  • This video is a demo both inside and outside on two commercial laser brands. Aeon Mira 9 and the Thunder Nova 63. The target audience is the person looking to buy a laser in the 7K-15K market. I own these two lasers and people are always hitting me up for the differences. I decided to make a video to show some of the differences along with my feedback on a few of the key features.
    This is comparing a desktop series (Mira) to an industrial laser (Thunder Nova). Aeon has an additional line of lasers that is also a Nova series and could have some comparable features.
    Video Details:
    Footprint size,
    Laser Head Design, (Going from 2" to 4" lens)
    Autofocus Design,
    Exhaust/vent system,
    Fit and finish,
    Lighting & color, Handles & Hinges
    Air assist
    Control Panel & Buttons

    I cut my laser engraving teeth on a Thunder Nova laser several years ago. I was tempted by the Mira 9 until I realized the cutting bed was so small. Plus, for the price of the 100W tube (a $1500 upgrade), Aeon charges you an upcharge of 3x the cost of the RECI laser tube, in addition to the cost of the stock 70W tube and power supply (which should work for the 100W w4/s4 tube).
    I think the Nova51 is going to fit my needs perfectly.

    how much of a smell do you notice when cutting/engraving between the machines? it looks like they are both exhausted through the window and if you have a video on how to make that window board that'd be awesome too. I assume that any noticed smell would be particulates in the air that could potentially be harmful to your health so if you get any seepage from the lid or the frame that would be the root cause. A properly configured and maintained laser should be basically 100% precise, no matter the size. This means the laser head is moved to exactly where it needs to go every time.
      However, there are many factors that may affect "precision". If you are doing very fine detail, then a higher wattage tube will mean a larger dot size. This cannot be overcome, it is the nature of it. So in that regard, a smaller machine with lower wattage tube will do better. Combine this with some accessories (such as compound lens kit) and you can get a very small dot size that will do well in engraving.
      I'm using a 150W RECI tube and wished I went with a 100W instead. I thought I needed the cutting power but in the end, I favoured edge quality which means slowing down the cutting. I would get a better result with a lower power tube overall.
      If the bulk of your work requires cutting thick materials then go with the higher wattage.

    Do you mind sharing an Approximate price of you machine and add on's you picked. I've gone to website and seems sooo pricey not sure if it me or are you really paying those prices ?

      Thunder's prices are on their website...that's everything including shipping, tax etc.

      These are commercial machines and are priced as such. I seriously doubt I would purchase one of these if I was a hobbyist but I am purchasing it for my business. Yes, expensive but it is a lot of bang for the buck and cheaper than getting an Epilog et al.

    Do you know if the Mira features / design is similar to the Aeon Nova 16

    • @alishapate6550
      @alishapate6550  Před 3 lety

      My understanding is that the Aeon Nova line has a design closer to what the Thunder Nova line. Mira has different features from the Aeon Nova line.

    • @alishapate6550
      @alishapate6550  Před 3 lety

      The Nova line offered by Aeon from my understanding has a different laser head design than that of the Mira line among other things. I would confirm that though with the USA sales team to be for sure.

    So the Aeon is faster than the Thunder right?

      No. I did the same engrave file on both machines and they finished at the same time. I am going to do a full blown engrave speed vid this week.

      It was best to use it because it has built in mic and when we were just using the audio mic on iPad it wasn't enough. It was a good workaround for a mic.

    Hey just so you know both of these are DSP lasers, which means your computer doesn’t have to be connected while the job is running.
    In LightBurn you can press ‘Send’ and give the job a name, and this will transmit the file to the controller, which lets you then load it and frame/run from the controller ‘offline’

    • @alishapate6550
      @alishapate6550  Před 3 lety

      Correct. I always do the send and then load the next job in Lightburn.

    This is funny. How can you compare Mira vs Nova 😂 Aeon has Nova series that would be a better comparison. Please advice on a new video. Sorry if I came out too rude but people might get a wrong message which is not right. Its like comparing BMW 3 series vs Mersedes S class and saying that Mercedes is better brand. In my opinion it is 😂

    • @benjie9449
      @benjie9449 Před 6 měsíci

      Exactly. I'm pretty sure the Nova or super nova series would blow thunder out of the water when comparing apples to apples.
