- After a quick turnaround, the Pittsburgh Penguins hosted the Detroit Red Wings. Looking to bounce back from the previous game, the Penguins came to play. Reilly Smith started the scoring by tipping in a shot from Marcus Pettersson. Lucas Raymond responded for the Red Wings. Before the Period was over, the Penguins took the lead back. Sidney Crosby scored unassisted. That goal tied Crosby with Wayne Gretzky for the seventh-most goals with a single franchise in NHL history. Quickly after the Penguins got a second goal from Valtteri Puustinen. Tic tac toe passing from below the goal line, Smith passed to Puustinen in the slot. In one motion, Puustinen collected the pass and shot the puck into the back of the net. Penguins ended the period with a 3-1 lead. Michael Bunting continued the scoring in the 2nd period. Puustinen sent a shot on net and Bunting dove to tap in the rebound. Late in the 2nd, Christian Fischer scored for Detroit, but the Penguins answered right back. Crosby, looking for a body in front, saw Lars Eller's stick and placed a perfect pass for Eller to redirect in. The Penguins held a 5-2 lead heading into the third. Detroit gave a big push near the end of the game, pulling their goalie and scoring a late power-play goal. The Red Wings pulled their goalie again for the extra attacker. The Penguins were able to fend off the Red Wings and score an empty net goal for comfort to end the game 6-3 for the Penguins.

Man this win felt like a breath of fresh air...it's been a tough last-half of the season...glad to see the Pens CAN STILL play really well when running on all cylinders !!
For sure. Was great to see.
87 scored his 583rd goal with 1 team tying Wayne Gretzky who had 583 goals with the Oilers for the 7th most goals with 1 franchise.
Gretzky accomplished this in 10 seasons, Crosby took 19 seasons to tie him …….with 583 goals.
If you compare the first 10 seasons with one team,Crosby scored 302 goals which was 281 less goals than Gretzky’s 583 goals.
That is how dominant the great one was…..❤
@@theliftexpertyea Gretzky's stats will never be touched. He also played in an Era where some players could barely skate and my grandma would have a good chance of scoring on the goalies. Mario Lemieux still my #1
@@theliftexpertThanks for the knowledge. 87 will still pass Gretzky with his next goal! Bobby Hull is 5th at 604 goals.
Everytime I see these two teams play I'm reminded of the back to back finals appearances.
That’s it boys never give up regardless of the outcome at the end of the season
Pens Win! Remember when these 2 teams were top of the NHL? Pepperidge Farm remembers.
Good win!!!!
Shocking how well the game goes when you score on just two power plays.
This is still the team with a ton of All Star caliber players as usual every year. They were out of the running even prior to the all-star break. I I love our Pens and I'm an avid fan for over 20 years. But this season was not even close to being good enough.
That's it Penguins. Go on like this 👍 Thanx you all guys 👏🙌
i really hope the Pens keep it up and win more games
remember 11-2 anyone!?!??
shhh
Detroit was playing like the Pens have been playing of late. Glad we could capitalize.
Congrats, Cap.
Let's go Penguins!
Happy Saint Patrick's Day!
Imagine if they never blew all those double goal leads in the 3rd
I liked that album Blow By Blow with Jeff Beck. Not so
when the Pens do the same blowing when it comes to
Hockey games this season.
Am I understanding this right, when it says Crosby tied Gretzky with 7th most points in a single franchise, is that meaning to say how many points each player played with a single team before leaving? Like the amount of points Gretzky scored before leaving the Oilers?
Yes
87 scored his 583rd goal with 1 team tying Wayne Gretzky who had 583 goals with the Oilers, for the 7th most goals with 1 franchise.
Sid tied gretzky for 7th most goals scored by a player for a team/franchise. Gretz played for la and ny while sids only been a pen to this point. 🍻
Goals not points
@@johntruxal432Gretzky had 583 goals with the Edmonton Oilers (not LA and NYR).
👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Put Jarry on the shelf for the rest of the Season!! Ned proved he can win Jarry has been playing like a dumpster fire not caring what goals he gives up!! Ned battled vs the Redwings! He would've beaten the Rangers too!!
This is just completely devoid of reality lol
@@jsebby2284 Results don't lie! Look at Jarrys performance the past month! who played against the Caps, Rangers, Oilers?Allowing 6 goals per game? Not Ned
Let’s go pens

You're a serious NPC
Spoken like someone who doesn't actually watch the games
Do you have to give up your first unborn child to be able to watch these games. How am I blacked out in the damn town they play in. The math ain’t mathin my guy.
First
Just like the Panthers you'll miss the tournament.
15 games left. It's not over yet.
Penguins won’t give up regardless hater
@@jamaldee2355 They're paid not to but they'll come up short.
I've been a fan since probably before you were born. Way before they ever won a cup. I've seen them come back from far worse.
@@theguywithone First round exit if they do. They'll be playing a top seed.
