I Love that you aren't Promoting one brand and talk about what you like and don't like of each thing instead of just trying to sell something. A video that you maybe compare hunting gear packed for a 5 days trip in 1980s vs 2020s.

    Big fan, longtime supporter...I'll most likely still get the peax headlamp eventually...however you said in this video there is a green light and if that's true....I'll buy 2 today. It was my understanding it only has red and white color options and that's why I've just stuck with my mediocre blackdiamonds that suck batteries dry fast...and my rechargeable Fenix that has same specs as your Peax.....I'm patiently waiting for a better quality headlamp that has a greenlight. Great gear dump, as per usual

      Ha ha! We’ll, here’s the weight details: The pack as featured here is 40lbs-this includes 10 freeze dried dinners and 10 breakfasts. But this pack weight does not include my day food, or my rifle or my spotting scope. Rifle is 7lbs. 10-days of day food is 10lbs. Spotter is 2.3lbs. Total weight I’ll be carrying for a 10-day backpack hunt is 60lbs. 22 lbs of that weight is food. So after I eat my food, I’ll be carrying about 38lbs. of gear. A boned-out buck weighs about 70-80lbs. So about 110-120lbs is my pack-out weight if I am successful and punch my deer tag. Let me know how the nerd inside you feels about these numbers. 😊

    I have a question, which maps do you actually use to orientate yourself, do you not use a compass?

    • @GrittyGearAndPodcast
      @GrittyGearAndPodcast  Pƙed rokem

      Been using GOHUNT Maps. But there’s a lot of digital maps out there. Lots of good options. I have paper maps from REI or online. I bring a compass but never use it-the digital maps on my phone tell me exactly where I’m at.

      Yes, the gators breathe quite well-as good or better than the competition.

    2 is 1 and 1 is none. Redundancy! Your opinions should evolve with experience. Your gear dump carries a lot more weight with me as you aren't just pushing a line of gear from a sponsor. All items seem to be items that work for you.

    Do you use the saw for the wood stove too or just bone?

    • @GrittyGearAndPodcast
      @GrittyGearAndPodcast  Pƙed rokem +2

      Mostly just the wood stove, but on a recent trip we used the saw a lot on bone because in the area we were in it is required to bring out all the meat including ribs with the bone in. This particular saw works better for wood than bone. It got the job done, but a finer tooth saw works better for bone.

    Do you know what your pack weight it by chance?

    • @GrittyGearAndPodcast
      @GrittyGearAndPodcast  Pƙed rokem +2

      The pack as featured here is 40lbs-this includes 10 freeze dried dinners and 10 breakfasts. So after I eat my food, I’ll be carrying about 38lbs. of gear and about 70-80lbs of boned out deer meat. So about 110-120lbs is my pack-out weight if I am successful and punch my deer tag.
