I love Chthonic and this album in particular is amazing, only discovered them earlier this year but have known of them for years but I suspect they're a bit less popular these days as front man Freddy Lim has been an elected member of Taiwans Legislative Yuan since 2016 and so they don't have as much time or freedom to record and tour like they used to only doing about 1 show a year now (there's a great video on their youtube channel of the last concert they performed in front of Taiwan's presidentail palace last December).
I think you're pretty much spot on with the pronunciation of Takasago Army. Takasago is an ancient Japanese name for the island of Taiwan and the Takasago Volunteers were indiginous Taiwanese who fought for the Empire of Japan during WWII, so the entire album is about the Taiwanese soldiers. That radio message you here at the end of Broken Jade is actually Emperor Hirohito's radio address announcing the surrendor of Japan, whilst carefully avoiding using the term surrendor.

CHTHONIC last time they were in the UK was 2012 to 2013 I think and they hadn’t come back since the vocalist Freddie Ling is a elected politician in Taiwan. They only play in Atari wan and Japan over the years since. They will be back 1 day

Taiwanese Takasago who gave their lives for the Empire of Japan!
    Sleep peacefully at Yasukuni Shrine.
The Japanese never forget the spirit of the Takasago tribe of Taiwan!

I've been suggesting this for a few... years? Though I suggested another track from this album. Try out their video Takao. Though, there is a little nuance, I'm fully convinced that ALL of their songs sounds better on their native language. Search Takao versions in eng and taiwan and try to proove me wrong, I dare you.

And you got no credit? I'd put in a complaint if I were you.

@@PNW that being said... Try out Chinese band Bloody Tyrant with their video Final Battle of Sun-Moon Lake, great stuff. Not as epic as Chthonic, but still damn good.

As far as the Babymetal connection, I think that comes through Marty Friedman. Marty and Freddie, the vocalist of Chthonic, collaborated on some things some years ago. As far as I know, Japan has always been an important market for them.

certain generation of taiwan and japan have strong friendship since they grew up sharing each others' culture. Freddy Lim and Doris yeh are the ones who represent them. They're special to Japan.

There's a band name I completely forgot about. I remember reading about them back presumably around 10 years ago like you said, in I think Metal Hammer magazine (and associated free CD that I now can't find) intriguingly described something like an "oriental wall of noise" .
Very interesting sound at the time, kinda black metal ish like you said, kinda Cradle of Filth ish as I was into them at the time. Probably should have dug deeper at the time but will definitely have a look now

Charles didn't manage to escape yet?😆 Quite a shocker indeed. Such a nice haunting beginning. Throughout the song lots of- and very nice transitions. Very tight. I think, correction, for sure this will be on my playlist. Good morning, what a sound.
