RISE OF THE RONIN is The HARDEST Game of 2024

- Hey, I have started playing this game since launch and it has almost everything I could have opted for. Rise of the ronin takes inspiration from both the Nioh Series and Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty. Though some people might just want Team Ninja to make Nioh 2, I am quite happy they are trying different things instead of sticking to just doing one thing. While this game plays well and has smooth movement, the highlight for me is the difficulty and more noticeably, the unlockable skills/abilities. Guys, this game is very hard and it has nothing to do with me playing on the Hardest difficulty (Twilight). The moment you have to face more than 1 enemy, you are automatically at a disadvantage, especially if you are facing 2 elites.
Not only that, but the enemies sometimes attack relentlessly and unless your parry game is on point, you are going to get folded within seconds. The final boss in the video gave me a hard time because they kept mixing up the red attacks and tend to punish you heavily for overcommitting since they have super armor. You can’t be too agressive and you can’t be too patient. This is exactly the type of challenge I was looking for. At times, the game could appear to be “unfair” but either we are playing it the wrong way or we are under-leveled.
And when it comes to the ps3 comparaisons….Just Stop.

This game GOES HARD... nit pickers and just tripping. Graphics are nowhere near as bad as they say... and I'm not feeling any frame rate drops... just enjoying the 33hrs I've put into the game so far😂
This is what happens when you don’t base your opinions off twitter threads and actually play the damn game 🦍
@Djisso yeah most reviewers are pathetic. the don't have their own opinion. they watch each others review its most monkey see monkey do. and most if not all are dishonest and money driven.
Game is 🔥😚👌
I don't know why but this game feels super hard.. think maybe the parry window is a bit too tight.. and im already like 15 hours deep..it is completely addictive tho.. really good combat.. just wish i was better at it lol
It’s not just that ,but there are so many different parry windows which for me is hard to get used to ,I play trying to dodge basic enemies but try the parry more on bosses
Nah mate… the enemy rolling jumping and occasionally step dancing before eventually hitting me is what throws me off. How do you expect me to parry if you keep delaying your attacks for 10 seconds 💀
@@Djisso lmao
Right!? I see the red flash and I parry, but I go to soon. So I wait a second the next time, but I’m too late. I feel like the only time I ever get it right is by accident lol. When I try to time it perfectly I just miss 😂
I came back to this comment to say that it was a skill issue. After putting in more hours I became used to the parry timing and now I am like a Ronin God with the odachi..So if anyone sees this and is struggling then just keep putting the hours in. The combat just keeps getting better.
Gotta luv how low they health is and yet the ememy still blocks everything like wtf is dat 😂😂
I knew you would like this one Djisso! My favorite combat since Sifu.
Hopefully you preordered so you have access to the Nioh stance. I honestly can’t believe how great of a time I’m having.
IGN giving mirage an 8/10 and this a 7/10 should haunt IGN until the end of time.
The Nioh Stance might actually be the best one while using a katana since the parry actually feels like a casual block instead of that other animation. And also, Ki charge 🥹
I love sifu just played it an hour ago. I'm playing stellar blade demo now I'm loving the combat in this game to.
Check out the Way of the Samurai series if you liked this game.
The one complaint I have so far is that I don't like the guns and how they shoot. The bullet looks like a glowing nerf dart.
“Glowing Nerf dart” 🤣😭🤣
What the actual hell 💀
@@Djisso 😂 it does like when I shoot it feels so slow. I feel like I could run faster than the bullet
What I don't like about the gun and bow is you can't really lock on with them. Even if you had the target locked on before, from the time you select the gun or bow the lock on disappears and you basically got to free aim which makes it then difficult for moving targets.
@@davidtsmith33 I've noticed that too
@@XXLechero Yeah it's a bummer. I wish the lock on remained on the target for range weapons. That's a big drawback for them and why I more stick to swords etc.
I think what took me the longest to figure out in this game is that you can block and parry simultaneously 😂😂 could have saved myself half the struggle also with this mission if you go anti shogunate and have trained with genzui you could of had him as an ally and he is one of the most useful in my opinion ..
Hey Djisso, you can hit different enemies while you are locking on one. You can change that in the settings.
I play the game in german but the menu point is under controlls and should be called something like "Move analog stick, to choose the attack direction while locking"
After changing that when an enemy is nearby and you press attack and the left stick in the direction of the enemy, you attack this enemy despite locking on another one.
This is most definitely not the hardest game it's a challenging game but not the hardest
It is the hardest until Elden Ring drops another banger ☕️
I'm gonna save up, just to get both Rise of the Ronin and Dragon's Dogma 2.
Best choice both of em are fun imo I have a hard time playing one or the other I've been back and forth constantly
The best way to choose is to pick all the options, Everytime.
@@Djisso Exactly
I'm having loads of fun with this one, was discussing with my friends and they're also of the same opinion.
Graphically I think it looks really nice in a lot of areas like the tree's, foliage and some of the lighting. In some other areas the graphics aren't as good for instance I don't think any of the water looks great and some of the stone textures used on walls and builds are very flat basically a texture map placed over a flat surface with a few raised bits.
But gameplay wise, game structure wise, variety of activities, story based and companion missions I'm really enjoying it. There also seems to be lots of other systems that I haven't properly engaged with yet.
Still getting used to the counterstrike system in combat, played too much Sekiro and keep reverting back to the left bumper for block and parry.
AI is a bit dodgy on the the stealth stuff, enemies have zero awareness at times. If Team Ninja could patch anything that would be the thing I'd like patched.
They tend to have two separate buttons for blocking and parrying and I think that extra layer is unnecessary. Just have one button do both Blocking and parrying, just like Sifu and Sekiro did
Other than that, I completely agree with you. The game isn’t going to win any awards for its art direction but the gameplay is quite fun and there is an incentive to getting familiar with its mechanics. I also think they should double back on builds and giving people more freedom with combat. I loved Nioh for that reason : You could be anything you wanted and it made replay-ability a no brainer. I feel like I don’t have the same level of freedom in ROTR and it sucks
@@Djisso yeah I do prefer the one button for both. Haven’t played SIFU but it worked great in Sekiro, created a proper feeling of clashing swords.
Love this game so far but I think it's the easiest of their last several titles after a little under 40 hours. I'm playing on Twilight/Hard and still haven't felt as challenged as I'd been at any point in Nioh. But I'm hoping that Midnight difficulty you unlock after the story is complete will give me something closer to that level.
It's definitely more forgiving than Nioh
Do you also feel like the loot doesn’t really do much in this game ? I used to carefully pick my armor sets and bonuses in Nioh but here… I feel like it is irrelevant and It all comes down to how good one can be at countering…
Also, being able to 1v3 bosses is also overkill. I don’t think the next difficulty will alter my experience but lets see
@@Djisso I agree with all of that. And I feel like taking away the weight element plays a big role in why things feel that way now. It's very much attempting to move away from the souls-like genre in order to expand the audience, but I feel like it misses the mark on why their games have been so beloved so far.
The game looks good i might try it out.
Lets go !
i fucking love this game but bruhhh aint nothing as hard as FFVII Rebirth Hard Mode atm. That shit is brutal.
Ff7 rebirth ain’t that bad just get barret to tank and max out your characters he’s such a great help for stagger then tifa can get in there and destroy HP bars and cloud is just there just because
The parry window needs to be a little longer. Other than that, it’s not too bad.
I think the problem is that in order to perform a parry, most of the time you really need to wait for the exact moment the enemy is about to make contact. I also think the enemies recovers their ki waaay too fast so you can’t even play passively. But at the same time they all have super armor so you can’t play too aggressively 😓
My answer : ODACHI - High Stance.
The parry window is longer on dawn mode for sure. Also different stances and weapons seem to make parrying easier imo like the shinobi stances or nioh ryu
The game is fun but there are some moments that seem a bit out of place like the first time you see a pilgram dog some random guy comes out of nowhere to tell you how the pilgrim dog works and then walks off at the end of the cut scene never to see him again it was almost too comical like something out of Kung Pow Enter the Fist lol
You're playing on the hardest difficulty aren't you? That could be why the game is more difficult or you're dying so often. I started on middle but changed to Easy and enjoying it more. I'm having a blast so far loving so much about the game. Just finished Gonzo so tomorrow first thing is continuing from there. Yeah Gonzo was difficult for me too. Didn't realise he healed. Took me a couple tries.
I'm getting wrecked on normal mode, the parry timing and animation is weird
He’s not playing on easy because he’s not a pussy
There is a skill that allows you to snatch your opponents healing items with your hook before they consume them
@@cartoonvideos5 Take my advice, For now put it on Easy mode. Ain't no shame in that. You will enjoy the game more with your current level. You can always change it later on if you wish.
@@davidtsmith33 I might do that if I get to a part that is too difficult
Put your camera on 1 or 0 and you can turn off auto lock on so you can slash freely!
Will give it a Try, Thanks!
For a second I thought I was playing Rise of the Jumpers
I was a little disappointed with this game. 😢 I thought it would be better. I’m glad you are enjoying it though
Fellow Nioh enjoyer here and I feel right at home. I wish there was more depth to the builds though
@@Djisso I completely agree. There isn’t enough exploration and heavy impact collectables for me. That is really it. Not that bad if a game though. Keep of the work I love your videos!
Usually Team Ninja games are games I want to love but don't. RotR, however, is awesome. For the first time they designed a really beautiful world and tell a very interesting story (to me at least).
The combat is excellent, like always, especially the parry mechanics. And since the open world setting allows you to practice virtually endlessly you have much better chances of getting good at it than when you die all the time like in Nioh. And the difficulty curve is pretty much perfect as well - orders of magnitude better than Nioh or Wo Long.
Well Said!
Personally, I think Wo Long is where Team Ninja truly dropped the ball. The level design wasn’t impressive so every single level ended up looking/feeling the same. The combat system was not appealing either. But the one thing I truly disliked was the flag mechanic. Looking around for a flag so that I can increase my morale ? I think it messed up the pace of game something ROTR doesn’t do since you have a lot of freedom over your actions and encounters
Yea midnight difficulty doesn’t play around
I’m getting sekiro vibes I loved that game
You might actually enjoy ROTR then 🤔
damn I want a first person "hard game" so hard
Doom Eternal Might like a word.
@@Djisso no I mean "beating up people" game, not "shooting demons" game. Although Doom Eternal is a good one too
I like this game. But the parry system is not as satisfying as in sekiro. Combos are true horror to parry, because it only matters if you get the last hit to parry.
No way this game is actually hard. I’ll know for myself soon enough.
Oh it’s hard even the dawn setting is a good challenge starting to think reviewers played that first 3 hours assumed and wrote a review! Too busy jumping the gun to glaze DD2. Everything that was said is either wrong or can be changed in the menu now if you don’t have a newer TV with VRR, ALLM, 120hz, hdmi 2.1 then you don’t have a clue to how these systems actually look and perform. I think that would a why people think Xbox looks better since it shows great on 1080p and older 4k sets, PS5 not as much when I upgraded my TV and HDMI cord I was literally mad 1 year plus I hadn’t even laid eyes on how it was suppose to look🤦🏾♂️
Be my Guest 🥋
The game is so much easier than Nioh 1 and 2.
I just leveled up a bit and I am starting to notice that as well
I don’t know abt this game
If You played Ninja Gaiden, Nioh or Wo long, you might want to check this one out
@@Djisso I did play wo long so I might check it out
The most unfairest game. Team Ninja create only stunlocking enemies. If you guard broke you die not more this studio is only lazy
Lol def not “HARD” by any means
Try playing on anything over normal lol and midnight difficulty is unlocked after beating the game
@@thegamewin100 lol yeah after Twilight
dude please stop saying nananana too much
Nanana.
Nanananana!
