Some young males have that level of hate or apathy in them. They get older, you see them picking on kids, slamming kids into walls, etc. It is not really understood.

He had no business in their house in the first place. Being allowed to do whatever he wanted to do. The parents should’ve been prosecuted. He was out of control because his parents were out of control.

Sometimes people put the blame 4a young child because they think that kid won't be punished as bad as they would as an adult.

If he was punished when he hurt the 6 week old baby maybe he wouldn't have gone to prison. Him getting by with his first crime just gave him permission to go ahead and comitt more crimes.
He was, though. He was removed from his family and put in the foster system and group homes. Both are infamous for how horrible it is for children to grow up like that. How it taking a firstgrader away from his family not a punishment from his point of view?
Yeah group homes are definitely lock up for a child. So he was punished. But still he’s not repentant.

But he is not murdering anymore. He is raising his children well enough to not have run into any issues with the law there despite clearly having some watchful eyes on him. What, is he not allowed to be a father now even though he did nothing wrong to the kids he's a father to?

I know that I prefer a justice system who tries to teach that literal child better over one who kills him or throws him to the wolves! I know that I prefer a justice system who doesn't set the precedent that children can cut off from a future or redemption completely. Especially because even if this child is guilty, others may not be.

I know taking care of sick family members it’s hard enough but knowing that your brother, parents, and you have to suffer all this hardships because of a criminal I don’t know how they can control their anger.
I feel like he did what he did to the baby because he didn’t want to get caught, and the baby crying made him panic so he beat him to shut him up because even after the incident he continue to get in trouble and ended up in prison so he was already started at a young age to commit crimes.
And you can’t tell me an adult doesn’t remember something like that that they did at six. He knows just won’t admit it. Maybe not even to himself but he knows. Too bad because it would have been nice to hear a true apology.

Me too. Recently, I’ve been so sad about my Mom suffering from confusion in her old age but at least I’ve had a Mom with me all my life. And I still have her now.
All these years later and he is still in semi denial and lying about what he did ! Oh yeah, he just put the baby on the bed. Remember the injuries and the witness show a different story. He's trying to convince himself when he repeats ,"I'm not that person ," several times. He is that person. He proved it by continuing to be criminal.

Also, its one thing with your own kids but when I used to babysit, if there was an infant that used a crib, any time I put the baby in for a nap or for the night I stayed in whatever room the crib was in. I felt it was my job. And I started at 12 years old. When the parents left, I locked the doors and windows. We didn't have cell phones but I love to read so I never got bored. Most of them had a baby monitor but I was more concerned about the sounds they didn't make.Even if I was in the living room or bathroom if someone came in from outside I would hear it.
I haven't heard the babysitter's side but I am intrigued to learn her view of the incident.

For those commenting that the babysitter did this to Ignacio, please take the time to research the case, before commenting ignorant things and assassinating her character. The babysitter was Ignacio’s older sister - his sibling, and it’s incredibly insensitive to accuse her of harming her brother. There’s a PBS Frontline documentary that you can watch called Little Criminals. That documentary provides more insight into this case, and there’s plenty of articles about this case on the Los Angeles Times. Brandon admitted to harming the baby at 6 years old, and even demonstrated HOW he did it on a doll, during his interrogation. Honestly, Brandon has had over 3 decades to think about this, and he can’t even have enough dignity and self-respect to be honest and admit that he harmed Ignacio during his interview with the News Reporter?! I find that absolutely disgusting and deplorable. He has had an opportunity to do significant things - have children, hold a job, shower on his own, have his cognitive abilities in tact - while Ignacio is prisoned by his traumatic brain injuries and will never know a life of true independence, and will always depend on his family for basic care. The fact that Brandon claims he can’t remember and admits no wrong doing, demonstrated no remorse or true compassion, and has never even offered a sincere apology to the family - he should be ashamed of himself. Even after he had time to reflect on it, and sent a follow-up statement to the news station, he still fell short of any true acknowledgment or apology. I pray that he is riddled with guilt and shame for what he did for the rest of his life. He knew right from wrong - even at 6 years old - and as a grown adult man, he couldn’t even own up and take accountability for his actions, and that’s so insulting and disrespectful to the Bermudez family.

You can't forgive someone who lies about what they did.
Truth, the whole truth, is the only form actual justice takes.
Forgiveness is something you give to find peace for yourself. You don’t even have to offer the forgiveness to the person. Unfortunately there is nothing (not even complete honesty) that one can do to make forgiving truly possible when you have done something unimaginable. Just like an abusive relationship, you will never ever get what you want or need from that person. , it’s on you to know you don’t deserve abuse and you have to save yourself from it. Not forgiving gives that action and person control over you. You can still be sad, mad, etc. about it but if you are able to remind yourself you already forgave them I you are really loving yourself. I have had unspeakable things done to me and I forgive whole heartedly. It still hurts sometimes, but I deserve to move on.

No such thing as a 6 year old criminal. How would you punish a 6 year old when their brains aren't even fully developed until they're around 21? He was punished for his future crimes, so that's not an issue.
A 6 year old would need intensive therapy when they do something like this. Specially-trained adjudication panels could then review yearly until he is 18 in order to make sure he hasn't developed sociopathy, or psychopathy, or other serious mental disorders. These could be caught early and the courts could add on another three years of mandated treatment until he turned 21.
Maybe we should mandate prison for anyone who first learns to crawl and then shoves a piece of Lego into a newborns mouth? Instead we hold their guardians to account if they're proven negligent. How does it help to ask a 30-something year old if he feels guilty about something he did when he was a 6 year old, especially in front of news cameras? Today's internet would edit that interview down to a five second clip of "Yes, I killed the baby", to forever remain online.

👨⚖️ ~ The victim family is somewhat lucky that the cops figured out who did it. Imagine if they had thought it was the family that hurt the child out of anger. So many people would not believe that a random person to come in the house and abuse a baby like that. I’m assuming Sandra wasn’t the babysitter… So there was a babysitter there, and Sandra, a family friend, accompanied this six year old who broke into the house, into the room and watched him beat the baby and did nothing? It makes no sense. If she was the babysitter and she came up with that story as her second version of events, that she saw him attack the baby, then she’s definitely guilty.
What 6yr old is wondering by themselves to even get them into a situation like this!!😮

If he was told from a young age that he was innocent then even if he did do the crime he would believe he was innocent and therefore would pass lie detector methods.

Even as a grown adult, the person who attacked the baby claims to have "no responsibility" and has "nothing to apologize for", remember that...never forget that people who attack those who are weaker have no sense of moral obligation. They are extremely dangerous and if given the opportunity they will act in the same way in the future. They have no sense of guilt or shame AT ALL.
Why hasn't the state provided home health care? This situation isn't about parents knowingly accepting developmental disabilities during pregnancy. This baby was healthy at birth but became a victim of attempted murder. The state should compensate the young man and his family for care. What will happen when the parents are no longer here? People often view babies with disabilities as just infants, but they grow into adults, and care becomes more challenging. Many Americans receive disability benefits yet function in society, while those who truly need it struggle. I understand the family’s anger but I also can understand that convicting a six year old isn’t justified either. I remember being six (I’m 48 now) and children that young doesn’t see beyond the moment. He wanted to shut the baby up so that he didn’t get in trouble but didn’t realize at that split second that it would cause serious life-long harm or death.
I don't know, but maybe the mother is being paid by the state to be his caregiver? In CA it's called In Home Supportive Services. She probably doesn't trust anyone else outside the family to watch and proper care for her child who can't defend himself. Hopefully it's available in NV.
Either way, I pray for them and that Ignacio is always safe and properly cared for. So tragic.
He is eligible and am sure his family is getting disability assistance for the 24 hour care (In home Support Services) he needs. It is a good program.

After all these years he still refuses to admit what he did. He claims to pick the baby up and put him on the bed only but don’t remember harming the baby?! That’s a lot of bullcrap! Branden seems slow and if this family can have enough courage to say they forgive he should have enough courage to say I’m sorry whether he remembers it or his brain blocks it out. He hast to acknowledge that no one else could have done that to the baby but him.
My heart broke to see the survivors of that horrible thing that happened! How the son suffers every moment, the parents so hurt still, the sweet Mamma sobbing, and the younger siblings who will bear the burden to provide tremendous care after the parents are gone. So much respect for this family that they kept their son at home with them and did not institutionalize him!
And that attacker......that was an interview that left me cold. I do not believe one word he says. I wonder what he saw at home that led him to believe the way he acted was the way to go do.
Honestly, as much as I felt for these victims, I have no idea why this new company would go dredging all of this up again? The attacker was caught and paid prices, not that it even began to make it up to the victims.

I know families of people who have been murdered usually like when things get brought up years later because they want their family member to be remembered. This family may have been happy to do the interview so that people can see how this has changed their lives and that they are still living with this.
We have free will. Why couldn’t they say “no” if it was too painful. They chose to do the interview. They weren’t accosted.

My child is 3, and his cousin is 1, and when they get close to each other, sometimes his cousin pulls his hair (he's going through a hair pulling phase), and we understand. My son will just try to get away he won't hit him or pull his hair back. And I asked him once why don't you pull his hair back... he motioned with his hands that his cousin was little. Of course, I teach my son to defend himself, but I don't want him fighting with his little cousin, especially since he's only one. I was just curious why, when I asked the question.

Also, the journalist says his 18 year old sister was babysitting. Later, a sister and brother are interviewed. The sister was a toddler when the attack happened. She says that her "brothers" will marry and she feels that she must care for Ignacio. The brother in the interview states that he won't be in a relationship in which his partner won't agree to care for Ignacio. So...1 brother isn't part of the interview. Normal. But who is the 18 year old sister who was caring for Ignacio when the attack happened? I agree 💯 % this is horrible. Why do the journalists spin certain or don't back up parts of the story? Does it not fit into the special that is shown to everyone else? It makes me question the story. I can research it more on my own hopefully.
everything that went on except for beating his baby just kind of strange to me... not having no feelings for what he did now as a grown up . just was heartbreaking to watch him with no regret... that's okay he don't have to ask for forgiveness but.. we will all stand before God and answer... he should ask God for forgiveness he's grown now

I noticed that the baby sitter was conspicuously absent from the documentary. Im not going to jump to conclusions unless I learn much more though. Hopefully there's a book about it. It would be interesting to know if Brandon had a history of prior violence against people or animals. Isolated incidents are rare. Im also wondering if he was a violent teenager. I also wonder why the babysitter did not hear Brandon and his friend come into the house and how long was the baby crying before she went to check. The crying no doubt turned to screams when the assault began but she didnt approach the room until Brandon was done and running out.
I honestly can't understand who would leave a door unlocked with a sleeping infant in the apartment, especially if you are out of earshot from the baby's cries? Just so many questions. That poor, dear young man is fortunate to have his loving family. I wish the best for Ignacio and those who love and care for him for all of his days.

6 year olds know to be gentle an kind to a baby, he is not an innocent choir boy , also after working in social services, yes there are 6 year olds and similar ages who can indeed be very cruel and abusive.
If he was 6 years old, he should have been supervised so that couldn't happen. And the baby shouldn't have been without an adult protecting him.

As an adult he may not want to remember but he definitely can remember what he did at six years old, especially something that big. Some people just cannot say “I’m sorry for what I did”. Some will not take ownership of their crimes.
This is very strange. I would need more in depth details on where the babysitter was at the time. The other child that witnessed the young boy beat the baby. I want to know the history on the young boys life before the incident. For all we know the babysitter could have a hand in this. We don't have really much to go on just that the 6 year old did it.
