Hi, my ESL is in lock position. Do I need to have the software to reset it to unlock position. In your video you just pressed the two switches to reset it and then you only read out something with the software but dont write anything to the hardware? So is the software neccessary?
Hi , device depends if it s repairable or not , the device software will show if it s repairable or not , if it s repairable it will fix for u the nec mcu position the you need then to change the motor , if it s not repairable , device software will renew the ESL then you need MB device to program it . for more technical questions you can write to our technical support on their skype or email .
Thanks for the video, I am about to repair my esl currently the steering is in unlocked position, can I just remove the part and replace the motor without hocking it up to the laptop? Cuz I dont have the adapter nor the software. Thanks
Ashesh Patel I swapped the motors but unfortunately didnt worked, I guess It went into locked position, so now I will have to send it to be programed. Not sure why but I guess its because I installed the ESL while its in unlocked position, however, I removed the Car battery and reconnected it so when I put the Key it tried to unlock the steering ( I heard the ESL sound) then nothing happened.

Willi…seriously..I am a very basic guy when it comes to fixing cars…almost no skill at all. I have a 2013 Mercedes 350 GLK…and the ESL died. My Mercedes Dealer said it would be around $2000…and be prepared for it to fail again in another 3-4 years…because it is made in China to poor reliability parameters. I tried to get secondary Mercedes mechanics on Craigslist…nobody would touch it. I then said what the hell…I went right here on CZcams…and went in after the damn thing. Everything went off easier than I thought..including the instrument cluster and steering wheel…even loosening the steering column was easy…let’s say the whole thing took 1.5 hours.. I then went on eBay and asked to have an “ESL emulator” made…which costs about $300…and can be made just by sending them your spare key….they get it back in your hand in about 3-4 days…you then plug it in where the Old ESL clipped in….and start her up…and never worry about this thing again…(do not leave the old ESL in there un-engaged…as it could theoretically lock your steering wheel if you hit some bumpy roads…take the damn thing out and throw it in a lake. I have had mine in for about 3 years…and it starts like a champ…every time.. because there are no moving parts just circuit boards. Velcro the little unit jus under the dash..if you ever need to replace it…seriously..it’s the only way to go!

I can't get the screws/pins out of the case. What would happen if I drill them out? Can I put screws in afterward? Awesome info., thanks!
You can use star screwdriver
First try with number 5 then 6 and open the ESL.
