    Dear Budget Boosting.
    I just want to clarify - The biggest factor on compressed air heat up is the act of compression itself: from ideal gas law pV=nRT => T=pV/nR, nR is constant (number of moles times gas constant) so T~pV, as we are not changing the volume any rise in pressure must bring a rise in temperature (and in real life it's more complicated than this). Convection might play a role but a very small one. ;-)

    • @budgetboosting
      @budgetboosting  Před 9 lety

      akkudakkupl Nice write up. This particular engine is quite difficult to keep intake temperatures cool since the intake is right above the exhaust every trick I can do to keep inlet temperatures down helps. I also wrapped the exhaust and turbine section with heat insulation wrap to help but convection does overrule after the engine has operated 30 minutes or more. The large intercooler helps some but I will come up with more ideas in the future to separate the temperatures better from the intake above exhaust manifold system. I will be getting a custom twin turbo header to run twin T04e turbochargers on this car and this design leaves more room between intake and exhaust manifolds so it will make more room for heat shielding techniques to combat the heat rise that evaporates a lot of my fuel mixture when engine has been running for 30 min or more. Thanks for watching and inputs and comments are always welcome.

    What about positioning or clocking the intake side on the turbo? I heard it has to be in a certain spot or else you won’t get proper oil circulation

    Awesome vid! great info, now I have a better understanding on blow through turbo charging, my concern is on my 2.3 n/a ford engine, I was wondering if you need to attach the turbo to the intake manifold where the carb is or you can place it on where the exhaust manifold is, like in the efi svo engines..???

    Hi Matt, absolutely love your channel. Cant believe i stumbled across it after spending ages thinking about what to do with my Datsun 280c. now i have decided to turbo it! and finding your channel which shows exactly how to boost an l28 carb is amazing. i am very grateful for all this valuable information. I am now starting to collect the required equipment to start this job, I'm having trouble locating an l28 turbo manifold. we didn't get turbo l28s delivered to Australia that i know of so finding one locally is proving very difficult. do you have any ideas where else i could look?

    • @budgetboosting
      @budgetboosting  Před 9 lety

      Matty Greig The R30 Skylines from around 1981 to 1984 had L20ET inline six engines which were imported to Australia, the exhaust manifolds do bolt right up. The majority of external engine parts are interchangeable between L20, L24, L26 and L28 engines. The 80's Nissan Laural and Leopards were also imported by some there and they had L20ET or L28ET engines in them. Since cars over 25 years old are easy to import, you can find them. Many wrecking yards in Japan and the U.S. have 280zx turbo cars from 1980 to 1983 and their stock exhaust manifolds will mount practically any T3 turbocharger, the only limit is the distance between intake and exhaust manifolds. Yahoo auctions Japan and Ebay are great sources to get L28ET turbo exhaust manifolds. Sometimes you can get lucky and score old HKS or Trust turbo headers for L28 engines. Let me know how your search goes.

    • @budgetboosting
      @budgetboosting  Před 10 lety

      f rod If your fuel pump keeps up with the fuel demand of the carburetor, electric pump is not necessary. Having an electric pump by the tank and still retaining the mechanical pump as a back up would be best. Electric pump ever goes out, still have the mechanical one to get you back home.

      The difference will be how your carb handles boost. Specific blow through carbs have provisions to raise fuel flow with boost. With a large carb hat, your carb should work fine though.

    If I have 3 single barrel carbs on my 200 inline 6, could i blow through all 3 of them? Or will I have to make a 4 barrel adapt to my engine?

    • @budgetboosting
      @budgetboosting  Před 7 lety

      You could try it by finding a way to pressurize float bowls while going up on boost and having solid floats instead of the light aluminum ones. If it works good, if not, there is always the blow through carburetors. C&S specialties makes custom ones and can find new in the box ones at Summit. A 4 barrel manifold is much easier than synchronizing 3 carbs with boost.

    • @joshuaweston9882
      @joshuaweston9882 Před 7 lety

      +NickRC1, use extra piping to move the turbo further away from the manifold, boost difference won't be that different if you don't use a intercooler, inter coolers are basically useless in blow through turbos, the pressure difference by the time it's slammed down the carb the air is already cool enough. number two is always fit a blow off valve if running anything higher than 10 psi or you will kill your engine.
      I would recommend using mechanical fuel injected carb if you know how to correctly tune and know turbo pressure, gives an edge to the induction

    • @budgetboosting
      @budgetboosting  Před 7 lety

      yes the sbc could meet your goals with pump gas. Check out Nelson Racing engines, he has small block Chevy twin turbo engines putting out that kind of power on pump and some way higher with 100+ octane fuels. They have great engine dyno videos to watch that prove it can be done. NRE does charge big money for their engines so DIY would be cost effective.

    Hey Matt,
    You don't have to sell me on turbos ! I am one of those unlucky souls that has a 1982 Chevy Silverado with a 6.2 and it doesn't have a turbo so as you know it has to shift down to go over a speed bump ! A year ago I had someone turn it up and he put a one tone manifold on it because it was a California truck. The manifold opened up the air inlet from an inch and a half to almost 3 inches. Man I want a turbo but, money is an issue . Fortunately turbos have come down in price which helps but finding an exhust manifold that works with my airconditioning is hard so I have been told. I love the truck and liked it better after they turned it up but I went from 23-26 mpg down to 15-18 mpg. Is there any way to win the battle with this ? I would love to know !

    • @budgetboosting
      @budgetboosting  Před 8 lety

      +cody cheney Intake and exhaust modifications to help it breathe easier would be a great help for your truck. The factory exhaust system has very heavy restrictive mufflers and catalytic converters that really congest the inner performance and economy. Summit racing sells great free flow cats if you have to run them, and thrush welded mufflers are light and very free flow to replace the heavy boat anchor stock mufflers. Summit also has some bargain intake air cleaner kits that really free up intake. I remember when I built my first turbo kit, I slowly acquired the parts and then when I had everything I needed, I started the build. One step at a time since costs of some things are quite expensive.

      @codycheney3401 Před 8 lety

      Hey thanks ! I have been trying to get things one at a time but manifolds are really hard to find at a reasonable price. EBay has some decent priced turbo but I don't know what size to get because my truck doesn't have a brain to set things. Oh well an inch at a time to get horsepower is worth it
      I have the 700 r4 trans built ready for the horsepower and it works well. It's finding the turbo andanifold to set the turbo on is the hard part. I can't wait for some monster burnouts ! Have a good day and if you k ow a better place to find an exhaust manifold that would be greatly appreciated !

Carters are great carburetors and very reliable.

      in the end I still wont spend as much on it as I would if I bought a 572 and I would have more power...I'm going to start the search for a cheap 383 and see what happens. Thanks for the complement.
