Different artists use defferent kind of motion while shading. But it's only up to you and your skills . If you're getting good results with back & forward direction shading , then it's absolutely fine .

Sir ap jo shading ko flat karne se mana Kiya aur us direction mein shade karne ko bola first layer mein to sir first layer flat karke second layer se us direction par shade karne par koi dikkat hoga kya Mai to aasehi karta hun sir please reply kardena mujhe ye mere liye bahut helpfull hoga
