The Who was just so phenomenally good, especially live.
live at Leeds is 1 of the best live albums ever
Their 1970 LIVE AT LEEDS album is IMHO the greatest live album ever recorded. Well worth checking out.
Bought the album a year or two after it came out, which has maybe 7 or 8 songs on it. Then, maybe in the late 90's I came across a cd that had the whole Leeds concert- the recording is incredible, especially given the limited technology for it, back then.
@REMMY MAFIA It's incredible isn't it. The sound is phenomenal. I can't recall hearing any live recordings of that era - or even later - sounding anywhere near as good as LAL.
The bonus is the playing is every bit as good as the sound. Best live album ever. IMHO.
That’s the Live At Leeds album version dubbed over footage from The Who’s 1970 Isle of Wight show. But still, it’s the mighty Who, best live band ever. Try their Young Man Blues from the same Isle of Wight film 🎸
Thank you! I knew I was watching Isle, but the title says Leeds. My brain couldn't wrap around what was wrong and why the pair just didn't mesh.
There probably wasn't enough room in the LEEDS hall for video of the day. It was originally a tram station and only had a capacity of 5k.
Greatest live rock band on the planet, watch "Young Man Blues" from this Isle of Wight 1970 footage or Sparks from Woodstock `69 or even "A Quick One" Stones circus 1968.
Between those 3 shows and Leeds, I enjoy Leeds the most and Isle of Wight the least. The other good one available to see on youtube is the London Coliseum Dec. '69.
John, the "GO TO" must song on Live at Leeds is
My Generation.
SPOT ON!!
At their peak, they were definitely the highest energy band I've ever seen either.
Entwhistle's bass is insane !!
Greatest rock band ever....especially live
Exactly!
Greatest Rock Band Ever
This video is a combo of two shows, the audio "may" be from the Live At Leeds University show, but the video portion is from The WHO's appearance at the Isle Of Wight Festival in 1970. Easy to identify because of Bassist John Entwistle's skeleton outfit, which you noted. But, since there is no video from the Leeds show, this is what we get.
I wish Keith had a dedicated camera for every performance 🔥❤🔥
What were their managers thinking? The greatest live band in the world should have hundreds of hours of high-quality video. The best videos of the Who I've seen are Tanglewood, Rock and Roll Circus, Isle of White, and maybe Woodstock. Every Who concert should have been filmed. Especially, Live at Leeds.
The Bus used to go overland from London to India taking six weeks.
Top 3 Greatest live albums ever.....
The Who live was unbelievable.
i bought this Live at Leeds album in high school...wore that damn thing out! Magic Bus not my fave tune but that album was a full frontal assault on your senses that melted your face and you were happy and better for it, lol...
I recommend the song Heaven and Hell from Live at Leeds !
Best rock band of all time..iv seen them about 10 12 times 3times be with Keith Moon
The ending of this is absolutely cataclysmic, right up there with zeppelin/ to me, entwistle s bass here the best ever recorded
The Who kicks major ass.
The Who groovin' on the Bo Diddley beat. The best!!!
1970! One of the best live concerts ever! Hendrix, the Who, Jethro Tull, The Moody Blues, Taste (Rory Gallagher) and the Free to name a few. This was synched or overdubbed for some reason. Not typical.
OMG Dude LOVE It !!!!!!!I'm 64 yrs Old...The Who & Rush were My FAV bands growing up ( seen 57 Bands in Concert Lots more than once & met Lots by making stage clothes or friends in bands.. One BEST !!1982- 1983 Before Cyndi Lauper was known... got to sit in studio when friend Rob Hyman.(made clothes for their band The Hooters) was recording Time after Time with her was Slayed when the LP won her Best New Artist Grammy in 85.. ...got to see Rush 1st time in 74?75?...Was Supposed to see The Who in 1978...had tickets but concert cancelled because Moon died...met Now ...Hubby ( both in our 50's then & bonded o the Who & Magic Bus his FAV song) && We Got tickets for concert that was postponed twice..1st Roger had operation & then John Entwisle died (Slayed me...I'm a Bass Girl)...Good thing. held on to tickets..We Got Upgrade 3rd row Center & ( good or bad ) sat next to "20" something kid who did same...he'd bought tickets for his Dad & he'd passed before the concert finally happened..sang 1/2 the concert with kid...THANKS for a Memory & Hope you don't mind the Overshare !!
Around the end of this song Keith Moon breaks his left foot bass drum. Pete plays a slow guitar while they fix that drum. Minutes later Keith comes back in hard and that's when the music starts again. Must watch
The Who has been my favorite band since childhood
The serial killer boiler suit really adds something
Best band ever.No substitute
Hilarious, comparing slipknot to the mighty Who it`s not even close my friend.
Lol. Theres a vast library out there!! Lol. Have fun. 420
Surprised that Roger didn't stick with the solid-white, long-fringed vest like he wore at Woodstock! Keith Moon striving to go bonkers like Led Zepp's Bonzo! And Pete doing his propeller arm-spin string strokes to perfection. What was John E's gimmick? Have not paid that much attention to The Who over their many, many years of performances.
The audio here is from Live at Leeds and the video is from Isle of Wight.
Would love to hear more....hahhaha...that intro rocks !!!!
MOONIE!!!
Amen, brother🔥
The Who is epic! They also created the first rock opera musical ever: "Tommy" (1969). Worth to check it out!
Ok, it's a whole movie and too much for a reaction - for sure -, but worth to check it out anyway!
Cast of the movie is, beside The Who members:
Tina Turner, Elton John, Richie Havens, Eric Clapton, Jack Nicholson, Oliver Reed, (the amazing great) Ann-Magret, Robter Powell, Arthur Brown, Kenn Russel, etc.
ALL combined in ONE musical movie with epic tracks, lyrics and a great story about "Tommy".
Maybe react to single music "scenes" from the movie!? o_O It's quite an old movie, though ... the movie is from 1975 ... not sure if you are into those old movie stuff!? o_O
Whoa! finally someone doing the Live At leeds album.
Awesome!
If you like raw energy performances check out the MC5 live at Wayne State. Awesome stuff.
WHO/WHAT song is that at the very beginning of this video?? Rocks!!!!
That's just a quick intro song I made by myself! There's no full version unfortunately. Thanks though :)
Video isn't from the performance but lets you know what they were like live.
I didn't like any of The Who's early music like Magic Bus or My Generation or Can't Explain but by 1968-70 they turned them into Hard Rock, completely different & so much better
The music is from Live At Least but the video isn't.
I couldn't argue against this being labeled," The greatest live performance in rock history. Also my understanding of the Magic Bus is just his sexual union with his Baby
Video doesn't exist of their Live at Leeds Concert
Gotta do Led Zeppelin live,
Pictures of Lilly!
Here’s another very good version, I think about a year later. Longer, but the end is phenomenal. czcams.com/video/NEQbSHzj9FI/video.html
I believe the audio is genuine but not the video. Just sayin'.
