On September 5, 1972, an attack began that would send shockwaves throughout the world. Eight armed insurgents would take 11 Israelis hostage during the 1972 Olympics. After a 20 hour standoff with the world watching helplessly, things would take a tragic turn that would result in the death of all hostages. This event, known infamously as the Munich Massacre, had lasting repercussions on an international scale, waking up Western governments to the global threat of terrorism.
Nearly 12 years later with the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics approaching, the FBI would be tasked with creating an elite unit designed to make sure an event like this never happened again…
Throughout the years, the FBI Hostage Rescue Team would participate in several crucial missions both domestic and abroad, which helped develop their purpose, skill sets, and overall mission. If you’d like to learn more about the FBI Hostage Rescue Team, watch this video!

decades ago, met an HRT guy through a Marine contact. yraah. badass
FBI HRT.. or how to get around posse comitatus...
I love how hostage rescue really just means “going room to room, killing everyone with a gun very accurately”
Except for the FBI, ATF they will kill your dogs and your family because MOST are idiots scared of their own shadows
Yeah. Dogs small boys and unarmed women. And we havnt got to Waco.

@@ThriftyCracker the Dog. Woman AND Boy was on ruby ridge!! We can't even count the responsibility for how many they killed in Waco!! I know what I'm talking about....
Not only did Delta Force train the HRT in Counterterrorism but the HRT’s members actually go through the Delta shooting course. Adjusted for mission importance the course for the HRT is called the New Operator Training School (NOTS). It’s the exact same shooting course that Delta uses except for mission differences.
HRT dive team members can and do attended a number of specialized training courses, everything from the dive portion of BUD/S, to part of the Marine Corps Scout Sniper School, to free fall parachute training (it's provided by a contractor). They also routinely conduct training with military and law enforcement counterterrorism units from the US and its allies, as well as conducting operations alongside US military special operations units.
@@dsumner1234 Okay...And that hardly means they're equal to or even better than your DoD tier 2 units such as the Rangers.
They train with DELTA, but they do not attach themselves to DELTA as "shooters," OCONUS. Do some research and quit hyping up some obscure FBI unit you have no part in.
@@dsumner1234 Yes, training is provided, and as you pointed out they do volunteer themselves to certain portions of U.S. military special operation courses. They are nowhere near capable in real-time missions as the tier 2 let alone tier 1 units. Matter of fact, I can assure you, even the local SWAT teams have more experience than the HRT or any of the FBI SWAT field office teams.
@@em34ev3rthen they wouldnt be sent off to capture some guy in another country
Initially the domestic hostage rescue mission was given to the Delta Force. The military discovered if they executed a domestic hostage rescue every bullet has to be accounted for and all weapons impounded for evidence. They decided they needed to shift domestic mission to someone else. They did a demonstration to the DOJ. FBI asked why did the Delta Force don’t have handcuffs in their equipment. Delta deliberately replied double taps between the eyes doesn’t need handcuffs. The FBI director and high DOJ officials were horrified and decided FBI needed to form HRT to take over the domestic mission.
based Deltas
Thats the MOST Delta Force thing i ever heard
LOL then HRT ended up with snipers shooting unarmed women in the face, setting buildings on fire and shooting the people that tried to escape.
@@CenlaSelfDefenseConceptsthat is how it should be _ when the terrorists see the HRT being deployed they will know the HRT will kill everyone of them and not let anything get in their way. Waco and Ruby ridge taught countless generations of white power loonies to be fearful.
@@CenlaSelfDefenseConceptsI’m guessing Turner Diaries is a favorite book of yours….
I would imagine that due to the difficulties in going from an FBI Field Agent to passing the course to becomie HRT there are a lot of ‘ex’ special ops personnel who suddenly become FBI agents for 2-3 year periods before ‘strangely’ re-enlisting back into their previous SOCOM roles to keep the skill levels high.
Oh absolutely I imagine a lot of operators "retire" into the HRT either in training or working in the teams but I doubt they then re-enlist
HRT has a recruitment program to recruit former SOF personnel. They still have to complete the FBI Academy and work in a field office before applying to HRT though.
@@dsumner1234 this is contradictory, either they're recruited or they apply. Recruitment is saying "Hi ex SOF we'd like you", application is saying "I've been with you as a special agent for 10 years and I'm ex SOF can I be HRT"
@@pepperroni6252 The program is called the Tactical Recruiting Program (TRP). It's designed to recruit people with prior SOF or tactical team experience into the FBI. Once they complete the academy, and get some investigative time under their belts, they can then apply for the HRT. It's a way for them to get their numbers up by having more applicants.
@@pepperroni6252 Here's a link to the specific requirements for FBI Agent applicants, along with info on applying for TRP - fbijobs.gov/sites/default/files/2022-08/guide_howtoapply.pdf

I have been waiting for this video forever! Thank you, you are the best man
Cold Zero is a great book, but I highly recommend 'No Hero's' by Danny Coulson. He is the Agent tapped to put the Team together and has lots of insight into it's formation
Ah, thanks for this! I have a copy of Chris Whitcomb's book, but didn't know of Coulson's.
I really enjoy the content in your videos, if I were to level one criticism it’s that the sound balancing is a bit off. If your editor would consider turning the background music down 10-20% it would be a lot easier to clearly hear you. Just a suggestion, looking forward to more awesome videos.
Or maybe get rid of that robotic voice. All of these information are open source, there are no top secrets about it.
Awesome work man. I always look forward to your next video, and love learning about all these special units that I never even knew existed.
Is it possible that you would consider covering Fire Fighter and EMS departments throughout the country and in the military too? And also maybe go into elite Fire Fighter and EMS units in the country? Just an idea for more videos.
Appreciate your work and effort man and keep up the awesome content!
Thanks for the suggestion and for the kind words! We'll add it to our list.
You’re welcome! Thank you and keep on with the great content!

I'd love to see a video on the South African special task force unit.

There's a difference. Capabilities overlap, still different

If they are anything like the explosive safety/hazardous devices guys, "elite" may not be the best choice of words
There are many good FBI SABTs (Bomb Techs). However, having worked with them at both the federal and local levels for 35 years, most are not particularly skilled and are best described as elitist wankers.
@@Paleotech1 I guess I just got to work with the window lickers. ATF guys on the other hand, good at the craft

I was in LE and in L.A. during the 84’ Olympics, with special teams from LAPD, LA countySheriffs and all of the federal alphabet teams we had there, it was luck that nobody tried to test the utter manpower that was those Olympic responders!! HRT is good but their main black mark is “Ruby Ridge”, however that could’ve happened to any “team”!!👍🏽🇺🇸
The L.A. SWAT commander was so full of himself. He said his team could do missions the military was doing with its spec-ops. I wonder how that went?
@@gbody2617 Prior to the 84 olympics, LAPD SWAT sent guys to train with 22 SAS in anticipation of a possible attack. LAPD SWAT is very good, but they don't have the same capabilities as HRT.
@@dsumner1234 - I'm sure they're good but for domestic civilian purposes, not to go into a war and fight some terrorist.
The same goes for the HRT. They're the equivalent to Delta but in a civilian way dealing with criminals. They can't go to a war zone and perform like a Marine or Army infantry unit much less a spec-ops unit.

Can you go over the marine air ground task force, Mef, and the meu?
Hi General Discharge I have a question, If there was a scenario like the Munich olympic massacre or some other terrorist activity occurring on US soil would the US govt send the FBI HRT or some other US tier 1 spec ops team to handle the situation?
Probably have HRT leading but other than supposition, the powers that be would never publicly acknowledge the existence say ST-6, Delta or otherwise, at least until much later, also depending on the final outcome!!
HRT would be the primary responder, backed up by the various FBI Field Office SWAT Teams. If needed, US military units can be brought in.
No posse comitatus act forbids us military personnel from being in a law enforcement role on US soil
@@coreyferguson1341 There are specific exceptions that allow US military personel to be deployed. Things like riots, terrorist attacks, insurrections, and a few others.
@@coreyferguson1341 that’s old fcking news. DELTA would be used in these situations not HRT. Quit YouTubing this bullshit and get some fresh air kid. HRT is not the primary CT unit in the United Staes despite what CZcams videos and Wikipedia tells you

That was a-GREAT-show. LOVED it. LOL.
Yes general discharge, I wanna be here.
These guys are heavy hitters 🏴
You gotta to make a video where you have the federal law enforcement SWAT teams such as USSS CAT, FBI HRT, USMS SOG, USBP BORTAC all go against each other and see who would come out victorious
It’s literally just HRT and nobody else
@@Joe-zg9bx lol, you hype these guys up too much. None of the federal civilian agencies come close to DoD tier 1 units. JSOC more specifically.
Dick Wolf needs to go ahead and make an FBI spinoff show with just the HRT being the main focus.

Could you cover National Park Service Law Enforcement Rangers? (different from us park police). They also have two tactical teams: park Special Response Teams (SRT) and regional Special Event Tactical Teams (SETT).
That won’t be very interesting, what are they doing to do? Have a stand-off with a rabid raccoon?
@@I-dont-reply Not, but they did have a standoff with a heavily armed militia in the nevada desert in 2014.
@@melka193 No, they had a standoff with heavily armed Americans and they lost. They backed out and decided to tuck tail and run. As they should have. The gov't stepped on their dicks in that whole situation and it came to light in news broadcasts across the nation. Much like how the Mexican government lost a war with an armed and trained cartel, federal agents from multiple branches of the gov't gave in and backed out in an armed standoff with equally armed Americans! This is as it should be. "We the people" should always have the ultimate power in this country. Now, we need to do the same thing in Washington, DC and force our corrupt government to stand down so they can be replaced with a Constitutionally aware and Constitutionally legal government, rather than the assholes we have now.
@@melka193 Would be interesting to compare BLM and NPS Rangers too, since I *think* BLM were primary yet have significantly less rangers.

Very good video
They are super elite, like when an HRT sniper shot an unarmed woman in the head while holding her baby. Ruby Ridge really showed HRT skills or lack thereof.
FBI HRT is equivalent to other Police Tactical Unit form other countries. Like the Germany's GSG-9, France's RAID and GIGN, Israel's Yamam, Ukraine's KORD, China's SWCU, Canada's ERT, Australia's SPS, Japan's SAT, Belgian DSU, Hong Kong SDU, Singapore's STAR, and Philippine's SAF
Yes but alot of those listed could be considered special ops units. GIGN do counter terrorist ops and are higher than a SWAT team

Do Homeland Security, CIA, or ATF also have 'top tier' units as well, or just the FBI?
CIA does, check out their Special Activities Division. Homeland Security has the Special Operations Division that falls under Secret Service. Not sure about ATF but I assume they'd have some skilled shooters, just not on the level of CIA or FBI.
All federal units usually have a top tier unit in the event of an emergency. To emphasize: The IRS has a special forces unit
CIA has GRS and SRS
@@roadkill44mu PMOO as well (paramilitary operations officers)
DHS can pul from a lot of agencies but normally goes with BORTAC which is part of CBP.
Cold Zero, a good read. Dusted it off
Yeah. Let's talk about Ruby Ridge and their deciding to sneak into fenced off land that was posted "No Tresspassing" without a warrant and not being camouflaged well enough to remain hidden from a twelve year old boy walking on his property doing morning chores, who saw them, and not knowing they were police, opened fire on them with the rifle he carried as protection from mountain lions, wolves and Grizzly bears. Yeah, the FBI, BREAKING THE LAW, KILLED A MINOR CHILD BECAUSE THEY WOULDN'T JUST YELL OUT THAT THEY WERE LEO!
Then, after they created an unnecessary standoff with a former Green Baret, one of their elite snipers shot and killed the man's infant child and his wife. I guess it was a great hit. One shot, two kills...so much for target discrimination, right?
None of the agents were tried for the unjust and illegal killings. Hell, they weren't even sighted for tresspassing.
Though the man, after losing most of his immediate family, was vindicated in court as the FBI had entrapt him and he was paid out tens of millions of dollars for the life destroying carnage they brought down upon their fellow citizens. Great job.
Corruption everywhere
That's what I say. Fuck the fbi.

@@DogeickBateman no... I didn't learn to fight online. Like you punks.
My understanding is that the Seal Team 6 and Delta Force are the two best Tier 1s in the US. Do you agree? BTW, your channel is the best.
Not best, just most well known. The 24th Special Tactics Squadron is another good one. They wouldn't be Tier 1 if they weren't the best. The Army, Navy and Air Force all have Tier 1 units. More is known about the two that you mentioned than the other units. As I mentioned, just because they're more well known, that doesn't mean they're the best. Each operative from each unit will laugh and brag about how good they are, but you likely won't hear them say they're the absolute best. No one with any knowledge or experience will say they're "the best" because they know and appreciate the role each of the other units play in the Special Operations world.
Prior Combat Engineers and EOD would be there worst nightmare 😂
Can you do a video about CBP👀
Sir one video of Defence Intelligence Agency vs ISA
Special forces active duty vs special forces national guard
In my opinion, these guys are seal team 6, law enforcement version.
These are the guys you play as in Ready or Not?
I'm skeptical that a U.S. military trained SOF operator would be weeded out of FBI HRT selection. I need proof of that.
Some departments won't hire spec ops because they have the muscle memory to be overly aggressive in situations that require descalation.
If you learn about the selection the only difference between each selectee is the number on their shirt. The “graders” or selectors have no knowledge on anyone who try’s out for the selection. This means that no one knows or cares weather you have been on an elite team or you have never been on a tactical unit in your life. It’s all about how you preform then and there. Some guys just don’t have the heart for it either and that’s where you see guys who have never been on an assault team chosen over ex elite ops.
