When I was a kid, the milk barn down the road had a BIG bug zapper that had a kind of liquid fly attractant in it. I think it was about 2 1/2 feet tall, and choked with flies. They blew it out about once a week with an air hose, but overall flies were minimal in the parlor. Think the brand was "Stinger". That was in about 1984, and whatever that attractant liquid was smelled something like sickly- sweet almonds. Maybe it would help you if they still make it.
Another great video Jan ,always wondered why your outside pens do not have roof shelters on all the pens as it would be a big saving on bedding plus a lot warmer on cows and a canopy from sun in summer ,just a thought
I do look for your video and I got so excited...I know you are busy but really truly thankful to get to see another world and of course love to see your ladies as well!!!!! :))
Great to see you back vlogging - You were missed by your viewers. A lot of new & interesting information presented today.. I When I retired 128 years ago moved South from Boston to Central Florida to avoid the Cold & Snow. Your drone footage gave me chills seeing the snow so early. Thanks for sharing this excellent vlog 🚜 🚜 🚜🐄🐄🐄🐄 🚜 🚜 🚜
Hi Jan! It’s a chilly day in Indianapolis!! We are ready for Florida!!! The barn is beautiful. I’m a bit jelly!! And I love to see the girls moving along quickly!!!
Jan do miss you when your gone. Still follow you on a regular basis. Somehow you have grown on me. I even think your looking more grown but still good looking as ever. Be safe. Tom in Minneapolis
Nov need to apologize for fewer videos. This time of year is super busy for you and any videos are appreciated. You taking the time to make them is pretty generous of you. Thanks. Trees are just shedding their leave here in northern Pennsylvania. Will probably get snow in a few weeks. New barn addition and milk parlour upgrades seem pretty cool.Great video Jan. Till next time, peace.
Grew up at a small dairy farm in central Minnesota (35 head dairy cows). We had chickens, pigs, and lots of kids, (there were 9 of us). Farming is hard work. You guys work very hard I’m sure! Love the videos!
Jan, You are a wonder. I suppose now that you got your run in the news tractors you'll be wanting one - or two - just to play with all the knobs and buttons. Good video, Jan. as always such a great thing to see your farm and all you do there. Cold does come, but really early for you. Take care, Jan we all wait for "...next Time."
I noticed that you haven't been posting a lot of videos lately, but don't worry your sister has been picking up the slack for you with her video channel😂
Yep drove to Meadow in snow a couple weeks ago and woke up to snow at home last week. Thanks for the new video it was great as usual. Hopefully the doors get on before the snow really starts flying.
It was great to see another video from you. I have been eagerly anticipating this. I have so many questions that I want to ask about your family etc. Have you done a video talking about your family and stuff?
I grew up in upstate NY. I hate the snow. I live in NC it snows here every now and gain that’s too much for me. But when it does snow it’s gone by noon.
That heat strip is a good ida. We could use one for our garage. Please don't talk about the coming days of -30 and -40; too soon we will have many days of them.🤦♀️ I hope we don't have any days of -44 or a snow storm like we had November 8th.🥶
I have been farming here in the west of Ireland for years. And raised all my children on unpasteurized milk and they have all grown up very healthy adults
Here in the US, it's illegal for a dairy farm to sell unpasteurized milk. In Pennsylvania, to get around the law, a person that wanted unpasteurized milk could buy a milk cow and pay the dairy to feed, house and milk their cow for them and pick the milk up whenever they wanted it. Excess milk was sold back to the dairy.
@@bobjohnson1710 I’m in Massachusetts, and it is legal to buy raw milk directly from the farm on which it is produced! But they can’t sell it in the markets.
@@amandapereira3635 Pursuant to this authority, the FDA regulates the sale of milk in interstate commerce according to rules prescribed in its unpasteurized milk regulation, which provides that “no person shall cause to be delivered into interstate commerce or shall sell, otherwise distribute, or hold for sale or other distribution after shipment in interstate commerce any milk or milk product in final package form for direct human consumption unless the product has been pasteurized. …”10
I like how unique your name is!! I have been watching for a while and I wanted to know if you could show some more videos of when you clean the barns a little more? It is really cool to watch..
Just wondering why you don't breed some of the "Ladies" with a beef breed for a beefier surplus animal for slaughter. Love your videos. You do a very good job.
She has her own channel as well! It’s A Dairy on the Prairie, where she talks about the other animals they have, as well as the cows, milking, calf feeding etc!!
Hey Jan how do you know how deep you have to go before you are at sand or dirt when you take out manure? In my stables its easy i Just put the bucket on the pavement but are you guessing or can you see how deep you have to scrape?
So I've been wanting to try dairy farming, but i was told that i wouldn't like it, cause the whole operation has a very strong smell.. I'm a bit down about it bc i love cows. So I'm on the lookout for a place that will let me volunteer my time on three weekends..
Snow? Wow already? We are back with you and sis,,we have been away and traveling...so many cows are happy with the new clamp to hold the cups straight... 🙂 Nice
