanted to be a teacher, but soon had find that i could relate this dream within Biology studies. Also, dealing with my mental health during the first semester was really a process. Right now i'm at my third period at college, doing a project about afforestation, happy with my own discoverys and journey. I do really hope that everyone that read my late opinion and the new one understand just one thing: there's always time and u own yours!! Even if i suddenly change the route, or decide to keep going, time is necessary to be respected. If i had jumped out of college to another course, can't say what could have happened. But i'm enjoying my time right now, enganging in studies that also matters for me and this amazing place i liveđ„°

Well first of all, I absolutely love this video! you put so much work in and it was so fun to watch. I'll definetly pick up some of the books.
Secondly, as a person with a B.Sc. in Physics: can confirm noone actually understands quantum physics ^^' I'm taking a class on applied quantum mechanics right now but missed a course I should probably have taken before that and it's a real struggle (but for nearly everyone there tbh).
And lastly, what you said about gender really resonated with me. I've been thinking it over for a while now and am more and more drifting towards just trying out she/they or they/them for a while to see how they fit.

Ok, as a lifelong Pride and Prejudice lover, hear me out Joel, if you're gonna watch an adaptation, watch the 90s BBC one with Jennifer Ehle and Colin Firth. It's longer, but truer to the book and time period! TOTALLY worth the time investment.
