Oh it definitely happens. I missed out on over $300 face value of silver recently. I offered to buy "coins that look weird" from an acquaintances relative. Before I could, the person took it to a local grocery store that had a coinstar. When the coinstar wouldn't accept it..she went to complain to a store employee who after she showed him what coins she was trying to run through the machine (a huge bag I'm told) he told her if she was just trying to change it into bills he would be happy to help her himself. Was very happy to, in fact he took her to a office... it's quiet there and we won't be disturbed he told her. I didn't have the heart to tell them it was worth over $4k..whats the point now. I did let them know it was silver and if you find more don't do that again . Wait for me. All she would say was it was a few hundred dollars so no big deal. Writing something... heck, anything on the container might have helped here.
I think it was a helpful video. I have all my collections labeled. Not everyone does that.

Man that's tough... and thank you for sharing this. I feel like this happens way more than people realize or even goes untold and the evidence is were still finding them in coinstars and in bank boxes. Good on you for reaching out to them and attempt to help or give a heads-up at least before they do that again. Ya a simple label can make all the difference when passing things down.

You wont have this issue with any other constitutional just these these 2 coins. idk if I pulled 10 random people aside on the street I think less than half would know theres any difference between older rosies and newer rosies. IMO only stackers/collectors would know to look at the year or look on the side of the coin, not the average person knows these things. Thank You Sestacker! hey its ok to disagree no problem at all

@@pajamastacking Know the difference between rosies? I was a cashier before, I had to stop giving out dollar coins to people, because I knew that more often than not it would lead to an actual fight with the person screaming at me that there's no such thing as a dollar coin. Especially if it's an Eisenhower or a Susan B Anthony, don't even try it, a JFK half dollar too. I just started switching them out with dollar bills I would bring myself, we would get a decent bit of them back during the coin/cash shortage during the lockdowns. Unfortunately and painful to hear, such stories all the time. On one of visits to my LCS, just sitting and listening to conversations of deceased recipients of inherited coins often there is a mixed bag of non-silver coins. One family member that thought the inheritance of coins were valuable, just broke down in store crying uncontrollably.

You make great points. All the push back is ridiculous. Obviously seasoned stackers know the difference. You aren't talking about them being confused. Solid video Jammies. Any silver that does not say its silver can easily be over looked by people less knowledgeable. Labeling is a great idea. My wife knows who to take our stuff to and I have taught her what is what but adding more labels for the deep stack would be a good idea. 👍

Apart from the Penny & Nickel, Dimes & Quarters are both 91.67% Copper and 8.33% Nickel. Nickels are 25% Nickel and 75% Copper. There is design overlap, but the color is noticeably different, they haven't made the older quarters since 1998, and I buy other Constitutional Silver than just Quarters & Dimes. I buy Silver dollars, halves, and Mercury dimes as well. I don't see it has any sort of downfall, just something that will be ameliorated by the steep learning curve that will come in more difficult times. When times become truly difficult, where lives are on the line and there are few if any intact safety nets like government assistance, first responders, etc... the learning curve for living life successfully will be incredibly steep and what counts as real money, how to distinguish it, etc... will become a well known thing more quickly than we can imagine today. However, it will be uneven at first because a lot of it will depend upon supply. If there are no other stackers or collectors in your area, the very limited supply might matter. That's why I try to give away a significant amount of Silver every year. I give away between 20 to 30 ounces each year at Christmas, as well as some small amounts of Gold. That takes a significant amount of budgeting, but it can be done. Anyway, interesting video. Keep stacking!

Silver is silver, just mark it 90% or 40%. I don’t need any more junk, I’m getting too old to worry about trading at the farmer’s market lol. I don’t like rounds, either, good luck convincing people what’s in them. If you’re worried about junk silver, I would be more worried about all those rounds. I just have eagles, maple leafs, britannias, libertads, etc, and 90% junk. I might get some of those APMEX 10oz bars but all that stuff looks too easy to counterfeit.

The question is... WHY are you buying constitutional? If you seriously buy 90%, you have a way to store it and label it for what it is. My wife and son know what it is and what years were silver. They know to google current silver price to see about how much it is worth. If you just throw it in a jar, then yes, you run the risk of it getting sent to a coin star. That's on you. Will a person who doesn't know what 90% know what a Merc dime, SLQ or Benji is? Probably not.

He’s absolutely right. Constitutional silver is real silver, but the average citizen will always only see a nickel, dime, or quarter.. it’s not fair, but it’s a fact. Get rid of it and stack RECOGNIZABLE silver bullion. It stands apart, and will shine when you need it to. You have to play the odds right. Keep them in your favor. Stacking constitutional silver is a fat gamble. It’s face value is ingrained in the publics mind. Thats who you might be bartering with.

Thank You David! I thought this was a fairly common take, lol I guess not by gaging the comments. Feels like some people just read the title and think im bashing constitutional silver as a whole. If you actually watch, I don't at all, quite the opposite really its my favorite form of silver to stack/collect. People just need to realize that not everyone is knowledgeable on coins, I guarantee 99% of the kids or young adults today have no idea what constitutional silver is and will fall victim to this, after all they will be the ones to inherit these coins right... Cheers my friend thank you for this comment!

@@pajamastackingnope sorry hard disagree. Saying junk blends in is like saying a man throws on a dress and we can't tell it's not a woman now. First off junk silver will be the first that is gone. It's the best fractional of all the metals to stack. Super cheap super recognizable. The ones that don't know what it is will have to learn fast. Ignorance doesn't mean I have to use my 63 dime as a regular dime In a barter situation. And if you're worried of passing on your silver to idiots then you raised the people wrong you are leaving it to

They haven't minted constitutional silver (en masse) for 70 years. 70. Attrition is only going to make them less and less feasible for barter. Goldbacks continue to be minted in larger number with each successive year.
