I saw this last night. For those unaware, our friend Christopher has autism. The book starts with him wanting to find out who killed his neighbor's dog, Wellington. This show is brilliant and amazing at representing autism. However, I would strongly advise against taking an autistic person to see it. It's not insulting or anything, but one thing it really latched onto showing is over stimulation. Meaning when someone touched Christopher (Something many autistic people struggle with) The lights would flash, it would get loud, and he would scream. The point was probably to show how it felt. If I took my brother, or any of my friends (Who are, for the most part, autistic to some level), they would have had to leave before intermission. That being said, the show captures the book and the story very well. The characters and the thoughts of said characters are shown very well. Christopher's many quirks are done well, and are accurate to the people I see in my life. For instance, when he kinda...goes into his own world, it is shown as he would see it. Phenomenal show.

if anyone is being forced to read the book here is basically the whole thing: Christopher is an autistic 15-year-old boy living in Swindon. He documents everything in his book which is what we read. He has a photographic memory and he hates everything yellow or brown. He's obsessed with prime numbers and math. He lives with his dad and his mom is "dead". One day, he finds his ( Mrs. shears) neighbor's dog dead and stabbed with a garden fork (the neighbor's dogs name is called wellington). The cops come and they ask him questions and then the policeman touches him so he freaks out and hits him (he doesn't like being touched). The cops bring him to the police station where his dad has to bail him out. Then he takes it upon himself to find out who killed the dog. He spends time investigating and getting clues and asking people. One day Christopher is being difficult so his dad hits him and then later apologizes. Then one day his dad finds out about him investigating and gets angry at him so he hides his book that he writes in. Christopher is upset so he goes looking for it and finds it but he also finds letters from his mother from after she died. Later on, he confronts his dad about it and he admits that his mother actually left them because they fought a lot and the mother couldn't put up with Christopher. He reveals she is alive and living in London with Mr. Shears and that he himself killed Wellington. Christopher gets mad and he runs away to London to be with his mother. Then, in the end, the Mom and Christopher go back to live Swindon and he visits his father every day.

I actully auditioned to play christopher for that show. I got a callback and it was down to me and 2 other people, obviously i didnt get the role. But I went with my brother and it was amazing, so fun and very differanrt then any other play I saw or was in. I'm a theatre kid, so I have been acting in theatre since i was little. But this play and I read the book as well. My brother is autistic. He has a very mild bit of it. So he was fine. But I also have a little brother who is more suvere, to autism. I dont have it all which is a little weird since my older brother and little brother have it. But me, the middle kid nope🤣. I loved the show and how the lights and how he was drawing on the screen. The effects. All fantastic. I didnt even know this show was ever on broadway. maybe one day i can see it their. The times when i saw it. In a community theatre and the second in a school production. All the voices and extras were on stage and played christophers throughs and reactions and left the stage so they can change into the other character christopher would react with.

This is possibly the play i will perform for my scripted peice. I am making sure i do a lot of research so i can accuratly portray the character. My teacher had recomended this to me but it does seem like a difficult role :)

I have autism and this book is such a middle finger to some really social autistic kids like myself and others, honestly most kids ive met that have high functioning autism do not speak the obvious like this, it was super annoying to see how they portrayed chris...(Seriously wtf)
