POLICE lie to Uber Driver/Attorney

- In this video, an officer from Wilmington Police Department and a sheriff from the New Hanover Country Sheriffs Department tell me that it's illegal to record the police and they will take me to jail for doing so. What they didn't know at the time, is that I'm a local attorney, and was ready to call them out on their lies.
Watch how the interaction plays out. If you have any question, leave a comment!
That cop said “you’re being a jerk” like being a jerk was illegal.
Sgt. Donut's definition of "jerk" is anyone who refuses his illegal commands.

@Cbeddoe19 Looks like they leaned on the wrong person, ey?
Hey at least they got us this quality inside look into the unprofessionalism of the police force
How am I supposed to feel safe around the police *if they will blatantly lie to my face like this???*
A large part what's going on in this video has to do with police training in the US, and how it is of significantly lower quality than in most other developed countries.
On average, one has to attend 13-16 weeks of training to become a police officer in the US. As a comparison, becoming a police officer in Norway (where I am from) requires you undergo 156 weeks of training and complete a bachelor's degree at the Norwegian Police University College.
Law is a difficult field. I spent five years becoming a lawyer, and there are still hundreds of thousands of questions I would be unable to answer on the spot. I wouldn't expect a police officer with a mere few months, part of which is dedicated to practical training, to know even the basics of applicable laws in his field.
While the police conduct on display in this video does leave something to her desired, I do not think it's fair to put the responsibility strictly on the individuals therein.
If? No, they're trained to do exactly that. A cop can say literally anything, threaten literally anything. The smartest thing you can do in the presence of a police officer asking you questions is call a lawyer.
@@EspedalsNot making up laws does not require any training though.
You can start by being quiet until spoken to and dont antagonize like a brat
No WAY the second officer doubled down on the lie of this "new law" AFTER you said you were an attorney. Are they stupid, or just aggressive as hell?
They’re uneducated American cops.
both
They're ignorant, aggressive, and power-hungry. When you advertise a job that gives you a badge, a gun, power to tell people what to do, and qualified immunity, you're bound to end up with people like that.
Both.
@@-kieran I thought he was charged with four felony counts of promotion and profiting from prostitution? This is disgusting and quite terrifying. 5 officers? And why do they keep questioning him about being an attorney.

ACAB
And this is how the majority of cops behave these days. When I was younger I had plenty of positive, human interactions with cops. They treated me like a human and I treated them the same. Now days, it doesn’t matter how nice you are, you get treated like a bag of dirt.
A good, recent example of this when my road was closed due to construction at the intersection up the street. The cops were pulling people over that bypassed the road closed signs despite them not living on the road or going to anyone’s house on the road. A bit excessive, but whatever. Was 100% a needless money grab from the PD, but I didn’t worry because I lived on the road so I had every right to drive down it. Well, as I was turning through the intersection that was soon to be worked on, there were two cops with someone pulled over. One went jogging back to his truck and pulled a half a donut peeling out to come pull me over. I saw all this in my rear view, so I just pulled over before he even got his lights on. I figured it would be as simple as him running my plates, coming up and saying “oh you live on this section of the road, have a good day” and I’d be on my way. But no. He walked up immediately with a condescending and extremely rude attitude. To make a long story short, I show him my I.D. and after reading the address and running it, he comes back, throws the I.D. in my window and says “you’ll probably get stopped again” and walks away.
After I recovered from my pure shock at his piss poor behavior, I stuck my head out my window as he was walking back to his truck and said “have a nice day” and as he opened his door I said “asshole” as I put my car in gear and pulled away. Saw him stand there for a second trying to find a reason to stop me again because his fragile little ego was hurt.
Thing is, I used to support police, but they’ve lost my support with their all too common power trips, unnecessary stops of simple working people trying to make their way through the day, general harassment, brutality, and murder. Police behave more like a government gang than citizen’s protection these days. They no longer serve the public. It’s sad. Simple accountable policing reform would solve all of this, but there’s so much pushback from all the cops who don’t want to be held accountable that it never changes.
I read a comment elsewhere that cops in the US are trained for less time than many other countries? 13-16 weeks, anyone know if that's true and have thoughts on if that is too short? Sounds like it.

Thank God for dead cops.
Goddamn

“Better not find anything in your car” certainly implies even if it was not the drivers that he would be blamed” certainly changed his toon later but he definitely implied the driver would be help accountable for anything in his car.
It's funny how when the Fat Officer realized the driver was a lawyer, he got out the area real quick, then the other officers start putting on the charm.....I applaud the (Lawyer) for putting the Cops on blast.(LOL)
His shirt LITERALLY has his LAW SCHOOL printed on the front. God save us all.

@@vimos.9996 So your point is that the police should treat him as a lawyer because he has that t-shirt on? That makes no sense.
Instead of saying the classic “my dad’s and attorney!” This man was the actual attorney. 😂
The ultimate reverse Uno. What are you an attorney? Yes, I am.
"I know the law"
"I'm an attorney"

why in the gods name did i read the "you hurt my feelings :(" in uwu language. i must be sick
One of things that annoys me is when the officer says “my friend? You mean the Sargent?”. His rank means nothing to the driver, he can call him whatever the hell he wants too.
I don't even know what words to put together for how I feel. Like he can't be an Uber Driver too?! Like come on. Everybody needs a second hustle. You know how much it cost to go law school. I'm afraid to think of the level this would have escalated to if they were POC. I'm so glad he said "I know my rights." They knew they couldn't pull one over on him. They were beyond being jerks.
“They just recently passed it”
Just a blatant lie jfc
Yeah, we passed a law that overturns what the Supreme Court of the United States ruled years ago.
I feel like he was just kidding.
@@josefkun7466 I got that feeling too. He had that sarcastic smirk on his face.
@@josefkun7466 Then you don't want to see what you just did.
Hmmm should be illegal for a COP to LIE about a MADEUP LAW
Imagine how many people are in jail because officers tell any weird story and the people couldn`t record it
I imagine it a lot, even the percentage of innocent people going to prison in us is really high. According to wikipedia its a whopping 5%. Thats not even including innocent people that got death punishment.
I never get pulled over but want dashcams for inside, front and back now. The police are getting out of control, too gang like with their "thin blue line" of silence and are too militarized.
It's literally called mass incarceration.

the image of the cop who lied about the law that "just passed recently" around 1:55, then remained standing by the driver side of the car until the end of the video - his facial expression and body language would've been my definition of "tripping on power moves" if i were ever to create a dictionary with only images
“You’re being a jerk, while all I’m doing is trying to infringe on your rights. Be civil here” lol

You can just press return to go down a row. A bunch of spaces puts “cop” at the end of the row so it looks weird

Why can’t an attorney be an uber driver? You know how expensive school is... college debt is crazyyy
It is highly unusual for an attorney to be an uber driver. The policeman was right for questioning such a claim.

Kajol S he is probably a public defense attorney
@@tylerb9877 Not true actually. Alot of lawyers are underpaid, especially in the public service area, i.e "the courthouse." He obviously didn't work at a big firm or anything so this made sense. You saying that the claim is reasonable is kinda dumb, and the only reason you'd agree with the cops claim is because either 1. You're ignorant, or 2. The cop is ignorant, and you know it.
I don't think you want to assume the people in blue are all ignorant, so please, correct your knowledge before displaying your ignorance.

You shouldn't say "bring the k9s". This can be interpreted as agreement to being detained for a period longer than is reasonably necessary to perform an investigation and write a citation.
