    That is sick!!! My first proper bike ( aside from a brigs and stratton engined mini bike) was a 1977 XR 75. What a great bike!!! My dad was a diesel mechanic and had bunches of gas cans in the back of his truck.. I was careless one day and ran diesel full in the bike.. NEVER Quit. I went to a KX80 after that as I started racing.. Man.... I remember DG.. Again that bike is sick!

  • @bodeine454
    @bodeine454 Před 4 lety +2

    Believe it or not Susan Perkins' (Miss America 1978) sister Brenda taught me how to ride a motorcycle back in '77 on a XR 75 and about a couple years later Dad bought me a like new 1977 model from a friend of the family's in '79. It had two exhaust pipes with it, the stock quiet one and one similar to this one, loud and proud and the quiet pipe didn't stay on very long, lol.
    My best friend in Trenton, Ohio had a Yamaha 100 Enduro when I met him and I had the XR. I used to take mine over to his house and we'd ride his yard(they had 3 acres) and the fields around their property and we'd cut through the farm fields from time to time and go to Big T (similar to Tasty Freeze or Dairy Queen) and get Big T burgers and a fry and listen to the jute box. Those were the days, early 80s and us kids could get out and rip it up without much of a worry back then, I dearly miss it!

    Beautiful, I always lusted after one of these as a kid, but we never had the dough for toys like that. The only thing that is wrong with this bike, in my mind anyway, is that some kid is never going to be sitting in the saddle tearing it up like it was designed for, great bike thou, I love it.

    That's a really nice little XR,looks like a backyard Supercross track bike they used to race back in the 80's.Some of those guys would spend crazy amounts of money to build a XR just to race on backyard tracks.Theses where adults that were racing theses little bikes Not kids.Guess they were living their dream of racing Supercross.If only on backyard tracks.No kid is going to Appreciate how much time and money went into making this bike.Maybe some kids that had rich parents could afford to build them bikes like this but definitely Not your average family.This Special XR should be in a museum or some place special.

    That bike is trick. I like the way he changed the bottom of the frame where the footpegs mount. That was one of the down falls of the XR -75. If you rode hard they would end up bending downward. I never liked how the pegs mounted to the cases. The honda XR-75 is a bike that made a lot of kids happy.

    I had a 1975 model with the grey tank. Bored out and had a racing pipe on it. Everybody else had bigger motorcycles so I had to compensate with riding skills. Woundup breaking the frame right beneath the gas tank. Welded it back together and kept riding. I love two- Strokes but man what great times I had on that 1975 Honda xr75. My next motorcycle would be a 1976 Honda CR125 Elsinore.

      what a little beast the cr125 would seem after the xr 75! those early elisinores had that sudden on off powerband and quite a hit when on the pipe

    • @Drivehead103
      @Drivehead103 Před 3 lety

      @@skip741x3 yes indeed, drastic change in power delivery! I lived on a long dirt road across from a creek with very few houses and woods all around. One day I heard something like I had never heard before echoing loudly through the pine trees. I rushed to the front door to see what it was and somebody came by on a 1974 Honda CR125 and he was standing up on the foot pegs with his legs outstretched and the front wheel in the sky and shooting a rooster tail like I had never seen in my life. He was probably in fifth or sixth gear and disappeared out of sight standing on the wheel pegs and pulling the longest wheelie I had ever seen. I ran out to the road and it looked like it had been plowed for as far as I could see. And that was my first smell of castor oil. I waited right there because I knew the road was a dead end and he would turn around and come back by. He stopped and I discovered what a Honda Elsinore was. It was 1974 and I was 10 years old. I owned a Honda Z50 a and a CT trail bike 70. I felt like I had discovered something that nobody else knew existed. Bruce Lee and the Honda Elsinore ruled my world in 1974. Both represented explosive extreme power that I would enjoy the rest of my life. But discovering them at 10 years of age was beyond jaw-dropping. I had a Z50, trail bike 70, xr75 and finally the 1976 CR125. Later in life I had a chance to purchase a Honda xr250r at a great price only to have somebody steal it while I was getting flooded. I am now trying to get a 1986 Honda CR250 running. Sorry for the long winded story, just traveling back down memory lane and long hot summer walks, camping out in tree forts that we built, and swimming in blue holes, Creeks or whatever we can find.

    I tried starting mine but it wouldn't go. I drained the carb and tried starting it multiple times, couldn't get it to go. Mechanic told us it was just flooded he said to never use choke. Any advice?

      Take off cover to the magneto, crank engine slowly and watch the points open. You can slide a piece of sandpaper in through the holes, let points close on it, then pull.

      Yeah find a new mechanic because yours doesnt know what hes talking about. Carb is most likely dirty and clogged with old gas that turned to varnish.

    Love it! Sweet lil classic XR, I know Kap (like me);is a big dude, but why is it smoking like a cold 2-stroke? Is it the new motor build?
