- Video captured the moment young business owners were targeted in a racist rant by a neighbor in Altadena. The owners of Ka-Ibigan coffee cart had set up their business outside their home on Mount Curve Avenue after receiving permits to open up shop.
The shop serves drinks inspired by Filipino and Mexican fusion flavors. The cart was only open for a few days when on July 8, a male neighbor suddenly approached them and began yelling at the entrepreneurs in a racist rant.
KTLA's Sandra Mitchell reports on July 9, 2024.

He only apologized because he was publicly shamed. He still feels that way.
Definitely. He only picked on them because they're Asian. Had the ladies been white or black, he wouldn't say a word.
So does anyone else who publicly apologizes for any misdeeds.
sorry he got caught
😂
@@BajatheChickenMan not usually. I publicly apologized one time because I flipped someone off that I shouldn't have and so I went to our community Facebook page and wrote an apology and posted it. I don't think anyone had ever done that because people were really surprised (and happy).
If you have a problem with the Coffee Cart, yelling at the young women is not the way to solve it.
Ya like it or not, it is FREE SPEECH.
Neither is calling the police apparently.
Yea that’s true but some people are just stressed out and don’t know how to control their expressions or emotions so then this happens.
If i did that in my neighborhood id be shut down.
Yeah it’s really kind of ridiculous, who tf sets up shop on a residential street 🤦🏼♀️
i like my neighbors to setup food trucks in my neighborhood, so I don't have to drive anywhere to get food at cheaper prices
Ha! Food trucks around here charge as much as any brick and mortar restaurant. And of course, want tips on top of that.
@@AmandaTexas lower the prices or i m calling the cops
@@AmandaTexas I know right? Like, you don't pay for worker's comp, business insurance, office lease, or any taxes from the revenue because you only accept cash to avoid taxes.
One would think, ok, then why not pass on the savings to the customers?

Since when we’re food trucks ever cheap.
@@SlimJim-bw3ib Food trucks are a business, so why would you think they don't pay for worker's comp, business insurance, and taxes?
I need to hear the "racist rant". I am not hearing it.
Everybody in the comment section was so excited for the racist comments, but got disappointed.
I’m not excited to here it, it’s just wild to put a guy on news for his racist rant, then have no clips of him saying anything racial , and the witness didn’ quote anything racial …. What I want is proof .
Right? What was the racist part? Or was it just because he's white? I'm genuinely curious.
Not trying to defend the guy, as his outfit totally matches someone who would say something racist/goofy, or perhaps he really did and they just decided not to show it, or maybe he didn't, who knows. But at least the media could've clarified that in the story if that was the case, it's not that hard to add "comment was inappropriate so we won't show the actual video". The title is totally misleading, because neither the guy nor the women said anything about racial comments. Just another day of click baiting by the media in our country, they tend to make everything racial for no reason. Believe it or not, one time I saw two white guys arguing and they were calling each other racists. We are living in an interesting world.
@@rnav36 exactly, the media trying to make stupid comments "racist" 🙄 😒 we gotta know what was said nowadays

How do you get a permit to start a business selling coffee on a regular basis from your driveway in a residential district?
Yup! Would not want this in my neighborhood 🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯
@@rafael2661 I would and apparently, so do their patrons.
Yea that was interesting to me too.
And before anyone lacks the ability to think, just imagine if EVERYONE did this.
You're looking at traffic congestion in a residential neighborhood.
You can't pull out of your driveway, your kids can't play outside due to constatn traffic, lots of customers from all over making noise, etc etc.
Sure this ONE coffee shop, whatever. I personally woudln't mind.
But again, if you have an ounce of brain power, think about the POTENTIAL of what can happen if EVERYONE does it.

Not sure if they can operate in a residential area even with a permit, should be specific types of ocations that food trucks can setup in.

Are illegal 😂
Obviously you thought wrong since the police showed up and determined no crime was committed.
I live in a suburban area in Illinois and people are allowed to open businesses in their homes. A family down the street have a beauty salon they run out of their home.
I looked it up and it’s perfectly legal. Maybe that residential area is the same.
Lol so ice cream trucks never sold ice cream in your neighborhood? Think this through even though that’s extremely difficult for you.
Probably not this one. Since it's on wheels, it's probably the equivalent of an ice-cream truck.
That's what I thought too but the reporting shows they got a permit, watch the video.
So I mean whatever. If they go through the proper channels, what can you do.
It's similar to a food truck, and they're legal.

What's sad is how easily some people who have issues about one thing or another push their will on others. Live and let live. In America, we have zoning regulations designating areas exclusively for residential use. This likely has been one of them.
