using a SPRAY SEALANT - Mr. Super Clear (layers, when & how to spray)

    Using some kind of spray sealant is a MUST during repainting Blythe, Monster High, or BJD dolls. Sealants help us to prepare our doll for the faceup by creating a kind of grainy surface so the paint particles will stick onto the surface. Spray sealants help us to seal our work too, making it to be more resistant against external factors (like smudging the paint during redressing the doll, etc).
    My favorite spray sealant is Mr. Super Clear UV-cut Flat, but the technique is the same at all spray sealants. Occasionally I use the Gloss or the semi-gloss version of this brand, mostly if I want to achieve a more radiant look. But even after this glossy layer, I spray a very light matte layer, so the whole head won't be looking like a disco ball:)
    Mr. Super Clear is perfect for every doll's type, including vinyl dolls (Monster High, Barbie), plastic dolls (Blythe and Pullip), and resin dolls (BJD).
    I can recommend the Tamiya spray sealant too, but that one is not good for vinyl dolls (the surface will be sticky over a little time), so it is good only on plastic and resin dolls.
    If you live in the EU, I can recommend this Spanish website to buy your spray sealant dolls.moe/en/43-fijadores-msc-
    Spray sealants are all toxic, so a good respirator mask is a must-have. If you smell the spray, then it is a sign that you are using the wrong face mask or you need to change your filters.

    • @myi096
      @myi096 Před 4 měsíci +2

      Spray at temperature around 18C ~ 26C. Humidity should be under 40% idealy but I did spray in humidity 50%. Humidity can cause shininess and MSC to "cloud" in some spots of the doll. Also spray outside and away from pets or people if you can. See the wind direction and spray in a way its not blowing into you. Leave to dry there. Dont bring into home until its dry if you can.

    • @unniedolls
      @unniedolls  Před rokem +2

      Depending on the humidity. I leave the head for around 15-20 minutes to dry after each layer, and around 40-60 min before painting to it. So If I prepare the head for the first painting layer, I spray 1 layer, wait 15-20 minutes, spray another one, wait another 15-20 minutes and if I spray again I wait 40-60 minutes before painting on the first paint layer, so around 1,5 hours. This might vary on the thickness of your spraying layer, but I recommend spraying thin layers, not a lot at once.

    Is msc (once it is dry on a dolls face) safe for kids to play with the doll?

    • @unniedolls
      @unniedolls  Před 2 měsíci +3

      MSC is safe after drying, children can play with it. However, custom dolls become a piece of art after customization, they are not meant for children to play with. Some children are a bit aggressive with dolls, so they can't be gentle with the head and faceup. If you buy a custom doll for a child, they might ruin the new face fast.

    does the uv version affect vinyl differently than the regular? such as the vinyl of a barbie head?

    • @unniedolls
      @unniedolls  Před 2 lety +1

      Using regular sprays might be causing yellowing on the head, especially if you keep the doll in a bright/sunny room. The UV version protects the head better from yellowing. I only use the UV version and I just saw a photo of my old work from 8 years ago. Someone bought it from the first owner and the new owner sent me a photo. There is no yellowing at all!! I was amazed, the doll looked like when I sold it.
      I know that the UV version is a bit more expensive, but if you want that your work will be beautiful after 6-8 years too, and be quality work, you must have to use the UV version of the spray!

      yes, it makes to be permanent. • @unniedolls
      @unniedolls  Před 11 měsíci +2

      I'm using very fine sponges and sanding paper, so they disappear by sanding. You need to sand for hours to get a smooth result. First remove the deeper ones with 300-400grit, then use a 600grit sandpaper/sanding sponge, after that, you can use a 1000grit sandpaper/sponge or a white magic sponge, that will really smoothen the surface in the end.

      Only for plastic and resin (not for vinyl like Barbie/Monster High) I can recommend Liquitex Matte Varnish or Tamiya, but Mr. Super Clear is much better than those!! Not surprised why Mr. Super Clear is the most used spray sealant, simply because it is the best. Unfortunately not everyone can get access to it, but if you can, please use that!
