The first (experimental) high-bypass turbofan engine was built and run on February 13, 1964 by AVCO-Lycoming. Shortly after, the General Electric TF39 became the first production model, designed to power the Lockheed C-5 Galaxy military transport aircraft. The windmilling fan was a major issue when it was discovered that the engine-driven OIL PUMP was not driven by the high-bypass shaft, and thus the bearings were starved as the first C-5 test aircraft blades revolved with the wind on the ramp at Edwards AFB.

Had the chance to be on a delivery flight from PAE way back 2015 as a mechanic. It was a very nice experience taking a 787-9 on a 15 hour flight. Still have the video of take-off while chose to sit on aft economy to have a better view. We were only 11 people on board. Still have the 787 diecast and keychain souvenir from Boeing.

When you buy a car sometimes the Sales Advisor will put in some petrol or even full tank in my country as part of their sales service. Is it the same here that Boeing put full tank for its customer to fly back free of charge or the customer has to pay?

I did a 787 delivery flight for my previous airline about 5 years ago. I’m not sure if the fuel was paid for by Boeing, our company flight dispatchers made the flight plan and determined the fuel load and it was on the plane before I was. I don’t recall the exact figure, but based on the length of the flight it was around 90-100,000 pounds, which is roughly 15,000 gallons. Tens of thousands of dollars worth of fuel is a big freebie… but then again the 787 sticker price is pretty big as well.
They did make a very nice little gift package for the flight crew with a bunch of Boeing and 787 labeled items, and since we shuttled back a few of our maintenance guys on the flight home, I gave a lot of it to them.
Boeing did cater the plane, and the food and snacks were amazing. Even some bottles of Boeing wine which I took home and still have to this day (obviously couldn’t have on the flight).

This is probably the silliest question possible, considering this is a brand new 787, but do brand new aircraft like this have a "new aircraft smell", like a new car?

Perhaps they would have that New Smell of the Seats and the Rest of the Body.
When passengers start coming in, the smell will stick to their clothing and diminishes with time. The smell on the body disappears during the maintenance process.😄😄😂
