      Hi there, with this particular model if I fill in her smile lines, it will make her face look flat. It’s better to have some definition on the nasolabial folds so it can give the cheeks balancing.. often when smile lines are filled the mouth looks augmented. The goal here was to give her back her cheeks and still look very natural.

    Beautiful work! Do you ever use a microcannula on this area? I’m always so scared of hitting the infra orbital nerves and vessels! Can you offer any advise on that?❤️

    • @AsiaHankinsRN
      @AsiaHankinsRN  Před 5 lety +9

      I’ve always preferred needles for their precision. Precision is key to avoid complications and to provide the best results. I know cannulas are all the rage.. and I think cannulas could be good in areas like jawline.. but I prefer needles. For me, the pros and cons of needles out way the pros/cons of cannulas. Cannulas could be better for novice injectors..But even then a novice injector shouldn’t be injecting highly technical areas..
      Tip: 29g or smaller cannula will go through a vessel just as easy as a needle.
      There are so many ways to determine if you are in a vessel or on a nerve.. First of all it hurts like heck.. nerves will zing.. electrical zap.
      Vessels will burn like a bee sting if you go through it.. and if you are in a vessel it’s very painful.. Linear thread with retrograde injection over bolus..watch area, watch patient.. don’t dental block...You want the patient to be able to feel something extreme. take your time. 😀

    Can you please tell me as an injector how are you certain that you were avoiding the nerve bundle located in the cheek area. Are you doing any sort of mapping before hand? Thank you so much! I love your videos and all of your work!

    • @AsiaHankinsRN
      @AsiaHankinsRN  Před 5 lety +8

      Hi PD B, thank you! I do vessel mapping using an Accuvein400. It works pretty good, not perfect though. In the upper cheek area, below the orbital ridge, I avoid the periosteum due to the infraorbital foreman. I like fanning and cross hatching technique to reduce pressure from a bolus as well as looking better on final results. Also, when nerves are hit by a needle it sends an electrical zap..the patient will feel it.
      Side note; (A really great reason we don’t do dental blocks for numbing) only use topical numbing.. You want the patient to commmunicate any weird feelings.. excessive pain, electrical.. etc. Tomorrow we are filming an educational video on Dermal Filler Top 10 danger zones .. stay tuned. 😀😀

    • @AsiaHankinsRN
      @AsiaHankinsRN  Před 5 lety +1

      Hi Cristina, both Lyft and Defyne are great for volumizing. Defyne will attract more water than Lyft. Defyne typically lasts longer than Lyft. However, Defyne needs to be injected deeper than Lyft. If the volume loss is deep pick Defyne. If the volume loss is in the upper layers of the dermis, Lyft is great. I also like Lyft in areas like cheekbones, temples and hands.

      Hi there, I prefer needles for precision. Needles glide effortlessly under the skin, cannulas do not. A cannula is just a blunt tip needle. A conventional needle is shorter and allows direct deposit of filler. Some would say a cannula is safer, I would say safety depends on the experience of the injector. If you are anxious about pain, a needle is WAY less painful. Most importantly, seek out an experienced provider. They will take the time to discuss the best options and guide you.

I aspirate anytime I bolus but not every time I redirect the needle in a linear fashion in the dermis. Hi Kathryn, It’s because that’s just her natural anatomy.
      Nasal labial folds/smilelines get a bad rap.. Even though we all have them.. NLF’s are not a sign of aging.. ..The pharmaceutical companies tricked you into thinking they were... NLF’s help define our cheeks so our face has demension vs. looking flat. I rarely inject NLF’s because it doesn’t look natural. Thank you for the question, gives me a chance to share my process. 😄

    I love the way you work! I need this! Can you recommend some one in Washington state near Seattle ?

      Hi Theresa, I don’t know anyone specific in Seattle. If you are ever in California, my office is only 10 minutes from John Wayne Airport (SNA). A quick flight to come down is pretty easy. 😁

    Is the filler on bone or dermal(in the cheeks)

      The filler is in the upper and deeper malar fat pads. Not at periosteum.

    Whats the dysport for?

      Dysport is a wrinkle prevention (like Botox) Most common areas treated are between the eyebrows, forehead, crows feet.

    Does this work for men? And is it possible to do yourself? 🤔

      I have a few videos showing treatments on males. Check out my channel. I don’t recommend self injecting. I always recommend going to a qualified provider.

    Great technique!! I am an injector as well, not as experienced as you so I really appreciate your videos. My question is how do you get a 1.5 ml syringe of Restylane Defyne?? They only come in 1ml. Or are you using 3 syringes altogether?

      😁Thank you, it was a total of 3ml. 3-1ml syringes.
