Amanda is better off without this "family". Not one of them will ever acknowledge the unforgivable betrayal their father/husband committed. They will not acknowledge that SHE, not him, is the victim here. That she was violated for 15 years by the person who was supposed to protect her. I hope she finds peace and happiness without them.

Mom chooses a child rapist over her daughter. How can she hear that tape and deny the obvious?
Simple answer is she was already aware long before this and just ignored it.
She chooses not to believe it. It is really disgusting to watch but she is in utter denial.

This Dr. Phill episode, specially watching this "mother's"' unkept, ignorant, calous, unemotional, ignorant appearance enraged me. The whole story shook me to the core!! Telling the grandmother defending her to be quiet and then telling her to be quiet so her brother could talk after she have been silenced for so long made me so mad. I do believe she was wrong letting her daughter around him but I also understand how scarey it can be thinking people are going to figure out what’s going on according to your actions.

Unfortunately, this kind of thing happens all too often to victims who come forward where blame is misplaced onto the victim. I'm glad Amanda had the fortitude to go through with pressing charges, waiting probably for years for the case to go to trial while under pressure from the family to drop the charges, going through extensive interviews and evidence gathering, then testifying in court of her most closely guarded and darkest secrets in gross detail to total strangers all in front of the guy who did these things to her, and then had her testimony picked apart and scrutinized like she was making it all up. It's possible, too, that her family testified for the defense, making the rift between Amanda and the rest of her family even wider. The jury was convinced of the guy's guilt, however, and now he can no longer hurt Amanda directly. The family may never move past their belief that Amanda was the one who turned their lives upside-down instead of ascribing guilt to the father--the actual responsible party. It's hard, but it looks like Amanda will need to go the rest of her life cut off from her family for the sake of her mental health and healing. She doesn't need people in her life who constantly scapegoat and emotionally/mentally abuse her.

The wife and kids know he done it, the evidence is irrefutable. They are mad at Amanda for exposing him. They all need help to accept whats happened and itll take a while. It is a truly horrible situation that HE has caused for them all.

The mother is so cold toward the daughter. Its as if she already knew. She's didn't care and she doesn't care for her daughter. She has manipulated her kids to believe her against her daughter so she can live in her own fairytale. Sad, I hope the abuse victim can move on and heal. Nobody in her family but her grandmother is acknowledging her pain. She has been abused her whole life, and they don't get it. God care for her heart and heal her.

No one is talking about how complex trauma works, including Dr. Phil. When the son talks about her face not changing to show compassion or emotion, why does no one inform him how trauma blunts affect? This girl was forced since childhood to accept the sexual relationship and the depth of that conditioning is heard in her struggle about letting go of it in the phone call. And yet Dr Phil is putting responsibility on HER to make it work with family members who are too lost in their own struggles to consider that her defensive/self-protective words and behaviors are understandable? Dr Phil has been out of practice too long and this was beyond unethical to make a spectacle of this family’s trauma with little to no skills and understanding of how to educate and intervene appropriately. Dr Phil was out of his depths here and lost my respect for him as he proved himself to be simply a showman.
The police were in on that phone call, so I think Amanda was acting on her end. Someone else mentioned her mother might be jealous of her, and that could be true, but her mother also has an act to grind with her own mother, Amanda’s grandmother. That was obvious, too.
The brother was upset about her not showing emotions? Dude, when you have had to live your life where your "father" had physically, mentally and emotionally abused you for a majority of your life, your not going to show any type of emotion. Sure, she was crying throughout the episode, but her face was dead because that was how she was taught to deal with it.
Otherwise, Amanda is better off without those *holes. They should be on their knees before her. But karma is a b*tch and all their friends are watching.

It never ceases to amaze me how families will stand behind a sexual predator and abuser. Been there done that and it perplexes me. Families have to realize they are revictimizing the child or adult of child abuse MANY times over by doing this.
