- Making a nice leather work bag. In this leather craft video set out to make myself a nice leather bag with plenty of places for storage. The bag is made from chrome tan leather and measures 15” across. It features an interior partition which creates a space that can fit most modern laptop computers. The front of the partition has several pockets and places for storing paperwork, cards & ink pens. Across from the partition is an interior leather zipper pouch that can store small items. On the outside of the bag I designed some small pouches that are attached to the side gussets for extra storage, these have hidden magnetic snaps used for the closures. There is a single pocket located on the front of the bag and on each side of the pocket tuck-lock closures are used to secure the bag shut and provide easy opening and closing. The bag has a simple top grab handle and an adjustable shoulder strap for carrying. • Chrome Tan Premium Harvest Wheat 5-5.5 oz - 2.3mm (Used for most of the bag)
• Natural Vegetable Tanned Leather 1.5mm (Used for concealing closures & reinforcing straps)
• Chrome Free Black Pigskin Lining (Used for lining the shoulder pad)
Patterns/Marking
• 48” & 72” Swanson brand metal rulers
• Steel cork backed rulers
• TechTools brand T-square
• Various ¼” plywood patterns with marking holes (for marking out the bag pieces)
• Anvil (for weight)
• Scratch Awl (For marking)
• Ink Pen
• Craftool Wing Dividers (For laying out stitching lines)
• Multi circle template
• Custom brass logo stamp
• ¾” ovel die punch
• Bone folder
• Craftool English point template
Cutting:
• Wooden leather strap cutter
• Huskey brand box cutter
• X-Acto knife
• Straight edge skiving knife
• Steel half round punches (For strap ends)
• Steel quarter round punch (for rounding corners)
• ¾” oblong die cutter (for D-ring & buckle strap attachments)
• Steel hole punches (for rivets and adjustment holes)
• Rotary hole punch (for cover strap adjustment holes)
• V-Gouge tool (For creating folding grooves)
• 1/8” lacing chisel (for setting closure hardware)
• Odwen #1 edge beveler
• Weaver #0 edge beveler
• Weaver #1 edge beveler (for most of the bag)
• Nail pullers (For clipping off rivets)
• Barry King #5 French skiver
• Straight blade skiving knife

• 6mm steel pricking irons

• 1/8” single tooth lacing chisel (for punching hardware slots)
• Diamond stitching awl (for punching gusset stitching holes)

• 0.6mm Black Ritza Tiger Thread

• 1.5lb Barry King tapered maul (For punching holes)
• C.S. Osborne & Co Leather Working Hammer (For tamping down stitches and glue)
• Ball peen hammer (For peening rivets)
• 5oz tack hammer.

Thank you very much. It is definitely a lot of work to make a bag like this but always worth it in the end. I encourage you to give leather-craft a shot. And don't think to yourself that you need all the machines, it can all be done with hand tools and hand stitching.
I've recently become interested in leather crafts and ran across your channel. What beautiful work you do! I'm a quilter/bag maker and seeing some of the similarities increases both my interest and confidence in trying this new craft (though nothing this ambitious--yet). I've been quilting for 25 years but I believe one is never too old to learn something new!

OLD Leather Smith here, very very nice, I have a few suggestions. Wax paper works better than paper and you can reuse it. This 1 I suggested 2 my client which was enthusiasticly excepted, instead of sewing the side pockets on the bag I sewed 2 straps 1 to the bag and 1 to the pocket that way they can be removed and worn on the belt. Still a very nice job. GOD'S BLESSINGS ✝️⚾🙃
