  • In this penultimate stage of my walk across Europe, I set out from Thessaloniki to follow the E4 Trail down through the Peloponnese Peninsula and across the island of Crete. However, things gets off to a bad start and I end up using public transport to link Mount Olympus, Meteora and Delphi.

    Amazing video Ashley! So sorry you got mugged, but you made a good call and pressed on. I'm currently reading "How To Think Like A Roman Emperor" by Donald Robertson, the Stoic Philosophy of Marcus Aurelius, and much of that philosophy came out of Greece. Great stuff that stoic philosophy. I loved the color of the ocean in Crete, my son kayaked in Corfu back in the 90's and he said it was incredible! Thank you for the wonderful video! Sincerely, Ossie

      Thank you Ossie. Yes Greece is a fantastic place, so much of history and storytelling came from there. Thanks again, take care, Ashley

    Thanks to the inspiration of your previous videos I walked across most of Crete this spring and it was really enjoyable, thank you.
    Also having walked in Crete myself now it is amazing to see how you edited weeks of walking in just a few minutes.

    Wow through Romanian no problem and mugged in Greece.. I once walked from the train station of my hometown amsterdam with a big backpack; that didn't feel very nice at all!
    You put in some great hiking. I too would have difficulty with roadwalking just to keep it pure.

    Hi Ashley - love your videos. Thank you for sharing your adventures. What time of year did you go to Crete? I am from Canada and thinking of going over Christmas - so I know to expect snow in the Mountains and will be ok with it :-). How were the accommodation choices in the mountainous parts? Which is was your favourite part of the trail and which would you recommend for a week of walking?

    thanks for the video. how common were stream crossings/ponds or other potable water sources for taking drinking water in the mountains around olympus in the fall when you visited?

    • @AshleyGDean
      @AshleyGDean  Před 2 lety

      Hey, thanks for watching. My memory's a little hazy on that area now but I don't remember water being an issue. I filled up in Litochoro (in my accommodation) and I think there was plenty of water available in the refuge near the top. I think all the stream crossings were by bridge but I'm sure you could get down to the stream easily in places. I can only speak for the Litochoro - Mytikis trail though.

    Thank you for sharing Ashley! Truly inspirational video! Haha by the end of your journey in Greece you learnt about the gypsies, the ones who most likely stole your money in Thessaloniki. I am planning to hike the Peloponnese section this upcoming summer as I grew up in there. I'll contact you if I have any questions about the route. Best of luck!
