    Even though it’s now 11 years old it’s still a very attractive car,..it could actually sell today without styling changes in my opinion

    lol, slalom tests are to show emergency maneuvering and body roll. How much your car rolls during turns and such

    @IrisMG
    I think the slalom test is for demostrating how well the car's suspension is put together or not. this might come in handy in accident avoidance and such.

    @IrisMG It is for emergency manoeuvres. If a child runs into the road and you have to change direction quickly. Test for grip, stability and the optimum speed at which you can carry out such a manoeuvre.

    My 2013 gets 40mpg with easy driving care adjustment. Average 32mpg with awful habits and with normal behavior I get 36mpg. Great car.
    Props to this Motorweek review btw. 1st one i've seen wherein the test did not quote the awful driving habit score then claim conspiracy.

    They talk about sporty driving and preformance bc not everyone wants to drive a cardboard box. People want fun to drive hybrids, that doesnt mean fast, just a responsive car

    @dnganga Thank you both.

    @IrisMG The slalom test shows how the car reacts when snatching the wheel at speed i.e. if a dear runs in front of your car, how will the car react. stay planted or spin off in a ditch.

    @audiboy251 Actually, think about this. If you can travel faster into a corner and keep up speed in a corner, you can save fuel by not having to accelerate to gain the speed you lost in the turn. Very efficient. No? You can also save money on brakes by using them less.

    The thing is the new 2012 Camry Hybrid is the same price, gets better (43mpg city / 39mpg highway) and is nearly as fast as the Optima turbo, with a 0-60 time of (7.3 seconds)

    @Motorchevytoyota you said youd take the camry over the optima because it was slower by .4 seconds

    @DroverChicago so your saying that everyone who buys a car like this is going to be racing around a track? i know very few people that even go to a track. most people buy a car like this because it saves them a lot of money in gas.

    200hp and 195tq and it does 0-60 in 9 seconds??? 9?? Either it doesn’t give you all the power (so why advertise it) or they’re lying about the total system output. That’s Prius slow while having mpg barely better than 2013 accord or 2014 Mazda6 non hybrid. And it’s $7100 more than the normal Optima. It makes a poor case for itself…

    @audiboy251 - Allow me to explain an exotic concept to that apparently has never occurred to you: some people would like performance AND fuel economy if they can get some semblance of both. That's why MW is talking about performance and sporty driving, so that prospective buyers can be aware of the compromises involved in the trade-off and how those compromises compare to segment competitors. That's what good car reviewing is all about.

    @Motorchevytoyota The Camry Hybrid is not .4 seconds slower then the 2.0t Optima! the Camry Hybrid goes 0-60 in about 7.6 seconds. the 2.0t Optima goes from 0-60 in about 6.1-6.5 seconds!

  • @MarioRoussel
    @MarioRoussel Před 12 lety

    Why are they talking about performance & sporty driving... If you'r looking for an Hybrid, you're looking for Fuel Economy and Fuel Economy is not about Performance & Sporty Driving.... People need to wake up & Slow down, changing the way they are driving just a bit.... I have done it myself and I'm saving a bit of money on gas....

  • @afcgeo
    @afcgeo Před 11 lety

    It gets up to 40mpg highway (though Hyundai motors have been caught lying about their MPG recently) while the 2013 Toyota Camry gets you 41mpg COMBINED!

    Kia has come a LONG way, watch out Prius! But I've never understood those stupid slalom tests. Who the hell drives like that?!
