The only reason Trump still has any influence in his own party (whichever one that happens to be at the time) is because he chose to run again in an attempt to avoid going to prison.
Usually one term losers just do the decent thing and fade away into obscurity and let someone else see if they can win. It is also quite rare for an incumbent president to lose the White House too, but serial loser Trump managed to do so.
