  • Throughout Japanese history, there existed Japanese swords, called Ootachi, which were notably longer than the height of an average human. Some of these swords still exist and are enshrined in Japanese shrines. In fact, the Ootachi was actually used in battles during the Sengoku period. In this video, we will explore the history of the Ootachi, a weapon that dominated certain eras of the battlefield.

years ago, i was fortunate enough to get hands on with an Ootachi. Kept in a private collection, by an Indian businessman in the UK (who also trained Japanese sword arts). The blade itself was about 9/10ft. But was actually 'wieldable', as it had surprising good balance (with the fittings on). Heavy, but light considering the size. There were some indications on the handle/fittings as to how it had been primarily used (on horse back). By lodging the sword between the rider and the saddle. Then, with the blade sticking out the side, the rider would gallop pasts troops. Anyone/thing caught in the blades space, paid a price.

I now really want a replica of the Haja-No Ootachi Sword now. It's not just a sword, it's a masterpiece of Swordsmanship and forgery of fire... some say these Swords were gifted to these warrior by the ancient gods themselves, and gifting them ultimate strength along with knowledge of how to properly use them with expertise.

All kind of super long weapons used on horse riding usually.
But today all of people misunderstand using on ground
Such as 8 Diagram staff form came from Chinese Kung Fu that was modified version of Yeung's family Spear.
That can practice on ground and on horse riding with using.
People need to think the reason of design of weapons with technique.
    Never play a traditional stubborn

@@HistoryofKatanayeah, it's too awkward for a normal human sized individual. plus, on the battlefield, use of spears and archers would quickly kill normal-sized individuals using these. so that might be the offshoot theory where these were made for larger sized people.

Just a quick information. It seems that some units of measurement, not known to the civilised world, was used in this video. That makes a lot of the information provided utterly meaningless, except of course for those unlucky enough to understand it’s meaning. As approximately 98% of the world’s population does have some connection to civilisation, I recommend that you use those units instead.
