Bullion Dealer Compare Silver Coins...Should you Buy NICE or NASTY SILVER??

- In this video my gold and silver bullion dealer discusses nice and nasty silver. I ask Tim Marschner of the Coin and Stamp Shop if it makes sense to buy high-premium silver coins--brilliant uncirculated or proof silver--or to buy low-premium circulated silver coins. We compare the Australian Wedge-Tailed Eagle silver coin from the Perth Mint with an ugly, cull, scratched up American Silver Eagle. We also look at other silver coins, silver rounds, and silver bars for sale at this local coin shop. Which silver did I buy? Which silver would YOU buy?! Regardless of which silver you like to stack, this could be the silver bullion buying opportunity you shouldn't miss. With the US dollar in decline, the spot prices of precious metals may rise quickly and without warning. You need to take advantage of relatively low silver prices and continue stacking silver as wealth preservation. Economic collapse is coming!

#Silver #NastySilver #SilverEagle
I love that you addressed distressed coins. I have 77 silver eagles that were submerged in floodwater (i.e., raw sewage) for approx. 4 days, when I dried them out. When I finally get to them, I am going to try putting them in clean water and ultrasound them. I that doesn't work so well, I'll try adding a bit of baking soda. It sucks being flooded out of two houses and fired from your job for false reasons. I'm glad like hell that I stacked when I had the money, because there won't be any more stacking here. I think that I am good on the metals (gold, silver, copper, and lead), and have good security. Your videos are great, and economically and politically, we would have a good time getting some beers together. You are the man!
I wouldn’t do anything but rinse in clean water a few times. Maybe add A LITTLE bleach to sanitize them. Ultrasound and baking soda might make them look pretty, but I think it’s effort with little/no reward when the stuff hits the fan.
Fired for false reasons?? Wtf does that have to do with anything here?
Suck it up buttercup
Chief engraver for the US mint John m mercanti designed a lot of the wedge tail eagles, excellent craftsmanship !
Meh, it's all destined for the fire!
Milk spot in itself is a security feature. My wife stacks the real pretty stuff, I buy the beat up tarnish stuff.
Yep. That's one of the great things about stacking: there's something for everyone. 😀
Toned silver eagles look really nice to me, gives it an antique look.
I was just gifted a 1878 Morgan , was happy to get it , still in real good shape.
That is awesome, Karen. I have around 125 Morgans in my collection and all are terrific coins. If only they could tell us their stories!
1878 was a very good year for Morgans. Was that the 1st year of the Morgan? It might have been. I have an 1879 Morgan with most
of the rest being 1880s-1890s. Also have a few 1921 Morgan restrikes. These are not my favorites but there were in such good shape
that I could not refuse to buy them.
Morgans 💕💕💕 they make my heart skip a beat
@edb yes that was the first year they were made . Looked it up . I have quite a few my self . Buying some this week from a coin shop .. I like the older silver .
Yankee, ask Tim if all hell broke loose and Silver hit $100 an oz, would he still have the same spread?
I truly believe that when SHTF, an ounce is gonna be an ounce (not including special dates or coins) I think whether it's nasty or pristine the guy on the other end will say: Yo, it's an ounce and an ounce is $$ and that's it. GENTLEMEN, HAVE A MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yep, I buy generic silver rounds as for the money, you can stack a LOT more silver. Silver doesn't know what shape or design it's in afterall, and when you sell (or barter) that silver should the worst happen in the future, most won't care IMO.
Agreed @@ct87gn25
I'm definitely in the 'cull' camp. That American Silver Eagle was wonderful, I have a near full date run of Eagles and all mine look like that one. Ounces are more important to me and I do not care too much about the condition (unless the coin is in a real bad way). I would love to get into Tim's shop.
Over the last month I have purchased around a kilo of scratched and dented coins. Personally I love them, as I never get to see what they are until they arrive from the Australian, Eastern States. A lucky dip if ya will. Lets be honest here, if Silver ever moon shots because of in scarcity, no one is going to care that they are banged up.
Yankee hope you and Tim have a very Merry Christmas 🎄. Stay Blessed
Hey Tim and Yankee. I love the videos and the great knowledge that you share.
As a person who lives in a neighboring town, I feel like I could spend my net worth with Tim. love PM's, especially silver. Don't know why, just think an uncirculated silver eagle is absolutely beautiful. Actually met the Yank, but never made it on CZcams. Think a bunch of us were chirping too much.
Nice change of pace 👌 coin talk. Dig it!
Good information as I’ve come to expect, Thanks Yankee and Tim 🙏🕊️
I have an Australian wedge tail eagle too. It’s a beautiful coin and they sell at a premium here in AUS too.
I like the used silver look. I am not a collector unless there is something really nice or it has a Phoenix on it.
I have numerous tubes of milk spotted Maple Leaf coins. I really dislike milk spots so I stopped buying them for a long time. I think that generally when it comes to bars being pretty is less important. Thanks, Yankee!
Until the RCM debuted their Mint Shield feature in 2018, their products were notorious for milk spotting. Now the Royal Mint in the UK has taken the top "spot" in that regard. Their products are milk spotting on the production line. 🙄
Good job guys ! Another fun 15-20 minutes. I love the Australian coins. So well done. I have some koalas and kooks.. going to look for the wedgetail eagles now. I love beauty in a coin, and buy kniwing that should i ever need to sell i probably wont get true value back but...who knows years down the road. Stay safe folks.
I hope you and Tim and everyone is ok. Saw pretty bad flooding. My prayers are with you and your families.
Thanks for sharing
Thanks for the video Yankee and Tim, always enjoy watching you guys and I do this every day....lol. Merry Christmas......God Bless
You guys are so lucky the Perth mint eagle is really hard to get ahold of in Australia.. they sent that mostly overseas and not many Aussies have that one
my guess is its just more profitable for the mint to send it overseas than it is to keep it in the nation which is sad, the coin you produce should be the most common.
from memory i think that those eagles are produced by the Perth mint each year on consignment for a wholesale client in the US and only in limited quantities
that why only about 10% are sold in Australian and 90% are exported to the US
@@mistercut8331 yes that’s what i heard form bullion now’s channel too.
I heard the design was commissioned from the USA so the lions share went to the USA
@@David_Quinn_Photography that doesn’t happen with Perth mint pieces, it’s also cheaper for me to buy a 1oz maple than a 1oz kangaroo
$3111.00 aud vs $3114.00 aud
Some Aussies buy from overseas and reimport if they really want it
@@mistercut8331 You're right. The Wedge Tail Eagle series is a really beautiful John Mercanti design for a US bullion dealer. I think they're limited to about 50K per year and there's only about 5000 for Aussies and they all disappear in a day or two, despite being limited to about 10 per person. Perth also makes collectible versions with different sizes- gold, proof, bimetallic, gilt and incuse - but they are REALLY expensive and super rare.
I picked up some constitutional silver last week. It was all rainbow toned which I enjoy seeing. I'm hoping to get enough silver to fill up my National bank bag. The Coin dealer also had a Toned Peace Dollar for sale that I'm hoping to get for my collection.
Good to see both of you.
Mercury dimes got me into stacking. I adore them and the pre 64 quarters. Call me a heretic but I clean all my constitutional silver. I LOVE clean shiny clinky silver 💗 looking aged and skagged out isn’t my thing. I love the childlike marvel and beauty of them in their brilliant state 😁 and oh MORGANS💗 they make my heart skip a beat 😊
Wedge tailed Eagles are definently on my bucketlist. If I remember it right the designer of the coin used to design for the us mint? Anyway, thanks for your videos!
Yup, John Mercanti.
@@Evom777 Even the name rung a bell. Great designer for sure.
I WAS HOPING FOR A VIDEO FROM YOUR TRIP TO TOLEDO. ALWAYS GOOD TO SEE TIM ALSO. I'VE BEEN BUYING CULL MORGAN'S
I never buy culls myself so don't know what kind of a discount one gets when buying them. I did buy 85 hand-picked Morgans from a friend
back in 2021. All of them were AU- or better and he charged me the same price that the online vendors were charging for culls at the time.
Merry Christmas!
thanks Yankee, got love ole Tim . . .
I like toned silver to me it just looks like it’s supposed to
That is one heckuva staircase...VERY cool!!
That Wedge Tail is a beautiful coin ! I have a few on the way now. Cant wait to see them in person !
I think I really some of those aswell.
The Perth mint does such amazing work@@DiggNitty
John Mercanti designs the Perth Mint Wedge-Tailed Eagles. Only 50k of the 1oz silver bullion coins are minted each year. The 2024 one is due March/April. Not sure how many more they’ll make, as Mr Mercanti is over 80 years now. He used to design the US eagles.
@@richardl3919 I’m going to keep my eyes open for them.
@@mysilverjourney For sure. I just got my Kookaburra collection complete (only 2009 missing). Their products are one of a kind.
Love this partnership.
Really love these videos, more focus on product 👍👍
5:14 I personally love the Silver Eagles with tonning and general ware.
Australia comes out with some really beautiful coins. I will be on the lookout for one of those Wedge Tail Eagles.
Thank u for continuously validating our deep love and admiration for silver 🤤
I've bought many, and as many as I can, of the 'nasty silver' from my silver dealer at or sometimes below spot because most people like new and shiny. To me, 1oz of silver is 1oz of silver.
I have a case set of Marshall Islands.. coin cased in a wooden box display. Extremely unbelievable coins. Theyre designed around the Apollo, lunar missions, etc.
Hi Yankee glad you asked Tim about culled ASE I have alot of random year ASE
I usually go through phases... I was buying Libertads for a while then I started buying Eagles for a while then I started buying Pandas for a while now I'm on a Kookaburra kick...
They're stunning. I think the 2016 & 2022 are my favorite for Kookaburra's.
As far as milk spots on rounds or sovereigns go, in its defense, you know it is not counterfeit right away. Secondly, it may be worthy to stack if the price is right for you. It's another way to diversify your stack
There are multiple videos here on YT about how to remove milk spots from silver coins, so it might not be a permanent condition.
Tim always great too hear you ⭐👍
Stacking it all lol.
Thanks
I bought recently a 2023 Scottish unicorn. Really stunning
Great video, Yankee. As a stacker-collector, my quest begins with low-premium, nasty silver until I spot something that tingles my collector instincts. So just as you did in your video, I would probably buy both because it's !
No matter what the coins look like, they should at least get spot prices!!! When did rounds and mint coins start being priced on appearance!?! Thats a new one on me, and I've been doing this for 17 years!!!
I think there is no point in buying high premium silver, not because some dealers only pay spot for it, but even if you do find a buyer, how much more are you going to charge him for the premiums? Probably the same, so chances are you don't make all your money back, let alone more of it.
I have no problem with either. One for stacking and the other for melting or just playing around. Silver is silver!
I don't buy that much "NASTY" Silver, though it would be the first kind of Silver that I'd sell. I also don't expend a great deal of effort to keep my Silver or Gold in pristine condition. I find that you can still sell your toned or tarnished and circulated Silver pretty much just as easily as you can your better condition Silver. There is usually some small difference in the price you will be offered, but that difference isn't a great deal and probably not enough for it to actually matter in most cases. The biggest issue is that you don't buy Silver & Gold that you have or will develop an emotional attachment to. When it comes time to sell, you need to be able to let it go without it being a massive gut-punch. For that reason, buying lower cost "NASTY" Silver isn't always a bad idea. You want to buy at least as much Silver that you don't care for as you do Silver that you like. Your nasty ASE looks like the one I carry around in my pocket.
I'm the guy who buys them beat up toners. I love them. They have character. Don't be hating on us who love them. We're a breed of our own.
I always start at the scratch and dent section at my lcs😂
I like the wedge edged eagle too
I love those Perth mint coins. Kookaburra are my favorite.
Remember remember remember, we are stacking SHTF silver, not pretty, not premiums, just valuable hold your price precious metals.
One day I am going to go to St. Helena so I can spend all the silver I have stacked from there. :D
Always loadup on the various Perth products....... kookaburras, koalas, wedge tails and wombats. Great quality and quality control.
Milk spots are still a major problem in Maples... I have multiple tubes of 2023 that are covered
Interresting. Even with the mint-shield tech they still spot? I got rid of all old maples, Phillies and roos. Just keeping the ones that I know don’t spot that easy nowadays.
2:20 I am glad Tim mentioned it. This is interesting.
5:30 I love the look of both.
I specifically look for tarnish and toning
The talents are beautiful!
I would buy up a bunch of those cull eagles. Feels like more junk silver to have.
One ounce of silver is one ounce of silver regardless what condition it's in.Condition only matters to collectors. If you are buying it as a store of value, buy as cheaply as you can. I look at it as a savings account that pays enough interest to actually keep up with inflation.
I love to see how many people are turning into stacking, I am one of the new ones too , good luck to everyone
And to you yankee ! Keep calm and stack more !🇺🇸
I’d buy those “nasty dog eagles” all day long! I always ask my LCS to see his ugly bin and buy it by the penny weight. IMO silver is silver. I only buy for the weight.
Tim is right. EVERYTHING that comes from Australia is nice. The same for New Zealand and the rest of them Down Under. I soooo love old weathered pocket worn coins of any sort. The stories they hold are numerous and I am sure wonderful. They have traveled near and far all over the big blue ball in space eh. This fella is a romantic you would say, , , YUP, I SAY, LOLOL I call it snow toning and if you keep them dry there is no milk spots.
I've got several tubes of the 1oz Morgan rounds and the 1.25oz rounds.
I need to take a ride up to Tim's shop and ask him if he'll let me organize his messy shop for him 😅
Hey Yankee I bought a couple of eagles just like that one. Took them home and cleaned them with baking soda and boiling water and they look brand new. Give it a try.
british silver is beyond beutiful. that Guiana is so sharp
It would be interesting to know what the "battered" American Silver Eagle weighs ? If it's still close to 1 Troy ounce, it is still worth melt at least.
LOVE THOSE TALENTS.... gave all mine away just got two new tubes... plan on giving copper rounds away going forward...😂
Early on in my stacking I got burned with some silver maples that developed, milk spots and when it was time to sell I took a hit on the price I got due to their condition. Since then I have learned to only buy silver in forms of product that are much less subject to price fluctuation based on condition. Bars and circulated 90% constitutional coins both fit that bill for me. Relative to the going price, simple things like bars are more price stable on both ends, buying and selling. You may get a little less for a bar when you sell, but you also paid a similar percentage less when you bought it, so it all comes out even in the end, and you avoided the risk of lost value due to degraded condition from some unexpected circumstance (flood, smoke, air exposure, milk spots, etc.). Likewise with the 90%, the beat up highly circulated condition is already factored into whatever the going price might be both when you buy and when you sell.
If you want something pretty to enjoy for it's beauty (like that Australian Eagle) then by all means go for it. Just remember that the beauty of that fancy coin will come with the additional risk that unforeseen events can possibly cause the coin's condition to degrade, and thus reduce the resale value down to something less than the extra premium you initially paid for it as a nice bright shiny object.
You should see our Wedge Tailed Eagles in real life.. they are huge.
I have a bunch that fly around my property.. crusing on the thermal updraughts..
The stairs are straight up a mountain .
i love the look of both. I stack for pure weight so it wouldn't matter to me.
I love the Aussie stuff, though it is a few pennies more expensive than a Philharmonic, usually.
One oz bars and rounds, but mostly scrap silver. American and Canadian, especially Canadian silver dollars!, they are so cool to hols a fistful of them!
Can you ask Tim what the story is with that king tut image behind him? That’s been there as long as I can remember. At least 20 years.
Silver is silver.
😂
Nope.
Exactly 1 troy ounce of .9999 is the same as another irrespective of design.
I'll buy the discounted, dirty eagles/buffalos!
Hopefully ya’ll scored a lil during that last down turn.
Epic prices. 1146 Palladium. 886 Platinum
So much fun
Merry Christmas to you Yankee and Tim and all your viewers.😎
Spot Silver is the best. Dinged, toned, milk spots, cull...
What is the exchange price in Canadian dollars and how much for shipping. Just want a couple?❤😊
I’ve got a ton of Buffalos, a short ton of Maple Leafs and a couple tubes of Eagles. As long as it’s silver, I’m good.
Tim needs a vacay!
He just returned from one😂
You and Tim doing OK? The flooding looks pretty bad.
If it comes from Tim, i'd probably buy it too!
That safe is 2 feet deep. Have Tim grab something from the back.
There is a safe that size but not as old and vintage cool for $500.
Let me know if you need another safe 😂
It takes a special person with the room and means to move a safe that large.
The 1 kilo Lunar 2 tiger gets my vote for the beautiful coin.
I have stacked silver since 2017 but I do not have even one silver round not one American Eagle not one Maple leaf not one panda not one silver bar.
St Helena was the island which Napoleon was imprisoned.
Have a question about if you take silver in that is in a plastic case can you ask to have them removed and your case back? End of the day that wasn’t in the price of the silver and at your expense to purchase a case for another coin.
How much are his ase that are not cull, Are they more than the wedge tailed? That would help gauge
🎉Happy Semiquincentennial Boston Tea Party. Methinks another one is overdue. 😃
I like those Wedged-tail Eagles. I collect them for the look so it’s not boring to stack. They hold their value and premium too more stably than the pure bullion type coins.
I stack the lowest priced silver as a stacker. As a collector, I’m trying to get all the Canadian wildlife.
I'd take the type 1
Yankee, I have a question about buying from Tim. Since he does not have a web presence, I'm asking you. If someone calls to buy an item today, and the price is "X", how does Tim handle market changes between the call to order, and the arrival of the check? The price today, is not likely the same a week from now when a check arrives. Do the ups and downs even out so that the price today is the price or does it adjust to market on payment receipt? Just curious....
I wish you had asked him if the margin changes on new coins vs old coins as the price of silver goes up. In other words if silver were at $100 an ounce, would the new coin be worth $128?
I can't find TALENT rounds anywhere. Anyone know where I can look?
buy the 5oz rhodium bar.
Hey Yankee !! Im blaming it on you ! I was asked what i was writing a check for and i said Yankee made me do it ! I finally called Tim and ordered the last 10 Wedge-tailed Eagles he had on hand ! Wish id had mire time to talk to him but it was close to 6 his time. I couldnt find any of those style Eagles at SD or JM so i checked Perth. They were sold out of 2022 and 2023, so....blamed it on Yankee ! 🤣
