It's great your mom and you take time to do trips like this. My mom and I started to do vacation trips about six years ago. We call them Mother/daughter trips. She's 78 years old and I'm 57. Never to old to have these times. Our trips included seeing native American cliff dwellings.
I just lost my mother 3 months ago..she was just 3 months shy of 95..We went through our struggles when w were younger but became closer when I was in my 40s ....Mom set a good example of how to live your life right,She was kind and tough,, funny ......and loved life, friends and family.
I love how you unapologetically enjoy being alone. Often when we say we like being alone our loved ones can think it means we don’t appreciate their presence all the time. Being alone is calming and allows you to ground into yourself.
I just returned from escaping the fire smoke further up state. So, the part about coming home and changes in season totally resonates with me. This is another positively beautiful video! Some suggestions for back packing: 1) Bring rain gear 2) Wear a hat 3) Bring extra socks 4) Pack your backpack items in individual zip lock bags. It keeps them dry, and then you can also put away the wet things in a zip lock bag.

Life has hit me pretty hard. I recently moved to a cabin in the north of Sweden from Miami and I learned so much about myself. It was a silent chaos, but it taught me so much about myself. I now post on CZcams about self improvement after surviving the Boston Marathon Bombing and ending up homeless, working the night shift around gang violence and living with PTSD. Long distance hiker here: get some unscented trash compactor bags. Put one in your pack for all your not-waterproof gear, and fold it down so water can't get in. If you have to carry your sleeping bag on the outside, put one of the trash compactor bags inside the sleeping bag stuff sack to protect your sleeping bag. You were quite right not to sleep up at the top of that mountain in wet gear. With some added waterproofing you'd have been all right. Best wishes on future hikes!
In life we never know what way the wind blows. We carry on with what we do making the most of what we have. Yes things go wrong but it makes us stronger and we learn more and cope better by it. Crikey, your vegetables still look amazing. I only manage to grow weeds, especially this time of year. Maybe you could can them or something to preserve them through the winter. Lovely seeing you and your mum taking a hike together, I always cherish times like that.

Fall is never long enough before the winter cold comes in. Excited to see what things you'll be creating this winter as you stay warm and cozy!
Long distance hiker here: get some unscented trash compactor bags. Put one in your pack for all your not-waterproof gear, and fold it down so water can't get in. If you have to carry your sleeping bag on the outside, put one of the trash compactor bags inside the sleeping bag stuff sack to protect your sleeping bag. You were quite right not to sleep up at the top of that mountain in wet gear. With some added waterproofing you'd have been all right. Best wishes on future hikes!
In life we never know what way the wind blows. We carry on with what we do making the most of what we have. Yes things go wrong but it makes us stronger and we learn more and cope better by it.
