I did 30 years and could pass the entrance level requirements at any time in my career save a couple of times I was injured. I even came back from a torn Achilles tendon to still be able to pass with very respectable scores... even at the age of 56.
I felt it is what I owed to the public that I worked for to keep them safe. I'm not the most ambitious guy away from work so if I could do it, the others can, and if they can't,,,,,,, there's a desk or the door!!
We didn't have physical requirements once passing so it was a problem with us as well,,,
They KNOW they will be embarrassed by something or someone all too often. What if the bad guy gets away and hurts someone???? They failed at their job. I'm not saying it can't happen to the most fit guy on the force, it's just less likely.
Oh yeah, I'm 5'8" tall and outran the majority of the officers consistently, even those that were fit AND much taller than me. I didn't like losing. 😊😊

As the owner of a "big truck" this is PRICELESS! I laughed til I cried.
Ikr?! It reminded me of when I 1st got my 4x4 truck (my 1st purchase was step sides for my 5’3” self to be able to get in and out) and went down to the Piggly Wiggly and an older man that went to our church stopped goin in the store when he noticed my truck pulling up. When I parked, I noticed he had been talkin to my granddad. So, I get out and he busts out laughing. I wondering what he’s laughing at and he comes up to me and asks me, “What’s a lil girl like you driving a big truck like that for? I stopped cause I was expecting a big muscled dude to get out of it and wanted to see for myself.” “I told him, “No sir, this is my truck and if you don’t believe me, just ask the man you were just speaking to. That’s my granddaddy.” My granddaddy got the biggest kick out of it and proceeded to go straight to my mom and dad’s and tell them all about it. I had them callin me before I could even finish my shopping. LOL
@@Sassy_Kat we had a Chevy, 38" tires with a 6" lift kit, I'm 5'2 and at that time was 92 Pounds ( oh to be young and thin again..lol ) ... I used to get that same reaction. Wasn't it a blast to see the pure confusion on peoples faces when someone tiny jumped (literally) from behind the wheel? They said I looked like a " little person " driving a limo and asked if I was sitting on a pillow and books..LOL let me tell ya, I could park that thing in a dime though. We spent many days off road mud boggin' ... Muddin' .. 4 wheelin' .. Seeing who could throw the biggest rooster tails, some of the best days of my life. I had no problem hopping in that thing either, although when I got married for some reason hubby drove the truck instead of my mustang, I did have to use a milk crate and he shoved a little. LoL .. to get in the truck in my wedding gown.
My BFF, the first time she went to get in it ripped the whole butt out of her jeans..LOL and we were on the 'main strip' cruisin' THAT was funny .. I think the funniest thing for ME anyway was my 6'3, Skinny Dad who was a Preacher, in his SUIT driving it. I think I know how he felt when I was a 16 yo kid driving alone for the first time ... I kept thinking, Can he drive that thing? Has he ever driven anything big before? Does he know how to turn in that truck? Can he even stay in his lane? What if he drives over a car? I was so relieved when he got home and the truck was fine and of course he was ok and didn't drive over anyone. Although a "friend" asked to borrow it to go to the corner store, where he BACKED OVER THE FRONT END OF A POLICE CAR, got a HUGE ticket, and instead of coming back to the house he took off. So that was fun! Lol oh, the good ole days!

@@Stephanie-kt9vh My truck is a Dodge, as are call my vehicles. It has the same tires and lift as yours and besides the side steps, I had a grill guard put on it. I actually won a local car show with it a couple of months later, that I only entered as a prank. LOL But, since I only had one other truck to compete with and mine was tricked out and it was a girl against guy thing (he was kinda pissed cause he didn’t think the judges would vote for me, a newcomer), I won. LOL Girl, for real, I wouldn’t want to as thin as I was, but at least 30-40 lighter. I’m a Cajun through and through, like my food too much. Back then, I was just more active chasing kids, with all their activities and our outdoor activities (riding horses, 4wheelers, and goin camping and fishing). My medical team says I one of those people that’s just blessed to not show their actual weight, cause I carry my weight evenly. Whatever that means. One even told me (after getting on birth control and puttin on almost 20 lbs, from 98 to 120lbs) that he thought I was still under weight, by just lookin at me. So, he put me on Boost/Ensure drinks. Girl, after reading your reply, I agree with you. We SO could have hung out and been cool with each other. I didn’t allow anyone but my husband to drive my truck and rarely at that. Oh, funny story about my purchase of that truck. I totally embarrassed the dealership Manager in front of his homies (5-6 of them that was hangin out that day). See, we roll up to check it out, me, hubs, and teenage kiddo #3 (we have 4 girls, all 3 yrs apart, only 1 and 3 are bio birthed, 2 and 4 are my deadbeat brother’s). I straight up told hubs, I’m buyin so don’t you try to take over the deal or I walk out and go somewhere else. Try me, if you think I’m not in the mood. He said ok, your money, you get the truck or car you want, we just your sidekicks. (Gotta love him) LOL We go look at the truck and go in to get the keys for him to check under the hood for me. Now, thing about me is I’m ADHD/ADD/OCD with Sensory Sensitivity Disorder and usually just let hubs deal with situations like this. This guy had his homies hangin out and they were kinda loud, something I tend to just step back and observe and not say much. Well then, that day, hubs already had me on it from pushin me to go car shopping (hated shopping for anything back then). So, right off, the dude starts talkin to hubs and completely ignoring me and kiddo. I say to him ok, just give us the keys to go check it out and you can hang with the guys. He’s like yes, Mam, here you go and hands them over. I look over at kiddo and her eyes are buggin (girly knows her momma SO well) and tell her let’s go. When we get outside, she said, “momma, please, just let it go for now.” I told her, Oh, don’t you worry, momma got this. We go check out the truck and it all looks good, so I tell hubs, let’s go test drive it and throw him the keys. We went and it rides good. So, I tell him that I’m gonna get it, but not paying the full price they askin. It was a 99 Dodge Sport 4x4 and they wanted $8595.00. I walk in and the guy went back to discussing the truck with hubs and tellin him all about it, givin him the full pitch. When he finally shut up for a min, I cut in with Only problem with this is your pitching to him, but I’m the one buyin, but not at the set price. His buddies all start chimin in with comments like, oh. Bruh, she got you good. For a lil thing, she got big attitude. At that comment, kiddo decides to speak up with yeah, my uncles call her Hellkat. 🤦🏻♀️They bout went nuts and laughing at their buddy. I told him, I’ll pay you $8000. cash, right now for it. Say the word and I’ll start writin that check. That made them go nuts. He told them to chill. He was tryin to act like he was thinking about it. I said look, I’m not stupid, I know you want to sell it to me, so let’s get this done. I got other things to do. He said ok, deal. I gave hubs my phone and told him to call our ins agent and get this one added to our policy while he got the paperwork done up. We got it all worked out and we headed out. Hubs thought I was gonna let him drive it home. Nope. By this time, I was pretty aggravated with all of them and ready to get home. I told kiddo hop in, we outa here. That’s how I named her Blue Bunny. That bitch would bounce down the interstate with those big tires on those cement streets (most down here are blacktop paved) with the lines across every couple of feet. We got to a lil lift bridge and I tell kiddo, Gimme my phone, time to mess with ya daddy. She was like oh, crap, here we go. I take my phone and call him (he’s behind us) and tell him see the small ass Isuzu in front, let’s try the 4 wheel drive out?! He goes nuts and starts yellin in the phone at me. You better not, you fkn crazy, you just got the damn thing and you gonna go to jail! I got him on speaker, so kiddo yells, Daddy, she’s yankin ya chain! And we bust up laughing. They laugh at me when I check my fluids under the hood, cause I bring out my lil step ladder from my kitchen (shorty with kitchen designed for tall people). That truck is STILL runnin, not as well as it should or could be, cause we just ain’t been puttin no more money into it. But, it gets us where we need to go, since my computer died in my Durango and my big red (2007 Ram 1500, 4x4 heavy duty long bed) needs some work done and has been parked for a couple of months. Our grandsons (19 & 16 next month) have been wanting us to get it fixed for them to use. The 19 yr old backed into my satellite dish and busted the passenger tail light, but thinks I’m gonna let him take it on the road to go back and forth to work (Walmart order filler). I don’t think so. LOL Yeah, I think so too. Hope your weekend is fabulous too.

My uncle had a truck like that. I wear petite pants, short legs. At the house I hitched up my dress, and used the side walk to get in. When I tried getting back into the truck in the shopping center, I couldn't get my leg up high enough, even after pulling my dress up to the top of my thigh. So I took a few steps back and took a running dive onto the bench seat. I made it!! Sat up right, and noticed this white haired elderly man a few cars over laughing his butt off at me. When he noticed me looking at him, he gave me a thumbs up. This truck was high enough up, I could look big rig drivers in the face. They laughed, and gave a thumbs up to this skinny little teenage girl. That was 40 years ago... I couldn't get in that old truck today to save my soul. I'd need a step ladder and a rope to retrieve it.
*Those trucks should have come with running boards to help you get inside.*

Yup, that was my go-to, I become a saw horse by getting on my hands and knees, and allow them to stand on my back! The other is kneel on one knee and keep the other knee up so the femur bone is parallel to the ground, but this is used for lighter female's. I worked in telecom and was out on the job in a work vehicle. An older woman walked up to us and asked for help (her car had broken down). It started to storm as we were talking. I suggested that she sit out the storm in the work truck. She was extremely short and couldn't climb in. I was getting soaked! I finally just grabbed two handfuls of butt and heaved her in😂😂😂. My partner asked me if he really saw me grab an old lady's booty. 😮. Yep I did!😂
