This was actually the 1st time Goku met android 18. He was in a coma through most of the android saga and in the hyperbolic time chamber when cell was hunting the androids. He might have seen her when Cell threw her up but they never formally met.

Funny how they were made to kill Goku and they didn't even meet him till way later😂even in trunks timeline, Goku dies before they show up.
@@orbboom6119 You know the real irony is the futility of killing Goku because they could just bring him back to life. I mean he should have it on record Goku died and then came back to life and that Krillin died twice and came back to life. He also somehow knew about Frieza and got his genetic material to make Cell but he didn't do the same for Trunks or learn about super saiyans.
"Let the man have his moment." See Gohan remembers that if weren't for Mr. Satan, he wouldn't have spoken to 16, and Cell would've destroyed the world.
So the witch is Fortune Teller Baba, she is Roshi's sister, and has the power to foresee the future what she is riding is actually the crystal ball she uses for fortune telling. Her predictions are more or less completely accurate save a few rare occasions, while Roshi is obsessed with women Baba is obessed with money and charges a ridiculous amount of money for even one fortune telling. She also can go to Otherworld, the afterlife, whenever she pleases.
She mostly appeared in OG Dragon Ball, before Majin Buu's saga (and a little bit in the Saiyan's saga actually)...

Krillin saying 18 is a rebuilt human being is actually accurate since in japanese the androids are called "Artificial Humans". But 18 and 17 are not actually androids, but cyborgs, they're not completely robot, just certain parts of their bodies
Yep. 17, 18, 20 (aka Dr Gero) and Cell are the only known called "androids" which aren't technically such: 17 and 18 are cyborgs, based on infinite energy, like 16 (and 13, 14, 15, almost all the others), 20 is a cyborg based on absorbing energy, like 19...and Cell is biomechnical, based like no other artificial "human" before him, which makes him so unique, obviously.
EDIT : However, in the manga, it is known that Dr Gero already used to design cyborgs before starting to do androids...and only then, when he achieved the sufficient technology for this, he switched from cyborgs to androids, overall. Despite all of this, he reverted back on his working methods especially for 17 and 18, which can be theorized in many ways, actually...and then, when he realized they wouldn't obey him as his previous cyborgs would, he went back again into androids like 19, and finally used him to help turning himself into a cyborg of his own kind.
His project on Cell, on the other hand, must have begun long ago, in the same time he designed 17 and 18 after kidnapping them as mere teenagers, I would say...

@@798jeremy Well Cell gets kind of murky. The basic definition of an android is a humanoid robot, and a robot is a machine capable of acting autonomously. Nothing says you have to use metal and wire to make a robot. I guess a good example of this is the bioorganic computers in Star Trek Voyager. So if you make a bunch of organic parts in a lab, then program them to do stuff, that's by definition a robot. But on the other hand, that opens up a lot of questions about cloning and what not.
Random perhaps but I like how Oolong is given one of the close-up shot spots with hil tearing up at Goku's return, and him being one of the folks who run up to hug Goku-
Oolong has been outta focus cause he's no fighter, but he *is* one of Goku's first ever friends (going back further than Krillin!) so its nice to see that still be acknowledged

I love how the 2 off them get more and more impatient. Really shows how much better the pacing is in DBZA. Now they feel the full force off Dragonballs infamous tomfillery.
True haha, and this is Kai so we are getting even less of it. And when we say filler we don’t mean typical anime filler but more so just padding the plot to stretch things out a bit 🤗
Funny that Beth said that these last two episodes felt like filler because in Kai they actually cut out all the filler. In Z, you would've had to wait much longer to get to this point in the story. I'd say these are more build-up episodes than filler.

Oh god I just realized what's coming...

Whenever they're flying through the air and the white or gold Aura surrounds them, that's them using their Aura to spearhead through the air so they can both resist the air pressure as well as fly faster.
Their Aura also helps to deflect low-power attacks as well as protect their skin and body. They have to actively use it otherwise they could get hurt by something as simple as a bullet.

I think you are greatly underestimating Mr. Satan. Sure, he is no match for the Z fighters, but he did win the previous world martial arts tournament fair and square, meaning he is actually stronger than everyone else, and your only real context of his abilities is the backhand from Cell. Sure, he gets played up as comic relief, but he is NOT a weakling.

There's a section coming up that actually was intended to have references to TFS's DBZ Abridged - it unfortunately didn't make it to the show proper, but you *CAN* find it as a deleted scene on CZcams.
From what I've heard, and I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm misinformed, Funimation was going to have the TFS crew do some voice acting, and even got as far as recording the parts, but Toei, the license holder of DragonBall in general, was not a fan of even semi 'canonizing' what TFS did with the abridged series in the actual series itself.
That said, I'd love to see you guys check out the TFS version of the Puppet Show. That will make more sense once you've watched it!
Seeing you guys watch it really made me want to watch Kai again. And sure enough I saw it on Hulu! I’ve been wanting it on a streaming site for years. Only downside, the English version of Kai has the lame english intro and ending Toei in Japan made for the show to send to other countries. Meanwhile they have a better intro and multiple ending songs.
It’s kind of perfect timing it’s on Hulu now shortly after we started watching it. Makes our watch along reactions on Patreon easier for people and/or people can watch ahead on Hulu if they haven’t seen Kai in awhile and want to see what’s in store for us and when 🥳🥳
Android 18 is more like a Cyborg, a human with cybernetic upgrades. Her and 17 were mistakenly called Androids in the English dub, in Japanese they are called, Artificial Humans. 17 and 18 were human twins that were kidnapped by Dr. Gero and modified. Their original names were, Lapiz and Lazuli. The only android in the Cell Saga was Android 19, the doll like white android and the tall red mohawk , 16. So it's definitely possible for 18 to give birth.

It always bugged me that Videl saw Goten use the same power she learned to use to fly could be used to fire energy blasts, and she never asked to learn that. Especially since step one was to summon an energy ball which proved she had the potential for the blast. Instead, she was like "I can fly, whelp I got what I wanted... back to normal training." Seriously, if presented with the ability to shoot lasers from your hands, wouldn't you be a little curious about what else might be possible?
Perhaps she is just so focused on her martial arts that she doesn't really care about tossing ki around. Just a guess.
Although when most people are asked what super power they want it’s usually the ability to fly 🤗

I wouldn't say Satan hasn't been training. He *IS* the World Champion after all! He's still training, but it isnt with the same intensity as he once did, because as champ he doesnt have to fight through the bracket like everyone else.
And for years since the Z Fighters didnt join, he was technically the strongest fighter there.
They didn’t show him training though which is why we said it. While Videl was out there fighting bad guys, they showed Mr Satan curled up in ball with a blanket over his head scared. And these were just normal thugs not crazy aliens or something 🤗

Kai definitely cuts down on the filler as Videl's training was alot longer as Gohan and to first teach her about controlling ki/energy before they could start on the flight training, this took her a few tries to master it and led to a cute moment of her blushing when Gohan suggests she cuts her hair, she asks him was it because he liked short hair on a girl and Gohan panics a bit quickly stating he only suggested it as longer hair would give her foes a chance to grab it etc.

@wowf0rl1f3 have you interacted with humans before? Intro spoilers usually don't make sense to people until they understand the context. You explained explicitly in plain words, how long Goku will be around, a character they've been dying to see.

I think they're confusing filler with setup episodes. DB Abriged really spoiled them. Filler is non-canon/ non-source material while setup is just padding for the episode's run time. And yes there can be filler inside a canon episode but that doesn't make the episode filler itself.
Yeah, I think the language gets confused. People even call world-building lore canon episodes "filler" sometimes. Or they call the padding in canon episodes "filler" too.
This by definition isn't filler. It was all in the Manga.

Man, I didn’t even watch this season of DBZ all that much originally, but it still had some lines in these scenes that really stuck with me enough to remember how they go. It’s really jarring to see the same scenes in Kia and hear different lines.
And god damn, that voice actress for 18 sounds completely different from Z, GT and Super. Never heard her in this series before.

Really enjoying your reactions to Kai, I will say though, there are a few more episodes like this in the series, where it feels like it's dragging for a bit, but they're all set up and relevant episodes thankfully. Also, I know it's a long way off but I really hope you guys react to the DBZ Battle of Gods and Resurrection F and then eventually Super when you get around to them!

One of the worst things about anime like DBZ is that it takes forever to get anywhere. There's an "in joke" in DBZA about them being on Namek for so long. They were on that planet for about 72 episodes in the original run of the anime. They were there so long the studio broke it up into 3 separate "sagas". 32 episodes for the "Namek Saga", 7 for the "Ginyu Saga", and 33 for the "Frieza Saga". I saw those episodes in my early teens and I was so tired of seeing Namek by the time the Ginyu force arrived. If the pace hadn't picked up with those guys the way it did, it would have been much more of a slog to get through that part.
Even though DBZ Kai removes a ton of filler, there's still a lot of superfluous stuff in this version of the anime. Still so much better than the original run, though.

The reason why they did a long shot of the tournament location was because this is their first time entering the newer look, the old one was pretty small.
It was already remodeled while Goku and the others were training for 3 years for the Androids coming to attack which they've missed out.
Piccolo's smirk is nothing, he's just happy to see Goku but he doesn't react the same way everyone else does.
Vegeta's not happy to see Goku, Kid Trunks never really knew him, #18 was once supposed to kill Goku.
3:20 Gohan is actually referring to Goku when he says 'Old friend'. Piccolo is his Dad. Hope this clears things up.

Yep, was about to comment the same thing. Absolutely butchers the scene of goku coming back with that dogshit looping arcade music. The original dub with the "New Earth" soundtrack by Bruce Faulconer was so iconic and emotional. This kai music is so bad.

The one thing that bugs me about DBZ Kai is the soundtrack. The OG soundtrack really hit you with the emotion when goku returns

My favorite characters is, Gohan and also, mr. Satan or if you will Hercule, he's my favorite because, later on, he becomes friends with Majin Buu, also known as, fat Kirby, as you all like to call him. One last thing, I feel, at some point, at some time, you guys have to watch The original dragon Ball or watch dragon Ball GT, because it's the, predated dragon Ball super, the cannon/ not Cannon next chapter of dragon Ball z. Some people hate it, some people love it, like I do, there's almost no gray area, when it comes to dragon Ball GT. When it comes to dragon Ball super, that is the 100%, Cannon version of The next step of dragon Ball Z, but however, it's a reboot / continuation, that means, some continuity of dragon Ball Z, is somewhat reckoned.
Just a heads up, a lot of these titles are REALLY spoiler-y! If you can, I'd strongly suggest straight up, not reading the titles. Hit mute when the narrator says it, or something.
