they are spanish, so it's not only they are made not in a industrial way, the fact that they are imported from spain increase the price for sure. The colour difference he is talking about is because they are fried with olive oil, not a cheap oil.
It's all about the oil. The ones in the can are fried in olive oil, and I'm sure they change the oil frequently. The Lays are fried in cheap vegetable oil, and it's not changed as often. All the flavor of the chip is in the oil.
That's vanilla to be honest. I eat the same way but not just one chip at a time. It's handfuls. I don't buy food to baby it. I buy food to EAT the shit out of it. 😂
Pretty cool video, if you want some info ive been eating bonilla since i was a kid so i can tell you a few things: I live pretty close to the factory where they make the chips, north of Spain in Galicia. The pack is 64% chips, 34% olive oil and the rest is salt, its not that they use 34% of olive oil and the rest is a different kind of oil, everything is cooked in olive oil of decent quality, and thats why they are kinda expensive (and also why they have that nice golden color). I visited the factory when i was a kid in a school trip and we saw the entire process. Its potatoes fried in olive oil and salt, no extra crap like lays and other big brands. In Spain the "chip culture" is old so we have a lot of those local one factory brands that are quite good and expanded and now sell all over the country but they kinda do the things like they did 80 years ago just modernized, like bonilla, santa ana (santa ana are my favourites by far, if you visit Spain try to find them in the supermarket) and many others. I read on the newspaper last year that after the chips appeared on the movie they increased their sales 130% on their website and they hired 8 people, so its pretty cool for a small local brand to get that kind of exposure internationally. Its funny cuz i dont think this brand is even well known/sold in many parts of Spain but some people know it in other countries because of the movie. If someone is curious about the prices locally, i can get them for 2.10€ 150g and 3,75€ for 300g. The "buckets" i think are only sold online now (i remember seeing them at the supermarket when i was a kid but not anymore) and its 10€ for 275g and 14€ for 500g so 20$ its not that bad for international shipping i guess.

Chips in bags aren't filled with air - they're inflated with nitrogen. If there were air (which includes oxygen), your chips would oxidize and go stale or rancid. The inflated bag also aids in manufacturing and bagging. Without the puff, they bags don't behave well on belts that move the product around the production line and also protects the chips inside from getting crushed.
As someone from spain I love spanish crisps, they almost have an egg-yolky flavour, I would eat them over most flavoured chips here in england. Thick cut english are still great tho.
I'd buy those if I could like once a month for a movie or someth.. u can reuse the can and add popcorn in there too and other stuff like nachos and u can put the lid back on so they still stay fresh while in the bag it is harder u need a peg to close it..

I like that they fill the container instead of being half full like a pack.
For 30 bucks they better do that...
That whole bucket is 4-5 bucks worth of lay’s but then, the quality difference is huge for $15 extra.
Filling the bag just means your chips get crushed. Easier in a can since a can is much more solid
maybe because its not a bag and its a can?
theyre expensive though. the container also cost more money to manufacture. bags are cheaper & the air protects the product.
