  • Overlanding in Norway with friends that has met through the common and curious fascination of Land Rovers and camping.
    Overlanding in Norway on these roads during November shouldn't be possible. The roads should be closed many days ago because of snow, but here we are, driving on set roads.
    Camp in the dark as daylight is sets very early in Norway during this time of the year. But we get right into the action as we start out on Friday afternoon with a specific camp in mind, but for the rest of the trip we had to adjust due to an unforeseen happening in the area we were going.
    Overlanding in Norway is always a dream drive. We drive on some great dirt roads and get to see some amazing views in a ever changing climate and light. We have a quick stop at one of Northern Europes deepest mine as one of many that we were planning to visit.
    The best part is that Perry shows off his cooking skills on the second night, and I get to present to you the first ever full camp cooking segment on a Overlanding in Norway Series.
    I hope you all will enjoy the video as I have put all of my heart into it, and please do help spread the word and share the video. And as always, do like, comment and all of that to further help the channel out. 🤙
    Thank you and the best wishes to you,
    Simon Schybaj Mastermo 👍😊

    I was just watching the end of the preview and my phone died as I was typing. I was wanting to say that age is just a number and getting old is inevitable but growing old is a choice. These trips bring like minded folk together of all ages, stages and backgrounds and it's the 4x4 element which binds us all together no matter what your rig is. It's the shared experiences of where you go in it not what it is. But it should be a land rover otherwise you will not have shared our pain of ownership lol👍🏻 Now I need to start from the beginning as I missed the start but spoiler alert for the rest of you I loved all that I saw. 😁👍🏻

      Enjoy the rewatch and be sure to select 4K 😊 And you are so correct when it comes to age and how you feel, your really set the tone of the trip your self. Hans-Erik is one of the nicest and positive people I have met and he makes me laugh every time we meet up. 👍😊 We all have our past and baggage but it all doesn’t matter, it just makes for good stories around the fire at camp.
      Thanks for your support Simon and one day we will do a trip together. 😊

    I'm planning on moving to Norway and would love to go overlanding once I'm settled. I've got a Toyota hilux for a year now and it hasn't been off the pavement since the off roading scene is almost non existent where I live (Belgium). But I also didn't really have the time to begin with. Love the video.

      Hey and thank you! 😊 I don't think you will regret moving if you are into overlanding and free camping. No better place than Norway, in Europe, with the ever changing seasons and landscape. 🏔️👌 Simon

    Great video Simon. Glad the Pink Panther still lives on in Norway. Hope that Aquavit was real “Linie” version. Dead envious of that camp food and the whole trip. Glad you all had fun.

    • @LandRoverDrive
      @LandRoverDrive  Před 6 měsíci

      @billb3444 - I think Perry and I are on the line where you might or might not remember watching Pink Panther when growing up. My older brother introduced it to me to it. 😊 The Aquavit was good and warming and I'm not sure what is real and not real when it comes to that brand, so please enlighten me there. 👍 The whole trip was a blast and can't hoped for better camps and food, even though it was windy and raining a bit. 😊 Thank you and happy to share the trip with likeminded people. Simon

      @billb3444 Před 6 měsíci +1

      Hi Simon. Yep Pink Panther was always one of my favourite films. Linie Aquavit is a special type that is a result of the barrels being sent to sea on a ship which then goes on a long, sometimes circumnavigation, sea voyage then comes back to Norway. They say the gentle motion of the vessel brings out the spirits in the oak barrels it is stored in. I used to work on a lot of Wilhelmsen Line vessels that carried this cargo. Last ship had containers of it on deck and was on her way from Norway, USA and then Australia and back. If you get a bottle of “Linie” you can look through the bottle to the back of the label and it will say what vessel it went on and when. This has been going on for ages. I was given a bottle on my last Wilhelmsen Line ship which was very good of the Captain. Nothing like camping in bad weather. Any fool can go camping in good weather. Our last trip to Scotland we had 63kt winds which was “interesting” the dome tent survived the ordeal. Taking it down when the wind dropped to 35kts wasn’t too bad. The audience was disappointed. 😂 Keep on doing what you do. So much fun having mates to do things with. 🤣

    • @LandRoverDrive
      @LandRoverDrive  Před 6 měsíci

      Hi Bill, I saw your respons today, sorry. 😐 I think I have heard a bit of the story before but not in such details. Very cool and I now need to go get me a bottle for sure. And so cool that you have actually sailed with some of the bottles. 👌 Need to get my car on of those ships and stop of at both Australia, USA and for sure Scotland. 😊 Bad weather leads to much more interesting trips and you really appreciate the good times in the sun so much more. And winds being "interesting" is a good way to look at it. We are having interesting winds at the moment with a winter storm going on. I'm glad the tenkt was okay, and I bet it was fun to disappoint. 😂 How is the greenlaning in Scotland? I'm not sure of the rules over there. Simon

      @LandRoverDrive 100% Simon. I don't do half as much with my landover as I did 10 years ago, but still speak and see guys that were involved with #landrovers 20 years ago. Looking forward to a 3 week trip discovering Germany from the UK in May this year, and fingers crossed the cancelled Norway/Sweden trip from 2020 may be back on the cards on 2025. All the best, Mark

      @@discovering_adventures I think that is great and I hope I will be as lucky with my friends. 😊 Never been to Germany so don't have any tips, just heard free camping is kind of strict. And studded tires, they don't like them. 😂 I'm hoping to do my 40 year old trip in 2025, not sure in what, or where to, but it will be a trip with my brother and co. Just realised I should start planning. I hope you will get your trip to Norway next year.

    Some more gravel roads up north! Back then we only did the typical scenic roads like Panoramaveien, Peer Gynt and some others. Man do I miss Norway. What a landscape, and friendly people.

    • @LandRoverDrive
      @LandRoverDrive  Před 6 měsíci

      Norway is definitely never boring. I want to drive further north and explore but not sure when that will be. And I would like to drive all the way up into Finnmark, I have only been told how it looks up there and they say it is real different from where we live.
      When were you in Norway?

      @@LandRoverDrive Oh, a while ago, 2017. Was the first big trip with our LR3 bought in 2016. 2019 we had a large move, then the pandemic struck. Making plans to go there again this or next year latest!
      Need to check out if there's a ferry from Kiel to mid Norway, to save more boring kilometers.. otherwise drive up to Hirtshals, and then over to Bergen.

    • @LandRoverDrive
      @LandRoverDrive  Před 6 měsíci +1

      @DLR303 I read your comment, checked the map, and forgot about your comment, yesterday. 😂 If you get to Bergen, you can take the "Hurtigruten" further north. I think it goes all the way up north/east to Kirkenes. I would love to take it all the way to Kirkenes and then drive Norway down again. 👌

    • @Christian76S
      @Christian76S Před 6 měsíci +1

      @@LandRoverDrive No worries Simon. Yes, for me either driving all the way up from Germany and taking the lazy route back using several ships/ferries, or the other way round 🙂
      Besides that, making a roundtrip around the Baltic Sea and the Gulf of Bothnia would be one epic experience too.

    • @LandRoverDrive
      @LandRoverDrive  Před 6 měsíci +1

      For sure, I personally was thinking of that route but also go through Russia as well. But through Finland I think can be nice as well, but it’s so flat and so much forest so maybe get a bit boring after a while.
      We will see. I think boat up or down comes down to when you are doing your trip. Early summer, drive up and boat down, late summer/fall bout up and drive down. 😊 Rising the temperatures.
