      +cl1cka the difference is Pat asks them how much it is for the system and the game. He says check the systems because sometimes there is a rare game in them.
      He never tries to get them to sell something with out them knowning.

    The year is 2020 - flea markets as a source of video game shopping has dissipated. Resellers ended up being the only visitors to these locations, only to meet other resellers. eBay rules supreme, and it is considered merciful to buy a Super Mario Bros / Duck Hunt cartridge for $30. Even then, you will have to vigorously bid against an art major student who wishes to use these cartridges to make a project of a beaver. Welcome to the future.

    • @jpesicka999
      @jpesicka999 Před 6 lety

      Eissari4 it's the hardcore collector who will suffer. Gamers will pay $30 for a game anyday. Just get over the fact that people who know what they have are trying to inflate the market, but there's alot of ppl who still have games who don't know what they have, those people are at garage sales or they passed away and are having an estate sale.

    • @psycho81212
      @psycho81212 Před 8 lety +3

      +IWALVG I can't believe GB Micros are going for that much now! I consider myself lucky for finding one with a missing faceplate and battery cover as well as a dead battery for $3 last year. Recently found a replacement battery, cover, and custom faceplate: works like a charm!

    • @IWALVG
      @IWALVG Před 8 lety

      *****
      Considering just HOW overpriced retro stuff is now, yes, a complete-in-box Micro for that price IS a steal. Even AFTER the retro fad crashes, a complete GBM for under $50 is still a decent price.

    • @PuglyWont
      @PuglyWont Před 8 lety

      +IWALVG Yeah. I was really surprised by that one. I have one I keep in a coat pocket for video game "emergencies" and want to replace it. Or get one in the opposite color to make solid black or silver...

    I miss the days when majority of the sellers had no clue about what they had, and they priced everything to sell because they didn't want to have to pack it up again. I hardly go to the flea market anymore because it's always the same three resellers who farm the place out right before opening and then mark everything up to ridiculous prices.

    That "$80-$90" power strip the guy said looked like the same one I picked up at Ollie's a few years back for $15.
    And Frank picking up the Stan Lee DVD brought back memories. I went to a yard sale where they had it and a bunch of other pre-Disney/Marvel superhero DVDs. The older lady there said 25 cents a piece. Before I could grab all I wanted, the daughter showed up and said $2 each. So I grabbed the Stan Lee one and one other one.

    I have to say something here regarding the sports cards. The 90's was the decade where the trading card industry boomed with many companies releasing various sets, problem was the mass printing of some sets and cards which in turn made most of them from the decade to have little to no value however companies such as topps and OPC for example it the 90's did include variants/inserts and parallels and sub sets and those cards do have some value. Also, keep into consideration rookie cards. Rookie cards are always sought after, so depending on the year and player there were likely a good assortment of cards in those binders that could've been worth a bit.

    You should make Midtown bar madness with Frank. Drinking beer smoking cigarettes and fighting in the bar. You would make a good tag team with Frank.

    About the worthlessness of 90s sports cards; hopefully our company wasn't responsible for that :).
    Interesting story: Our department store chain (Schottenstein in Columbus OH, where it started, Value City elsewhere) around 1993 or early 94 had gotten a huge surplus of baseball, basketball and football cards through DonRuss and I recall Topps. Our regional manager did a big surplus deal that netted the chain thousands of boxes of these cards, based on the fact that he loved to collect them.
    However, the company priced the boxes of cards way too low (typically $2.99 and 3.99), as well as supplies (a box of 100 9-card binder pages for $4.99), and flooded the market; some of these cards I remember being fairly high value for the time.
    So what happened is that when preliminary sales figures came in, the bean-counters at corporate realized that we had priced them too low, and sought to "rectify" their error by making another one; jacking up the prices of our remaining stock after the market was already flooded. The result was that the market had an overabundance of these cards, making sets virtually worthless and our now-inflated card boxes weren't moving at all.
    Eventually they were market down by half, then when we had a sale on red-tag clearance a guy came in and bought nearly a pallet-full for a dollar a box at our store (the original Schottenstein store, formed in 1916).
    The regional manager was let go over the debacle and he (with another ex-Schott guy) formed A.J. Wright as a direct competitor to Schottenstein/VC. Our stores closed shop in December 2008 after 92 years; theirs closed soon after.
    Key lesson here? Our stores should not have sought to deal with a collector's market.

    I had a similar TMNT action figure case back in the day. I think it is still in my parents attic... probably half melted from the heat. I should get those when I visit next, also should get my CIB Power Ranger zords that I should just sell.

    Ah the Plasm folder... Defiant Comics was so awesome. Shame they only lasted a year. They made some of the best written stories of the time.
