Crazy this was taken 9 years ago and the station was a lot cleaner and clear. Now based on recent videos of this station, there’s soo much trash everywhere, the platform has been boarded up and turned into work spaces , track or equipment laying around , papers on the ground scattered etc.
I remember when that lower level was still in use. The northern end served as an underpass between the main s/b and n/b platforms before the entire mezzanine was incorporated into the paid fare zone.
I used to 14:49 "play" down there when I skipped h.s. school in the late 70's. That door from the platform is how I got down there. The escalators were there and the sealed up staircase at the far end. Ahhhh this were the days.
I have the key to go there safely. I work for the MTA. What individuals do to nowadays for video likes, views and comments. Risking a criminal resspss charge among other charges. Saftey is always first.
I remember a time when the E train went down there. I also remember it was use to connect the downtown platform with the uptown platform before the mezzanine was redone.
The #7 line terminal never extended this far. It was extend more recently for the new 34th Street terminal. Had these remain separate companies, the #7 would've never been able to extend it line, because there station terminal was too close to underpin the IND lower level, which would involve descending deeper than the train was capable of accomplishing. Otherwise, there was absolutely no reason for that lower level to be built as there was nothing in the area (Port Authority didn't exist then) that justified it as a terminal.
I noticed this guy always mentioning the "A" and "C" line. By that statement, i can tell that is his home line. But the main line is actually the "E" at least for frequency.
Amazing they wasted that type of money for basically nothing. Seems like a waste of taxpayers money to me. As busy New York is, you would think that they would have used the money wisely to remodel the tracks and keep those trains going.

Thank you for letting us explore with you I always wanted to the old lower level 42nd street platform
They built a lot of extra features in the IND lines for future expansion that wound up never being done.
Thank you for the beautiful work that you’re doing on your channel

Have you considered checking out the Bowling Green/South Ferry Shuttle abandoned platforms?
Very interesting thanks for the video!
I recall that platform for the “Train to the plain”. Express service to JFK.
🎼"take the train to the plane, take the train to the plane"....yep brings back memories.

The 42nd Street Abaonded Station Some Parts Of It Were Demolished For The 7 Line Expansion
i wouldn’t risk going there is to hard plus is a long walk in the tunnel to get there that is to much work
The aqueduct train I remember that
They built the lower level to block the #7 from extending to the west side.
Does anyone remember what trains ran down there?
Careful now, they installed motion sensors down there
where
@@j.blendzzz they hid it

All that time and money to extend the 7 to one additional stop!
