Entebbe Raid : The Israeli Raid that humiliated Idi Amin of Uganda

  • In 1976, an airplane hijacking unfolded that would change history. Air France Flight 139, en route from Tel Aviv, Israel to Paris, France fell into the hands of terrorists. Led by members of the German Baader-Meinhof group and Palestinians from the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), the plane was diverted to Entebbe, Uganda. There, Idi Amin, fueled by frustration over his country’s deteriorating relations with Israel, welcomed the hijackers with seemingly open arms.
This set the stage for a daring Israeli rescue mission, an operation that would not only free hostages but also deliver a blow to Amin's regime.

Another great documentary by the best online source for African news there is. Amazing film as always ! I have to say that the interviewer who asked Amin about his Hitler quote is a much braver man than me. Here he is, asking Amin a question which might displease him while they’re sitting on a canoe in crocodile-infested waters. And that famous laugh of Amins is anything but comforting.

Amin loved Scotland and I don't know why? Any answers? He was a tyrant of the very worst kind. I remember this playing out on the TV. The British subject was very brave indeed and was such a help to all authorities. the film Raid on Entebbe is a very good watch. During these time hi-jacking was a very real threat and once the USA and The UK confirmed there would be no negotiations with terrorists the practice fizzled out. Obviously, greater aircraft security played it's part.

Tanzania would later embarrass the hell of Idi so bad he would have to flee Uganda and with battles like Lukaya where Tanzania would suffer 8 casualties to the roughly 400 casualties suffered by the forces of Idi's and his allies which were the PLO and Libya it is not surprising that Idi had to run like hell in disgrace.
Then again his army only ever brutalized their own helpless populace and not against someone that can shoot back so the one sided victory for Tanzania should not be surprising :3

Um, what does this story have to do with the current Israeli government or Netanyahu? Also, are you seriously saying we should not praise Israel for saving theor people from the butcher of Uganda? You see how crazy that looks?

It was an absolutely incredible and skilled commando raid. Period. It ranks up there with the execution of Osama bin Laden and the Israeli capture of Adolf Eichmann as well as Israel’s destruction of Saddam Husseins nuclear reactor in 1983. It should be applauded and admired strictly on that basis. What the Israeli government is now doing to the Palestinians is completely irrelevant.
All my Ugandan friends who were alive during the Amin years remember Issac Malayamungu so I definitely sat up and took notice when he was mentioned in this video. His conduct after Entebbe sounds just like the man they’ve described. Do you - or anyone - know what ultimately happened to him ? One friend said he had heard Malyamungu was killed during the Tanzanian invasion but it was never more than a rumor. Even online I can’t track him down. Do you have any idea if he’s still alive ?

No nonsense? 🤣 he was a Society puppet who butchered his own people and nearly destroyed Uganda. If you think he was such a great person, why not move to Eritrea where another ruler like him is in charge?
