- HERE YOU WILL SEE **EARLY ARRIVAL RAW FOOTAGE** OF THE FDNY BATTLING A MAJOR 5TH ALARM FIRE IN A MULTIPLE DWELLING ON WEST 141ST STREET IN THE HAMILTON HEIGHTS AREA OF MANHATTAN IN NEW YORK CITY.
Every time I watch your videos, it brings me a little bit closer to understanding what my grandfather must have experienced when he started as a firefighter in the 1950's, worked his way up the ranks and retired as a Chief in the Vancouver FD here in Vancouver BC Canada. I never got to hear any of his stories, I never developed a close relationship with him and when I started watching your videos last year & it gave me a glimpse of what fire fighters go through, how brave, courageous & selfless they are to run into a fire when we all run out. So when he died earlier this year, these videos helped me see the type of man he was & why he never spoke about it.
It's sad that your fathers stories and struggles died with him, and that you weren't close. I was not not close with my father either. My grandfather and grandmother both fought for Canada and Britain respectfully in WWII. They both died when I was young, so I never got to hear the stories of their battles, and what it was like in that dark that time in history.
WELL, I UNDERSTAND AND NOW YOU CAN SEE WHAT HE DID BUT DON'T BEAT YOURSELF OVER THE HEAD. JUST THINK OF THE GREAT WORK HE DID FOR HIS COMMUNITY AND FAMILY.....MAY HE REST IN PEACE.....THANKS SO MUCH.....
I can relate my my grandfather was a fireman for pompton lakes New Jersey. He was also a Marine in the United States Marine corps. I did have a fairly close relationship with her grandfather but you never talked about any of his experiences. And me and my older brother were little kids my parents manage an apartment complex and Vacaville California and me and my older brother almost set the apartment building on fire. My mother called him. Told him what we did. He said they did what!? He was on duty at the fire station and the very next day he was in California! He walked in our apartment with his leather belt already in his hand soaked good in wet and whipped both our butts bare! I think him everyday for doing that because it taught us both a very big lesson. After that every time you came to California he would put my mom's police scanner on the fire station. Any fire calls he would take me out there and point out what they were doing and teach me about fire suppression containment and extinguishing different types of fires. His lessons are the reason why I was able to put out 95% of a brush fire that was about 150 ft 200 ft long possibly a little bit longer 40 ft and width and the flames were at least 60 70 feet in the air bare handed before even the fire departments spotter got there nonetheless the engines! My grandfather passed away December 5th of 2000 from a heart attack. But he's still with us! Rip John Alexander Osbun. John thank you for your videos you're very informative and very good positioning on for watching the fires. Keep up the great work!
My great grandfather worked for Newark NJ FD in the late 1800’s early 1900’s.i have a picture of him in his uniform.
How do you NOT have a relationship with your Grandfather???
I watch the guy on the ladder and I get the willys. I can't imagine the courage those firefighter have working at those heights. Once again a great informative video. Your placement is more than adequate to show what's going on!!
WELL, THAT MEANS A LOT TO ME GREG! AND AS FOR THE LADDER GUY IT MADE ME NERVOUS TOO! THANKS SO MUCH.....
Amazing how 1 room is still clear of fire when everything else is on fire. Great job again and thanks for all your movies. Love Them !
it pisses me off that people get millions of dollars for doing jack shit at work yet these guys and all out public service works are the TRUE HEROS of society yet get paid pennies
Hey it isn't easy in Silicon Valley. They have wine on tap, not by the bottle. Often not even a sommelier on staff in the complimentary cafeteria. How can one relax in the yoga and nap rooms knowing there's no expert pairing advice on which wine goes best with your fresh made sushi?
I TOTALLY AGREE AND THANKS SO MUCH.....
True yet if you ask any of these guys they love what they do and love their brothers! How many can say that about their job? Agree the more they pay them the better!
I have to agree!
Well, it ain't pennies. Few other jobs requiring no college credits or degree pay over $100,000 by the fifth year of service. Even in NYC. But the cost of living in the City is killer, especially for a single income household. The pension is good but that starts after 22.5 years.
Thank you for providing superb coverage of major fires in NYC.
Thanks also to the F.D.N.Y for their steadfast performance as one of the world’s best fire departments.
YOUR VERY WELCOME AND THANKS SO MUCH.....AND YES, THEY ARE THE BEST OF THE BEST.....
How is not putting a drop of water on the fire and sending the bucket up empty world's best? In order to put out the fire they actually have to blast it with water.
Wow! Big, nasty fire on this call! It's so strange seeing that one apartment in the middle all nice and set up with the lights on while a raging fire surrounds it!! It's like a whole little story on it's own in the midst of a big novel.
Great commentary on the fire fighting and how on top of it the FDNY was. You called it perfectly. They got this under control pretty quick considering how big it was and the limited bucket ladder access. The fire didn't look that big from street. It's was a totally different scene down there and it was good to show that contrast. Great job capturing all of it!!!!! 👍
WELL, I TOTALLY AGREE AND APPRECIATE THE KIND WORDS AND SUPPORT.....IT WAS STRANGE TO SEE THE ROOF ON FIRE AND EVERYTHING ELSE JUST NORMAL.....ANWYAY, THANKS SO MUCH.....
Fascinating coverage, John. Thank you sending 2+hrs of your time for us ❤
YOUR WELCOME AND THANKS SO MUCH SUZE.....
Jaw ~dropping amazing ! No need to apologize for the phone camera, your footage is incredible ! what a battle !! NYFD is the best in the World ! I'm from Bloomfield NJ , my Grandfather was a Fireman in Bloomfield Station 1. I have his Fireman's badge. This is such an amazing angle, I appreciate everything you do ! Keep safe !

Great job with the coverage and play by play! Your videos are the best!

@@THEMAJESTIRIUM1 You're welcome John! :). How many firefighters was there?
I have not been this concerned for these guys in years. Knowing the extent and speed of spread they can not see. One thing to note is the age of the structure bought them all time.
I WAS TOO MICHELE.....THANKS SO MUCH.....

John I have no words. I watched this video in awe. FDNY are the pinnacle of fire fighting. You are the pinnacle of covering and giving out vital information. This was a scary fire. The FDNY never blinked. There isn't enough credit for this outstanding department that is second to none. Thank You for the amazing coverage you provided. Stay safe. Praying for the Brothers and Sisters of FDNY.
WELL, JOHN YOU ARE MOST WELCOMED.....AS FOR THE FDNY I AGREE WITH YOUR ENTIRE COMMENT.....THEY ARE VERY, VERY, VERY GOOD INDEED AT WHAT THEY DO! THANKS SO MUCH.....
Right on point these r the best and most in depth of ops and everything
Just wondering why it always takes the FDNY so long to put master streams in use? Fire blowing out of the roof and they have 2, maybe 3 hand lines operating inside. The one tower wasn’t even manned! Meanwhile the fire continues to spread unabated. I also don’t understand why they leave truckies on the roof 30 min into the video. Great video as always JJ.
@@mikehoysler4322 i was def wondering y they had unmaned tower
@@dubzytse710 It’s not for a lack of manpower. They had hose stretched all over the street but only one tower & one ladder. Why not get some of those spectating FFs to move the hose and get a 2nd tower on the 1 - 2 corner? IMO the FDNY is their own worst enemy, yeah the streets are crowded with parked cars, yes there are lots of exposure issues, but once they opened up one tower master stream things got a lot better fast, but it was 50 min into the video so it took them at least 60 min to figure it out. Every fire it’s the same M.O.
Way to go once again JJ, Thanks for your work!
THANKS SO MUCH ROBERT AS ALWAYS.....
That was one fast moving, raging fire. Thank God nobody was hurt, thank you JJ for making this video and showing what these men and women go through tho keep us civilians safe. As always, cheers from L.B.I.N.J. YOU SHOULD HAVE 1 MILLION SUBSCRIBERS AS YOUR CONTENT IS AMAZING.

Your incredible efforts to get us the best views of the fires is above and beyond-especially this particular crazy wild fire. Wind seemed to spread it too. Horrific fire. Amazing firefighters.
And you have been filming fires long enough that you know what they will do before they do it. Thanks for incredible coverage.
YES, I DO KNOW A LOT ABOUT IT JEAN! THIS FIRE HAD LOTS OF MOVING PARTS MAKING IT VERY HECTIC AND DANGEROUS.....THANKS SO MUCH.....
And the TLC for the puppy!❤️
Difficult fire...thank you for sticking with it and your hard work
YOU ARE VERY WELCOME AND THANKS SO MUCH JAMES.....
Wow, that was a big fire Maj 🔥 watched it in installments lol. Good to know there were no serious Injuries. Hope everyone with minor injuries recovers quickly. Thanx to you for an awesome video. That's why you're the best Maj 👊

As usual, an excellent video! Makes me feel like I am right there……sure do miss firefighting!
COOL.....AND OF COURSE THANKS SO MUCH JAMES.....
great coverage once again
THANKS SO MUCH YURI.....
Great job with the video. The camera issues weren't that noticeable. In regard to alarms, I wonder sometimes if they are reluctuant to call a full alarm response because of space limitiations for the apparatus. Things looked a little tight on this one. Have a safe and happy holiday season!
YES, I AGREE WITH YOUR COMMENT AND OF COURSE HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO YOU AS WELL LINDA.....THANKS SO MUCH.....
Wow. The first big fire in a while! Great video JJ! No worries taking off when you did. Exaustation can be very persuasive.

Take care. Stacy safe. Great photojournalism! ! Best. Jason
YOU ARE WELCOME JASON AND THANKS SO MUCH.....
Fabulous coverage!!
Love your videos, like always!
If you have a new iPhone 14, your probably triggering the switch between the regular camera and the ultra wide. In the “Settings” app, go to “Camera”, then scroll all the way down to “Macro Control” and turn it on. Then go up to “Preserve Settings” and turn on “Macro Control” there. You’ll then have a new control when you zoom in that’s a yellow circle with a flower in it - when you press it, it will lock the camera so it doesn’t keep switching.
Hope this helps!
I AM GLAD YOU ENJOY MY VIDEOS AND CHANNEL.....AS FOR YOUR INSTRUCTION ON THE IPHONE I GREATLY APPRECIATE YOUR HELP.....I CHANGE IT AND IT SEEMS TO BE MUCH BETTER THANKS TO YOU....I THANK YOU SO VERY, VERY MUCH BRIE.....
This is a very strange fire, and it all goes so fast, compliments to the firefighters, and you of course, you are also standing there in the cold and in the smoke, thanks for the video, stay save
WELL, YOU ARE WELCOME AND THANKS SO MUCH WILLEM.....
Excellent coverage on this one. This shows how fast a fire can spread once it gets a good foothold in the cockloft. It lets your viewers see how risky fire fighting can be as they see members on the roof over a well involved fire. Sometimes you see strange things happen in a building like there’s one top floor apartment where the lights are still on and the fire didn’t extend down to it . While all other top floor apartments had extension. I’m kind of surprised that lines were not used from the B side exposure during the height of the fire like they finally did. I’m sure the owner of that one car is not happy the tower ladder is short jacked on the car. That is risky in itself because the car doesn’t provide solid footing.
Yeah I noticed the same thing about that one apartment. So strange how it was all nice and peaceful in the middle of all that. Makes you wonder what was happening in there, who lived there, what's the backstory of that??? Not in a suspicious way, but more in a generally curious way.
@@kowalski3769 yeah I know as a retired firefighter I saw things like this and there was really no logical explanation.
I'll bet those apartments were pretty inside though with post Victorian wood work and decorative plaster.
YES, I TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOUR GREAT COMMENT AS ALWAYS THOMAS.....ANYWAY, IT TURNS OUT THAT THE MARSHALLS DEEMED IT TO BE A ELECTRICAL PROBLEM IN THE WIRING IN THE CEILING.....THANKS SO MUCH.....
WELL, IT TURNS OUT THAT THE MARSHALLS DEEMED IT TO BE A ELECTRICAL PROBLEM IN THE WIRING IN THE CEILING.....THANKS SO MUCH.....
Man I grew up in the fire service,my father was a firefighter for many years and myself in the fire service for a bit but mostly EMS side and it kills me every time I see firefighters in toxic smoke without SCBA'S on. People are going to say well FDNY real smoke eaters yeah well say that when their in their early 50's or late 50's struggling to breath and are on oxygen for the rest of their lives. Because I've seen it first hand and it sucks especially when it's a loved one basically dieing a slow death. With the knowledge that we know today what's in these toxic smokes there's no reason not to be using proper PPE especially SCBA'S.
I TOTALLY AGREE AND UNDERSTAND YOUR POINT BRIAN.....IN THIS CASE THERE WAS LOTS OF TOXIC SMOKE FROM THE ROOFING MATERIAL.....THANKS SO MUCH.....
Excellent coverage and video brother ...
THANKS SO MUCH DAVE AS ALWAYS.....
Nice work with the video and explanations!
THANKS SO MUCH.....
What an outstanding video, “Bravo Zulu” my friend! I greatly appreciate your tenacity and efforts. Please keep up the good work!
WELL, THAT MEANS A LOT TO ME AND OF COURSE THANKS SO MUCH.....
I'm surprised members stayed on the roof so long!!!! It looked like they had no way off, but I'm sure they did. Brave and ballsey doesn't come close to describing these guys!
I TOTALLY AGREE SEAN! AND, IT TURNS OUT THAT THE MARSHALLS DEEMED IT TO BE A ELECTRICAL PROBLEM IN THE WIRING IN THE CEILING.....THANKS SO MUCH.....
Amazing footage as always. You could actually feel the heat coming from that building. Stay safe my friend.🙏🏻❤️🙂
YES INDEED THOMAS! THANKS SO MUCH.....
Awesome video brother thank you for sharing this with us
YOU ARE MOST WELCOMED PETER AND THANKS SO MUCH.....
Tremendous coverage ! I am amazed in how close the FDNY allows yourself and the others to get as close as you all do to their Fire Scenes to take these clips. In addition I am amazed in how you gain entry to nearby buildings /roofs to take these clips . Much thanks for posting and do Stay Safe ! Watch out for the Pit Bulls ! Talking about the tower ladder how effective it is knocking down fire it's use during the war years is when fdny perfected on how to use it effectively.

Great video jj
THANK NAYAN.....
Great coverage, bro.
THANKS SO MUCH.....
At 3:52 and 7:24, a trench cut is cutting a large hole in the roof to release smoke, gases and flames, and also provides access for hose water on the fire. Great coverage, John!
😡 you stole my explanation. LOL
With due respect, I will add a little more to your explanation:
It is typically used to stop a fire from running further within the space between the ceiling and the roof, known as the cockloft. It’s a long cut that allows a large volume of fire and fuel (smoke is fuel) out of the building, this stopping the horizontal spread of the fire.
@@ccc530 GOT IT thanks for the explanation. I meant no disrespect I was kidding around, hence the lol.
@@ccc530 Preventing "Flashover" if I'm not mistaken, correct?
All that doggone dried up wood 100 yrs up there. Why always wood??
The most lines I have ever seen ( excluding tower ladders) at a fire. 4 stretchered from the right side. 2 in exposure B. Who knows how many from the left of the building. Great job JJ. Saw this earlier but was able to watch it all tonight
I TOTALLY AGREE JI,.....THANKS SO MUCH.....
Great video. I like how you narrate
THANKS SO MUCH BILL......
I don't know if you are or were a firefighter, but you are so well educated in firefighting. It sure helps to us to understand what is happening. Thank you so much, FDNY! you mean not educated.
When ever i watch your videos my friend, I always feel proud knowing that my uncle was a battalion fire chief. My mom has told me stories about some of the things that he experienced...."Where da Drone at? There da Drone at" gotta love those drones and "Where da RAC at? There da RAC at" gotta love da RAC and the refreshments they provide....the area u were in looked like a war zone! The only victims in this video was someones car, a tree and a HUGE load of roofing supplies and peoples apartments that got destroyed! This a BIG fire and the location that u were in was very choice my friend i dont know what this popping thing is u mention but i dont notice it, the quality of your videos since u got your new phone has been AMAZING! did they figure out what caused the fire? Props to u, the FDNY, NYPD, da RAC and all the battalion chiefs of the great state of NYC! without them there would be no MAJESTIRIUM and without u there would be no fire buffing videos!
WELL, THAT MEANS A LOT FOR ME TO HEAR.....GLAD YOU FOUND THE VIDEO VERY INTERESTING AND NICE THAT YOUR UNCLE WAS A BATTALION CHIEF.....THIS FIRE WAS VERY DIFFICULT AND HECTIC FOR SURE.....THERE THE DRONE AND RAC AT.....HEHEHE.....THANKS SO MUCH.....
That one was a stubborn one but FDNY got it done. Thanks John appreciate the amazing footage as always. Stay safe brother
IT SURE WAS INDEED RICH.....THANKS SO MUCH.....
Great coverage, had to turn the tv off to carry on watching this
COOL INDEED JASON......THANKS SO MUCH.....
It makes me so proud to be an American when I see your bravery and hard work.
Btw another great video john
THANKS SO MUCH.....
That video was intense!!! Well done, as always. And shout out to that apartment in the middle on the top floor. I kept waiting for the fire to get to it but the lights didn't even flicker while the apartments on both side burned. Members could have sat on the couch and turned the tv on. Crazy!
I TOTALLY AGREE.....THANKS SO MUCH......
Absolutely incredible footage of a very dangerous fire! Fantastic coverage, John! The early roof ops were truly scary--FDNY Members are incredible! Your ability to point out the fire dropping into the apartments was awesome! Great insight into the exposure 4 (?) issue (upper left corner of film)--very troubling. Interesting to see later on that they had hoses operating from the threatened building. Thanks for a great video!
FYI since you have a question mark about the exposure comment. This is how exposures or the fire building it self is spoke of. Depending on the jurisdiction they use letters or numbers. The front of the building when looking down from the sky is A or number 1 side. It should be noted that incident command can make any part of the building the 1 side as long as they let everyone know. Following around the building in a clockwise direction the left side is B or 2, the rear is C or 3, and finally the right is D or 4.
@@thomasfreeman7770 Thanks for the info!
@@bobandvirginiaravera4775 your quite welcome. As a retired fire fighter I made many comments on JJs page to help people understand fire fighting. If you like fire incidents you should subscribe to his page. He is one of the best out there at what he does.
WELL, THAT IS MOST KID OF YOU INDEED BOB.....IT WAS A VERY HECTIC AND DIFFICULT FIRE INDEED.....THANKS SO MUCH.....
Thank you for the great video. I hope no injuries. Building renovations and HVAC fires are common in Arlington VA, as well as gas explosions in neighbouring counties.
I HEAR YA AND UNDERSTAND.....HERE THEY HAD SOME MINOR INJURIES.....YOU ARE WELCOME NORMAN THANKS SO MUCH......
Thanks for the great footage. I only wish we had more angles to see the bigger picture. It’s hard to understand why they would break out those windows to the upper apartments and then subsequently poke at a burning roof from below to bring burning embers into an otherwise controlled environment. The open windows only seemed to feed the flame of more oxygen from below, like you would do for a bbq grill. And that was a great shot you got of the firemen rifling through the apartment owner’s belongings 😂
YES, THEY NEED TO BREAK THE WINDOWS TO VENT.....TRUST ME THEY KNOW WHAT IS THE BEST OPTIONS BUT THANKS SO MUCH.....
That facade looks to be around the 1880-1890 era.
Roof most likely wooden and covered with layers and layers of roofing felt (bitumen) which burns quite ferociously. Nice job on the camerawork 👍
I AGREE AND OF COURSE THANKS SO MUCH.....
Great commentary and I appreciate the fact you find great vantage points. I'm thinking it would have been advantageous if Command sent some members to your location. Good Job !!
WELL, YOU ARE VERY WELCOME AND THANKS SO MUCH JODY.....
